Adaptive Curriculum (AC) is right in the middle of a two-year study with researchers

and its partners at Arizona State University’s (ASU) Technology Based Learning & Research Center;

it compares middle school students taught using AC with a control group using traditional instruction.

The results so far are great: 95 percent of teachers using AC had students achieving more than a 5 percent gain on post-test assessments over students not using AC.

Additionally, teachers using AC had more students with the highest scores (3 and 4) on the state assessment,

and fewer students failing the assessment. Similar success was seen using the national

assessments, with most classes posting a 5 percent or more post-test gain

over the control group.

Proof of Concept

JP-IK’s initiatives allow the development of a Global Technology Plan to provide countries with broadband connectivity, computer literacy for the population, and computers for different needs: not only for teachers, students and academics, but also for small businesses and entrepreneurs, for example.

JP-inspiring knowledge is taking the first steps in the direction of pilot-projects in the field of Education. The main goal of these programs is to support local communities, Governments, school districts, ONGs and other solidarity institutions in improving the quality and efficiency of education and training services. JP-IK can make a great contribution with any of its solutions - from mgseries students devices to school infrastructure -, but it is always searching for other sponsors that may also want to change the lives of the neediest communities.

The pilot-programs can even start with educational needs, but the supporters shall take them further, entering the Economy and Health fields.

Two good examples of this is Lusaka’s pilot-project in zambia and dilis’ magellan School in timor.

Lusaka’s first state-of-the-art training facility, complete with mgseries classmate computers, is already changing lives in Chaisa’s community. Complete with brand new mgseries Classmate devices, equipped with up-to-date Zambian curriculums, the facility will allow e-learning at all stages, with integrated training programmes for teachers to synchronize materials and interact with students via their laptops.

So, teachers can give a presentation and synchronize their screens with each student. The cutting edge technology at Chaisa Community Resource Centre along the Great North Road, is a first in Zambia.

Installed by Connect Africa in partnership with Intel eLearning Solutions, with support from JP-inspiring knowledge, Zambia’s own iSchool initiative and Microsoft, the computers have been received with much enthusiasm.

magELLan SchooL In dILI:a nEw futurE for tImor

Dili has the first Magellan School in Timor, installed by JP-inspiring knowledge.

An engraved plaque tells the story about the Magellan School and how it was offered to the former Timorese President and Nobel Peace Prize, José Ramos-Horta, by JP-inspiring knowledge in collaboration with Capa, a Portuguese construction company. On its turn, José Ramos-Horta had the opportunity to offer the School to Mother Guilhermina, leader of the Timorese Canossian Sisters and one of the main benefactors in Dili.

Children in the community will have eighty mgseries devices at their disposal, installed in four classrooms. The scholar complex also features a teachers room and a set of changing rooms for students.

During the first year of implementation, the Magellan School will exclusively be used for training Timorese teachers. Educators need to be comfortable while dealing with technology, completely prepared, so they can integrate their students into the new ICTiE learning model.

The scholar complex means a lot for Dili’s community and it is a decisive step closer to the Knowledge Society. JP-inspiring knowledge prides itself on this offer, hoping to be the start of a brighter future for Timor and for the Timorese people.

While the initial cost of computer equipment is often the focus of attention when people consider the TCO associated with 1:1 eLearning solutions where each student has their own mobile device at school, a complete analysis must include many other components. The well-regarded GESCI framework, which grew out of the work of the United Nations ICT Task Force, specifies that TCO includes initial and recurring costs at both thecentral-government and local-school levels.

Intel commissioned Education Impact, a global education and technology consultancy, to assess the TCO of the Intel® Education Solutions (IES)/JP-IK deployment of an assumed figure of 811.000 mgseries student devices in Portugal - known as the “Magellan Project” - using the GESCI framework. This result is part of the effort by Intel® Education Solutions (IES) andJP-inspiring knowledge to draw on its global reach and unparalleled deployment experience to conduct TCO research that helps optimize TCO and confirm the solution’s success at doing so.

The scale of this study, which considers TCO across some 3,389 schools and 16,000 classrooms, includes all elementary grade classrooms in the country. International innovation awards represent a truly significantmilestone for JP-inspiring knowledge.

The development of large-scale educational projects such as the Magellan program in Portugal, the Ceibal Plan in Uruguay, and the

Canaima initiative in Venezuela justify the recognition of the impact of JP-inspiring knowledge in the 21st century Education.

In 2012 alone, JP - IK won two prizes in different parts of the world. First, in London, the prestigious prize “Primary and Pre-School
