Public policy at the Jindal School of

Government and Public Policy is taught as

a p ract ice , wh ich w i l l enab le i ts

practitioners to find creative channels for

public deliberation and evidence-based

means for making decisions in the public

interest. The ability to do this is th need of

the hour because in increasingly elected

representatives are unable to fully reflect

and adequately safeguard the interests of

ordinary people.

At JSGP public policy is primarily focused

on people, recognizing that technical

expertise is meant to serve the interests of

people, andpolicy decisions should be

made after due deliberation, with ample

opportunities afforded to ordinary people

to shape those policy decisions.

JSGP public policy professionals are

trained to acquire expertise in different

technical disciplines.

Acquiring and being able to apply the

knowledge gleaned from an array of social

science disciplines, as opposed to

specialization in only economics, history,

sociology or political science is the

hallmark of public policy practitioners.

Most importantly, JSGP graduates will

have the wherewithal to ensure that the

substance of public policies, as well as

processes of their implementation, are

both in compliance with ethical norms

sustaining the public interest, fully

cognizant of people’s freedoms and

dignity.

DEAN’S MESSAGE

among the JSGP students. The main objective of the

policy blog is to provide the students a platform to

discuss local, national and global policy issues with a

wider audience. Right from its beginning, Policy Corner

became a hit among the close knit JSGP community and

also the JGU outside policy circle. It has always

published some very interesting, thought provoking and

relevant content on policy as well social issues which is

being recognised worldwide. Refer for more:

CAPSTONE PROJECT INITIATIVEThe capstone is an innovation in the curriculum of M A

Public Policy programme at JSGP. The allocation of

Capstone Project is scheduled in fourth semester (last

semester) for a duration of four to six months

(subjected to the requirement of the project). The

student is expected to work in an organization/

professionally managed institution under the

guidance that assigns specific work to him/her, and in

which he/she draws on the knowledge gained in the

course to present the organization with a solution. The

organization evaluates the work and grades the

student. This is the ‘capstone’ of the learning process.

JSGP has to build links with various organizations to

facilitate our students to undertake the challenge of a

capstone. Capstone project was initiated in 2016 and

students took projects in following institutions : -

• CUTS International

• Attached with Member of Parliament Mr. Rajeev

Gowda

• Pratham

• Delhi Dialogue Commission

• Deloitte Consulting

• National Human Rights Commission

• National Institute of Panchayat and Rural

Development

CAPSTONE PROJECTThe Capstone project is a student led independent

research project in the chosen field to address a

question or a problem encountered based on need felt

by a partner organization. The project is monitored by

two mentors, one in house faculty mentor and one field

level supervisor/ manager in the organization. The

Capstone project has to be in line with the goals of the

organization; and the project must produce valuable

research work for the organization. The research work

led by student needs to meet minimum required time

and quality standards. The Capstone project topic has

to be draw on the knowledge and skills learnt by

student who must demonstrate its relevance in the

organizational context. The purpose of working on a

Capstone project is for students to apply their

policy analysis skills in a way useful to the

practical needs of the partner organization8
