First Baptist Church of Shallotte, NC
Dominican Republic Summer Missions Trip July 22 – 30—Pray as this team prepares to
serve and share the love of Christ.
July 10th we will be taking up a love offering at both morning worship services. Our goal is $4,000. This will allow us to build a new church in the Dominican Republic again this year. Any questions, please contact Michael Borton, 754-4048.
Making Plans For many of us, summer is a
time to relax, take vacations, enjoy the family, or, perhaps, work that essential second job. But the church doesn’t stop humming in the summer, and, in fact, it can be one of our busiest seasons for ministry. As I write this, we are in the midst of a great Vacation Bible School, and immediately after that, the students and youth leaders will depart for Centrifuge. And then we have mission trips. And then Summer Beach Blast….
And along with the busy-ness of the summer events and activities, summer is the time we start planning for the Fall. The fact is, we are never not planning! Because if we are not proactive, it’s hard to make progress. We find ourselves just reacting to whatever life throws our way. To be a successful church that follows God’s plan, we have to be looking ahead and planning ahead. Of course, we will always accommodate God if He wants to change things. But God is also in the planning, and there is a lot of planning going on at FBCS!
And here’s a little of what I am talking about. As we are looking toward the Fall, I want to let you know of two message series and one ministry that are in the works:
Messages in the works:
“iServe: Knowing Your Shape for Ministry.” The Bible teaches that a biblical, healthy Christian is utilizing his or her spiritual gifts and serving the Lord in the church. But in relation to serving the Lord, Christians tend to fall into two camps: We do nothing, or we do too much. How do we find the balance, and how do we make sure we are serving the Lord as He has called us to do? Starting August 21, this message series will help you learn your “shape” for ministry and be productive for the Lord (without wearing yourself out!).
“Hot Topics.” Have you ever wondered what the Bible says about a hot topic in culture or in life? Now is your chance to have that question answered! Beginning October 16, I will preach a series based on the “hot topics” that you want to hear about. That is, you will provide the topics for this series! We have set up an online form that lets you offer suggestions anonymously. Then I will prayerfully select from your suggestions the “Hot Topics” that we will consider from the Bible during this message series. The form will be open for you August 1-September 4.
Missions in the works:
The Boston Mission Initiative. As you will recall, in early May our Church
Missions Coordinator, Wanda Truesdale, joined a team from Brunswick County on a Vision Tour of the Boston area. The purpose of her participation was to gather information for us as we consider partnering with a new church plant in the Boston area to help them reach their community for Christ. The North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention has targeted that area to plant new churches. We have a few steps to go, but our plan is that on Sunday night, July 17, we will be presenting a proposal for our partnership with a new church that is reaching Boston for Christ! In the meantime, you can get a feel for missions in Boston by joining the team going from Brunswick County on July 22. You can find more information on the table at the back of the Worship Center.
I could keep going. A lot more ministry is on the drawing board! And our established ministries will be clicking along this Fall, too. I hope when you are making plans, you include opportunities to grow in Christ and get involved in the great things happening at FBCS!
See you Sunday!
With love in Christ,
Pastor Bob
Many topics are uncomfortable to discuss, tough to handle, or just raise questions that are hard to answer. But the Word of God allows us to engage them with confidence. What hot topics concern you the most? What issue(s) do you believe need to be addressed?
Beginning in August, you will be able to suggest and submit a topic for Pastor Bob to consider in a sermon series that will begin this Fall.

SBIC Corner
Members of our church aided greatly in the recent USPS community food donation to the SBIC Food Pantry. David May, Walt Cox, and Donald Evans picked up the nearly 5,000lbs of food that was donated. Then a few days later another group from our church aided in sorting the food for distribution; including, Priscilla Evans, Cathie McLean, Chuck Spangler, Ed & Judy Strother, and Donald Evans
