DEAN’S MESSAGE
Professor R. Sudarshan M.A. (DSE., Delhi), M.Phil.(Oxford) Professor & Dean and Executive Director, Centre for Ethics, Law and Political Economy
Public policy at the Jindal School of Government
and Public Policy is taught as a practice, which will
enable its practitioners to find creative channels for
public deliberation and evidence-based means for
making decisions in the public interest. The ability
to do this is the need of the hour because
increasingly elected representatives are unable to
fully reflect and adequately safeguard the interests
At JSGP public
policy is primarily
focused on people,
recognizing that
technical expertise is
meant to serve the
inserts of people, and
policy decisions
should be made after
due deliberation, with
ample opportunities
of ordinary people.
At JSGP public policy is primarily focused on
people, recognizing that technical expertise is
meant to serve the interests of people, andpolicy
decisions should be made after due deliberation,
with ample opportunities afforded to ordinary
people to shape those policy decisions. WHY STUDY MA PUBLIC POLICY A stepping stone to an exciting career in public life afforded to ordinary
people to shape those
policy decisions.
JSGP public policy professionals are trained to
acquire expertise in different technical disciplines.
Acquiring and being able to apply the knowledge
gleaned from an array of social science disciplines,
as opposed to specialization in only economics,
history, sociology or political science is the
hallmark of public policy practitioners.
The government plays a significant role in ensuring human security and
human development, promoting the common good and upholding the
public interest. The MA Public Policy (MPP) opens doors to the exciting
world of public life. In a challenging and increasingly complex policy
environment, students can learn to solve practical problems and find
solutions conductive to the public good.
JGU is a research intensive University. It has established several research
centres in all its Schools. Each faculty member is affiliated to a research
centre. The University has over 200 full time faculty members and nearly
3500 students. The University has extensive academic networks. It has
collaborative projects with reputed universities, including Oxford,
Cambridge, Cornell, Harvard, Michigan, Indiana and Yale.
Most importantly, JSGP graduates will have the
wherewithal to ensure that the substance of public

implementation, are both in compliance with
ethical norms sustaining the public interest, fully
cognizant of people’s freedoms and dignity.

Jindal School of Government and Public Policy
(JSGP) offers India’s first MA Public Policy
programme. This Masters programme will equip
students to perform effectively in complex policy
environments. It is interdisciplinary in approach
and enables students to address contemporary
political, economic and social issues in a coherent
and comprehensive manner. The Masters
programme imparts a strong training in theory,
covering key literature and debates. Students
develop quantitative and qualitative analytical
skills, receive and exposure to the real world policy
making process, and enhance their managerial
skills. We encourage students to chose courses and
topics which help them to explore their intellectual
curiosity.

provide the students a platform to discuss local,
national and global policy issues with a wider
audience. Right from its beginning, Policy Corner
became a hit among the close knit JSGP community
and also the JGU outside policy circle. It has always
published some very interesting, thought provoking

“ CORE COURSES CAPSTONE PROJECT INITIATIVE
The capstone is an innovation in the curriculum of M A Public Policy programme at JSGP. The allocation of Capstone Project is scheduled in fourth semester (last semester) for a duration of four to six months (subjected to the requirement of the project). The student is expected to work in an organization/ professionally managed institution under the guidance that assigns specific work to him/her, and in which he/she draws on the knowledge gained in the course to present the organization with a solution. The organization evaluates the work and grades the student. This is the ‘capstone’ of the learning process.
JSGP has to build links with various organizations to facilitate our students to undertake the challenge of a capstone. Capstone project was initiated in 2016 and students took projects in following institutions : -
