What is the disorder? What does it mean?
Definition: its an unhealthy way to cope with emotional problems.
Anorexia means: “without appetite’’
Associated Featuresthoughts, feekings, behaviors
Four Symptoms characterize anorexia 1: Unable to maintain their normal weight 2:Fear of becoming fat, even if they are
grossly underweight. 3:Distorted perception of the weight or
shape of their body 4: experience amenorrhea the absence of
at least three consecutive menstrual cycle

They over eat and then force themselves get rid of what they just ate
DSM-IV-TR Criteria Refuse to maintain their weight They loose 85% of their weight 1 of every 10 die of starvation
EtiologyWhat are the potential causes of the
disorder?*Childhood obesity*Sexually abused or physically *low self- evaluations-They avoid problems instead of facing
them-they get into a dieting cycle-media images(models)
Prevalance
The prevalence of this disorder is from 0.5 to a high 3.7%
White women tend to have more eating disorders than black women
Eating disorders are more common in females adolescents : between the ages 15-24 years
Treatment
Individual family-based & group therapy No specific medications to treat
anorexia
Hospitalization-control weight gain-address psychological problems such
as depression

They don’t see as an illness No medications but you can work
through it by modifying you behavior
Prognosis
It leads to death in 10% of the cases Weight management may be hard Group therapy can help them Low-self steam
