Altar Wine and Sanctuary Candle Memorials
Memorializing different appointments in the church
(stained glass, altar, font, etc.) is a beautiful way to
honor the memory of a loved one. A common practice in
many parishes is the memorialization of the perpetual
sanctuary candles over the tabernacle and the altar wine
used at Mass, in much the same way as a Mass intention.
St. Leo is offering these two items as monthly memorials.
The sanctuary candles (all three as one memorial) can be
memorialized for a month for a $25 donation. The altar
wine can be memorialized for a month for a $60 donation.
A notice of the memorial will be printed in the bulletin,
just as the Mass intentions are. For example, “The
sanctuary candles for July have been donated by John Smith in
memory of Mary Smith.” For more information or to arrange
a memorial, please visit the parish office or contact us at
304-229-8945 or [email protected].
The sanctuary candles and altar wine
for the month of July are donated by
Lisa Feeley in memory of Antoinette
Calla.
Fun, Fellowship, and Food: How could it be better?
You! So make sure you are at our Parish Picnic Sunday,
July 16th starting at 1pm. The picnic will be held in our
picnic area behind the Knights of Columbus Hall, assuming
the weather agrees. If the weather is extreme we will
relocate to the parish hall. The meat and drinks will be
provided; we are asking all those who attend to bring a side
dish or dessert. Hope to see everyone there!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
The Board of Directors and Volunteers of New Eve
Ministries extend a sincere THANK YOU to the entire St.
Leo parish family for their extreme generosity to the recent
Knights of Columbus Baby Bottle Campaign. As of July
10th, $2,578.47 has been collected. All money from the
campaign goes directly to the purchasing and maintaining
of the New Eve house as well as providing for the needs of
our residents. A very special thank you to Fr. Alfred for his
support and that of the St. Leo’s Knights of Columbus and
their families for promoting and conducting the baby
bottle campaign.
Still have a bottle? No problem, just drop it off at the office
at your convenience. Even if you cannot donate at this time,
we would greatly appreciate your prayers.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Do you like having fun? Do you like working with young
people? We are looking for adults and high school youth to
help us with our high energy A RADICAL RIDE on the
WINGS OF PRAYER VBS program this year. This is great
program that will be even better because YOU are a part of
it. We are in need of adults to head up our five AWESOME
stations- Games, Crafts, Music, Faith and Snacks. We also
need plenty of adult and youth volunteers to help out in
these groups. The stations have plenty of ideas for each of
our 5 days, and plenty of room for creativity from those who
lead them.
VBS will be held on July 24-28 2017 from 9 am to 12 pm
for children in grades Pre-K to 5th grade. The cost is $10
per child maxing out at $30 per family. Children grades
6-8 are invited to come help out for the week; they need
to register but do not have to pay the fee. No one will be
turned away for lack of funds.
All adults need to have VIRTUS training and a background
check, but these are easy to do. If you can help us out please
call the church office and let us know!

Legion of Mary The founder of the Legion of Mary, Frank
Duff, was inspired by his work with the St. Vincent de Paul
Society and by his study of Our Blessed Mother in St. Louis
Marie de Montfort’s “True Devotion to Mary.” He saw the
great need for the lay apostolate’s spiritual development by
advancing the reign of Christ through Mary. As a result of
his untiring devotion to his mission, the
first praesidium of the Legion of Mary was
established in Dublin, Ireland on Sept. 7,
1921. Throughout his 91 years of life, he
guided world-wide extension of the
Legion. He promoted devotion to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus and consecration to
the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As a lay
observer to the Second Vatican Council he
became even more aware of the
importance of the laity in the Church. Some of his well
known writings are the Handbook of the Legion of Mary
and his pamphlet, “Can We be Saints?” The cause for his
canonization was introduced in 1996. Legionaries say a
special beatification prayer for Frank Duff at the end of
each meeting. If you have any questions or if you would like
to become a member of our praesidium, please contact
Khoat Bui at 304-596-3420.
ATTENTION: ALL YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS (16-30
YEARS OLD)
In preparation for the upcoming Synod of Bishops to be held in
October 2018, the Vatican has asked for our help. The topic of
the Synod is Young People, the Faith, and Vocational
Discernment. Dioceses from around the world have been asked
to provide feedback from youth and young adults on what
impacts their choices about life and faith. They want to hear
from you! There will be a listening session at St. Leo on
Wednesday, July 19th at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. They
want to hear from active Catholics as well as Catholics not
practicing their faith. If you have friends that are not active in a
parish, we encourage you to invite them to participate.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Alan
Carnahan, beloved father of Ralph
Carnahan, who passed away on July 4, 2017.
May our heavenly Father watch over this
family during this difficult time.
