JULY 17, 2016
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JULY 17, 2016
First Reading: Genesis 18:1-10a The Lord appeared to Abraham, who saw three men standing near his tent. Sensing they were messengers, he hurriedly brought them food and water to refresh themselves. Upon leaving, the men told him that they would visit in a year, at which time his childless wife Sarah would have a son.
Second Reading: Colossians 1:24-28 Paul discusses the suffering Christ endured for his Church. He describes his willingness to also endure suffering in Jesus' name. Paul hopes that through his sacrifices, many people will become complete in Jesus.
Gospel: Luke 10:38-42 Jesus was welcomed into the home of a woman named Martha. She complained to Jesus that her sister Mary sat listening to him instead of helping with the tasks of entertaining. Jesus told Martha that her sister had chosen the more important task, and should be allowed to listen.

OUR AUGUST PRIEST NOW NEEDS A CAR FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF AUGUST.
A parishioner has very generously offered the use of a car for the last two weeks of August. It would be great to have someone else step forward with the offer of a car for the first two weeks of the month. The summer replacement priest needs a car in order to get around and to carry out his priestly ministry to our local parish area. This is especially important to cover emergency calls, home visits and wake services. If anyone has a vehicle which you would be good enough to loan to our August replacement priest for the first two weeks of August, it would be a real blessing to the priest and to our parish. Please contact Msgr. Nevin at the parish house in order to discuss this matter further - 845-735-7405. Thank you. _____________________________________________
PLEASE REMEMBER SAINT AEDAN’S OVER THE SUMMER VACATION MONTHS!
We wish you all a safe and restful summer vacation. Please remember to keep up with (or else make up) your weekly contribution commitments. As you can imagine there is no vacation from our weekly or monthly expenses. We heavily rely on our weekly collection income. This might be a good time for some of you to consider paying your contributions via the PARISH PAY PROGRAM. Away and don’t wish to keep track of missing Sunday contributions? Tired of writing checks? Join the ranks of your fellow parishioners who have already joined this great program which, automatically sends us your designated contribution, like clockwork, every week or month.
CONTACT PARISH PAY PROGRAM You may contact the ParishPay support team at 866-727-4741 or else email [email protected]. Also, members are asked to contact the support team whenever their card’s expiration date changes. _____________________________________________ PREP – LATE REGISTRATION CONTINUES
The PREP office is now operating on summer hours. If you find the office closed, please bring your registration form to the parish office. As advertised, registration is on a first come – first served basis.
For information or to obtain forms, please call 735-2036 or email [email protected]. Forms may also be picked up in the Rectory. New registrants must be members of St. Aedan’s Parish. If you are not yet registered, please call 735-7405 and you will helped to do so. Also, adults interested in helping with our program are asked to contact our office by email at [email protected] or call 735-2036. Please leave a message if no one is in. _____________________________________________

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
