Industry Ministry Launches Making Indonesia 4.0

Jokowi Signs Regulation to Facilitate Foreign Workers

The Industry Ministry on Wednesday (4/4) launched the Making Indonesia 4.0 as a roadmap of Indonesia’s stra-tegy in entering the Industry 4.0 era at the Jakarta Conven-tion Center. The launch is part of Indonesia Industrial Sum-mit 2018 inaugurated by Pre-sident Joko Widodo.

Industry Minister Airlang-ga Hartarto said that Indus-try 4.0 needs to be implement-ed immediately to answer the challenges today. “The revi-talization of industrial sector needs to be done so that In-donesia will not be left behind from other countries that are increasingly competitive,” he added.

One strategy to enter the Industry 4.0 era is by boost-ing five manufacturing sectors to strengthen the fundamen-tal structure of Indonesia’s in-dustry. The five sectors are Food and Beverage, Automo-tive, Electronics, Chemical, and Textile.

“With the commitment and active participation of the go-vernment, the private sector and the public through the right partnerships, we are all confident that Industry 4.0 will bring benefits to the na-tion,” Airlangga said.

Agency for Industrial Research and Development (BPPI) Ngakan Timur Antara said the perfor-mance of industrial sector con-tinues to show a significant con-tribution to the national economic development. Based on the Ma-nufacturing Value Added, Indone-sia’s position rose from the 11th in 2015 to the 9th in 2016, surpass-ing the UK and Canada.

Contributing 17.88% to the GDP, the Indonesian manufac-turing is ranked 4th in the world 15 countries whose manufactur-ing contributes to its GDP above 10 percent. “The figure even the highest in ASEAN and it conti-nues to grow,” said Ngakan.

In a limited meeting on March 6, President Jokowi said he still got complaints on how compli-cated the process to get permit for hiring expatriates.

“I am asking to process the permit faster and online in an integrated way between the Mi-nistry of Manpower and Immi-gration under the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights,” said Jokowi. (KPS/TPP)

The president re-emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial economic cooperation and currently we are negotiating the Indonesia-EU CEPA.”

President Jokowi Appreciates HIPMI for Encouraging Young Entrepreneurs to Grow

The government continues to encourage the young entrepre-neurs to grow and develop. In-donesia, according to President Joko Widodo, needs many entre-preneurs to advance the nation-al economy.

“Our country needs entrepre-neurs whose number should in-crease each year. In almost all developed countries, the num-ber of entrepreneurs is above 14 percent of the population. Cur-rently, Indonesia has only 3.01 percent,” said the president af-ter receiving the Executives of Central and Regional Chap-ters of Indonesia Young Entre-preneurs Association (HIPMI) at

the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (4/5).

President Jokowi appreciat-ed the efforts carried out by HIP-MI in encouraging the youth to become entrepreneurs by cam-paigning at the schools, colleg-es, and even Islamic boarding schools (pesantren).

“They have programs of HIP-MI Goes to School, HIPMI Goes to Campus, and HIPMI Goes to Pesantren. I think this effort will encourage the young people to try to build their own business-es,” he said.

In the meeting, HIPMI also conveyed the obstacles faced in the field, especially in the re-

gions. Bahlil Lahadalia, Chair-man of HIPMI Central Execu-tive Board, said HIPMI wanted to participate more in the national development projects set by the government.

“They got complaints from the local young entrepreneurs in the regions for not being in-volved in the government’s big projects. This is what I want to discuss with the ministers of State-Owned Enterprises, Pub-lic Works, and Transportation in order to enlarge the circulation of money in the regions so that the development is really bene-ficial for all,” said the president.

Jokowi added that he would

find out why the local young en-trepreneurs in the regions were not involved in the development projects. He believed it was noth-ing to do with the capability of the entrepreneurs.

“From the meeting with the HIPMI delegate, I believe they have the capability. I will see into it later when meeting with the ministers,” he said.

Accompanying the president during the meeting were Co-ordinating Minister for Econo-mic Affairs Darmin Nasution, State Secretary Pratikno, Cabi-net Secretary Pramono Anung, and Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto. (SETKAB/TPP)

“If there is a prob-lem, please discuss it in an open way with trust to each other be-tween labor unions and employers,” said Hanif when opening the event about Collec-tive Labor Agreement (PKB) titled “Realizing Business Continuity and Welfare of Work-ers by Establishing Collective Labor Agree-ment” at the Holiday Inn Jababeka Cika-rang, Bekasi, on Tues-day (4/17).

The minister fur-ther said both parties should minimize the misunderstandings to succeed the establish-ment of the agreement. He added that with PBK, the rights and obligations of employ-ers and workers will be clearly stated and more than 96% of negotia-tions reached agree-ment.

The government through Fi-nance Minister Sri Mulyani In-drawati keeps enhancing the fiscal incentives to attract more in-vestors in a bid to reach the target of 5.4% economic growth this year.

“To maintain the economic mo-mentum, we focus on rising the investment and export because these two were hit hard when the commodity prices dropped. We have to find a way to make these two engines of economic growth to rise again,” Sri Mulyani told the press in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/28).

She said her office has been simplifying the rules regarding fiscal incentives. “The bottom line is the more investments, the more incentives. The biggest incentive will be given to the investment of

Rp30 trillion and more with free corporate income tax (PPh) up to 20 years.”

According to her, the figures were set after learning from the neighboring countries. “We want to beat what the neighbors have to offer.”

Meanwhile Head of Fiscal Po-licy Department of the Finance Ministry, Suahasil Nazara, ex-plained more detail about the new tax holiday. Starting from an in-vestment of Rp500 billion, it will get an incentive of free corporate income tax up to 5 years. The highest is the investment of Rp30 trillion and more will get free cor-porate income tax up to 20 years, without any conditions.

“The tax holiday is primarily for the upstream industry,” Sua-

hasil said, adding that the go-vernment needs to push the in-vestment since its contribution to the Indonesia’s gross domestic product (GDP) reaches 32%.

Head of Special Unit for Up-stream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Amien Sunar yadi, said he was surprised and pleased with the new incen-tive. This rule according to Amien will attract many new investors of oil and gas upstream industry into Indonesia.

“We are so pleased with this new tax holiday. It will boost the investment in upstream indus-try of oil and gas. The invest-ment last year reached US$9 bil-lion and this year it is expected to rise to US$13 billion,” Amien said. (CNBC/TPP)

Luhut: Indonesia’s Development for Improving Economy and Strengthening Unity

In his speech at Usindo gala dinner on Wednesday (4/18) in Washington, Coordinating Minister for Economy Luhut Pandjaitan explained the eco-nomic progress in Indonesia and the huge opportunity for investment from Sabang to Me-rauke.

“Currently we focus on the infrastructure development to boost the economy and strengthen the unity of Indo-nesian people spreading on 70 thousand islands,” he said.

He added the development is also conducted more in regions outside Java, especially east-ern Indonesia, to reach equal-ity. According to him, based on the ongoing development, in 2019 the economic growth could be expected to reach 6%

and even 7% in 2021. Besides the infrastructure

development, Luhut added, the policy to oblige the raw mate-rials to be processed first be-fore being exported has proven to be quite effective in driving the growth of economy.

Regarding manpower, Mi-nister Luhut said Indonesian manpower still need to be up-skilled further. “The govern-ment will soon focus on the edu cation, especially for train-ing and technology vocational education in the regions out-side Java.”

He added that now remote areas in Indonesia have shown some development progress-es. For example, in the border areas of Kalimantan and Ma-laysia, where public facilities

have been built. The sea toll concept to connect the spread-ing islands has also generated some positive results in econo-my and sea transportation.

The tourism has also be-come priority in the develop-ment by promoting new tourist destinations such as Labuan Bajo, Lake Toba, Mandalika and Banyuwangi as the New

Indonesia has a modern health insurance (KIS) with 193.1 mil-lion members and 92.4 million of them enjoy free healthcare. This amazing achievement is in line with the World Health Organi-zation’s goal to achieve universal health coverage by 2030.

As archipelagic country with 17,504 islands, Indonesia badly needs a good connectivity, from Sumatra in the west to Papua in the east. China’s initiative to re-establish a modern Silk Road by providing investments for infra-structure development, called One Belt One Road policy, can be utilized by Indonesia, says Patrick Mendis, Associate-in-Re-search of the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University.

“Good infrastructures have proven to alleviate the pover-ty and solve trade problems in many countries. How to make the infrastructures into a con-nectivity is important, like what you have in Jababeka in using the roads, railway and ports into a connectivity,” he further says.

According to Mendis, Indone-sia can use the investment mon-ey from China for building roads, airports, seaports, railways and other connectivity necessities. “However, be careful, don’t trap into a massive debt like Sri Lan-ka.”

After going through more than 25 years of civil wars, Sri Lanka was desperate to rebuild the country, but nobody would help except China who support-ed it diplomatically and finan-cially. China invested heavily in airport, harbor, sport stadium, conference hall and roads. “Un-fortunately, they are not used properly so the facilities are be-ing called the emptiest in the world,” says Mendis.

The minis-ter held five bilateral meet-ings on Wednesday (4/11) with a vice minister of Soma-lia, a vice minister of Gha-na, Ugandan ambassador to Indonesia, head of Nigeria’s investment institution, and CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.

“The Indonesian govern-ment welcomes the develop-ment of economic relations between Indonesia and Af-rica, which is marked by an increase in the trade volume with some countries,” said Minister Retno.

With Somalia, the bilate-ral trade volume increased by 30% every year, even in 2017 the rise reached 80% com-pared to 2016. With Uganda, the increase reached 55% in 2017. Indonesia’s trade vo-lume with African countries still has the potential to in-crease further due to the high economic growth. “Es-pecially with Ghana, be-cause the country’s econom-ic growth is 7.9%,” Retno added.

Panimbang (WSP) has target-ed the land acquisition for the construction of 83.7 kilometers Serang-Panimbang toll road will be completed in June 2018.

WSP President Director En-tus Asnawi said currently 35% of the land needed for the Se-rang-Cileles segment has been acquired. The process of ap-praisal and payment continues to be accelerated.

PT Sentramitra Dayautama

to Expand by Building

Another Factory in Jababeka

The growing business and increasing demand for energy has encouraged PT Sentramitra Dayautama (SMDU) to build an-other production plant with the target to be operational in the next 3 years. Jababeka is chosen by SMDU as the location of the plant because the company sees the big potential market in the Jababeka and Cikarang area.

SMDU has picked a 6,300-hectare of land in the Ja-babeka Industrial Estate 8 for building the factory. This expan-sion is to anticipate the compa-

ny’s business which keep grow-ing healthily. Currently SMDU already has a manufacturing plant in the Jababeka Industri-al Estate 3

“Before starting the construc-tion, we will study the similar factories in the world first to get the best design for our plant, from the production to the pack-aging processes,” said SMDU Di-rector Tjandra Widjaya, during a media gathering at Menara Ba-tavia, Jakarta (4/9).

“This year we plan to visit a factory in Italy, for lithium pack-

aging as we plan to use lithium for the forklift batteries,” he add-ed.

Regarding the plant of SMDU in Jababeka 3 today, it is cur-rently working on Deep Cycle products. As for the dry battery products, SMDU uses the trad-ing system because the Deep Cy-cle battery products cannot be packaged in Indonesia.

“In Jababeka 3 we have ser-vices, battery accessories and back to back rental,” Tjandra said.

According to him, SMDU is

trying to expand its market to eastern Indonesia by cooperat-ing with the local companies. Such a cooperation has been started in Makassar, South Su-lawesi.

“If we want our business to grow bigger, of course we have to partner with the local entre-preneurs. We also want to con-nect with the government proj-ects in power plant and port for ins talling a charging station system, as our business focuses on the battery technology,” Tjan-dra said. The company was found-ed by Victor Chua, who previ-ously was the Vice President of Gobi Ventures, and Dar-ren Chua who was previously working for IE Singapore.

To the presidentpost.id, Victor said he wants to help digitalize the traditional businesses. “We are looking for a company with a great potential, not necessarily a unicorn like Go-Jek but it has to be a good one and that we think it will have a big im-pact to the economy; in creat-ing jobs and opportunities to other businesses.”

Victor added that what dif-ferentiates Vynn Capital from others is the company’s focus on the traditional business-es to brings them to the new

economy or digital era. “We are also looking for industries that are ready to adopt our technol-ogy, and at the same time they can improve their skills and in-sights with our investors who certainly have experiences in the field.”

SynergyThe word synergy becomes

one of Vynn Capital’s advantag-es as it seeks to create synergy among the startups as well as between the startups and the in-vestors.

“So, there will be an interest between the two parties, where the startups can learn from in-vestors and the investors can also learn from the startups on how to run a business in a new way,” Victor said.

Vynn Capital Aims to Help

Digitalize Traditional Businesses

Every year, the Bappeda West Java as the CSR Facilitation Team held the event to give ap-preciation to the CSR Partners of the province for their caring to the environment.

Interestingly, 18 award-win-ning companies are located in the Jababeka Industrial Es-tate, namely PT Menara Terus Makmur (MTM), PT Air Prod-ucts Indonesia, PT Bekasi Pow-er, PT Katsushiro Indonesia, PT L’Oreal Manufacturing Indone-sia, PT Mane Indonesia, PT Mat-tel Indonesia , PT MMC Metal Fabrication, PT Nippon Indo-sari Corpindo Tbk, PT Nippon Steel and Sumikin Material In-

Vynn Capital has been tar-geting 5 industries namely trav-el, property, FMCG, female eco-nomics (cosmetics, skincare and women life cycle related prod-ucts) and logistics or enabler (fintech).

“We want startups from dif-ferent industries to collaborate mutually and be supportive to each other. We also want inves-tors to do the same (specialists of various industries but willing to exchange experiences),” said Victor.

Currently Vynn Capital has three advisors, pioneer in the advertising industry in Malaysia Tan Sri Vincent Lee, Chairman of Jababeka Group in Indonesia S.D. Darmono and CEO of Pa-cific Travel Association (PATA) in Thailand Dr. Mario Hardy. (TPP)

The number of participants who joined the CSR communica-tion forums increased as well.”

Aris mentioned the impor-tance of the support of tenants in accordance with their respec-tive expertise to be able to run the CSR programs sustainably.

“Astra Zeneca, for example, has expertise in education; Dexa

Medica in health, Mattel in ed-ucation also, ICI Paints in cre-ativity, Mane in social, Showa in safety riding and so on,” he said, adding that this year the CSR activities will be focused on maximizing the waste process-ing, while last year the focus was on the mangrove planting.

“Every year we also have an Ecoweek program, a one-week event together with tenants to give back in an environmentally friendly corridor to the commu-nities both inside and outside the estate. Hopefully next year we can hold the Ecoweek event on the Earth Day in May,” Aris concluded. (EVA/TPP)

Shinta added, “We need fo-reign direct investment in Indo-nesia by cooperating with other countries, including Taiwan.”

According to her, the Indone-sian government has seriously been working on the investment climate to make it more condu-cive. This is evidenced by the re-

visions of regulations and the is-suance of policy packages that support the foreign direct invest-ment and cooperation.

Currently Taiwan is imple-menting a strategic policy on economy and trade called the New Southbound Policy to in-crease its roles in the develop-ment of countries in ASEAN and South Asia. BIT Holds Fun Rally of Car Clubs to Liven Up Launching of Monaco Townhouse Jababeka

Jababeka Residence has launched its newest property product, Monaco Townhouse. PT Gra-habuana Cikarang, the managing company of Jababeka Residence, held the launching event followed by picking the unit at the Hollywood Junction, Cikarang, Bekasi, on Sunday (4/7).

Monaco Townhouse is part of the newest area in Jababeka Residence called Sport City, a 21-hec-tare residential and commercial superblock with a green landscape and well-equipped sports fa-ci-lities. The Sport City is just 15 minutes from the Commuter Line KRL Cikarang Station and 30 minutes to Jakarta through the elevated toll road which will be operational in 2019.

The event was also enlivened by the atten-dance of members of several brand car clubs in Cikarang, such as Mercedes and BMW, who then staged a Fun Rally. The special Fun Rally was or-ganized by the Bekasi Industrial Tourism (BIT).

sports events like in the Sentul circuit as well as the off-road ones.”

EDUCATION

Switzerland Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Yvonne Baumann Gave Commencement Speech in ITB Graduation Ceremony

ITB held Graduation Ceremo-ny for 567 students of Under-graduate Programs from 12 Fa-culties/Schools. Her Excellency Yvonne Baumann, the Switzer-land Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor Leste, was also present to give commence-ment speech before the gradu-ates, parents, and the guests in Sasana Budaya Ganesa.

This was not Baumann’s first time coming to Bandung, but this is the first time she came to ITB. She was pleased to be able to visit Bandung again, this time to witness the Gra-duation Ceremony of ITB, whom she thinks have been produc-

ing many good scientists, engi-neers, and business leaders.

According to Baumann, edu-cation plays an important part in our lives. “It is the strong-est thing, because with educa-tion we can change the world,” said Baumann. She uses Ste-phen Hawking, a famous sci-entist who just recently passed away, as an example. With his poor physical condition, Hawk-ing changed the world by doing researches in cosmology.

This proves that with educa-tion, we can create a better world than the previous generation. Nowadays, learning becomes easier with the help of technolo-

gy, such as internet, laptop, and smartphone. Education can be used to solve some problems, es-pecially overcoming hoaxes by mastering technology. “Indone-sia is one of the countries with the best democratic transfor-mation,” said Baumann. Today, the world is more peaceful, all thanks to education. Education changes the world. What ever you do, whatever title you got, that is your strength. “Beauti-ful thing about learning is that anyone can take it from you, be-cause there is always something you can do,” finish Baumann.

H.E. Yvonne Baumann is one of the ambassadors who had the chance to attend ITB’s Gradua-tion Ceremony. Previously, at the ITB’s First Graduation Ceremo-ny in October 2017, the French Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Jean-Charles Ber-thonnet, also gave commence-ment speech for the graduates of ITB. Similarly, the British Ambassador to Indonesia, ASE-AN, and Timor Leste, Moazzam Malik, also gave a speech at the ITB’s Second Graduation Cere-mony in April 2017.

International GraduatesA day before, on Friday,

6/4/2018, ITB also held a Gra-duation Ceremony for Postgra-duate Students. There are two international students who are graduating amongst the 867 students of Master Programs and Doctor Programs. “There

and approximately 400 stu-dents and lecturers came to the event.

Kazuo Sunaga talked about the history of Japan-ASEAN relationship and also Japan’s diplomacy toward ASEAN. Japan-ASEAN Ministerial Con-ference on Synthetic Rubber in 1977 marks the start of the co-operative relationship between both parties. Since then, Japan keeps maintaining cooperation with ASEAN in various aspects including building ASEAN Plus Three and the establishment of

the Mission of Japan to ASEAN.According to Kazuo, there

are five principles of Japan’s ASEAN democracy which are:

Protect and promote univer-sal values, ensure a free and open seas cooperation with ASEAN member states, pro-mote trade and investment, protect and nurture Asia’s diverse cultural heritages and traditions, and promote exchanges among the young generations.

Many ASEAN students come to Japan to study. Ka-zuo stated that Vietnam has the highest number of stu-dents in Japan among other ASEAN countries followed by Thailand.

“Japanese government is very welcome for more stu-dents from Indonesia,” said Kazuo.

Furthermore, S.D Dar-mono stated his view on Indonesian education. He hopes that many Indone-sian students come to Ja-pan to study, especially en-gineering field. He sees that if Indonesia wish to be a key player in ASEAN, Indonesia will need engineers to build the country.

“Indonesia is 12 times larger by size than Japan, yet the difference in indus-try and technology is very high. We need to build the country by developing tech-nology and industry, that is why students need to start consider Japan as the main destination to study engi-neering and learn Japanese work and study ethic and discipline,” said S.D Darmo-no. of the students at the presti-gious event. “By participating in the event, they can expand their insight, knowledge, expe-rience and networking. One of the internatio-nal graduates is Nakanwagi Orashida from Uganda, who studied Urban and Regional Planning Master Program. “I came here to Indonesia to study in Urban and Regional Planning, and today I gradu-ate. I’m very happy for that,” said Nakanwagi Orashida.

Rashida, her nickname, expresses her gratitude to-wards people she has met in ITB. “ITB is a good univer-sity, especially for my aca-demic experience. I have the chance to meet the best lecturers who are high-ly knowledgeable in my fa-culty. They’re very open, approachable, and we can consult them anytime we want, they would also give us direct feedback. They as-sure us that we fully under-stand what we’re going to do with our research. This time, its International Relations student, Angelo Abil Wijaya, won the conference in Malay-sia, earning the Outstanding Delegate title during the Ma-laysian National Model United Nations, held in Kuala Lum-pur, Malaysia from 30 March to 1 April 2018.

Angelo won the simulation of the First Committee of the General Assembly under the topic Measures to Address Il-licit Trade in Small Arms. He said before the conference, participants were asked to submit position papers con-taining initial position infor-mation of the country that joined the General Assembly.

He added during the con-ference the participants gave statements to the committee like a UN diplomat. They were also asked to submit paper-work and draft resolution. He said he also became sponsors for other delegates as well as document writers.

He said his participation in the event was not only an op-portunity to make UGM proud but also to hone his academic skills. For him, the experience and ability gained from the event became his capital to al-ways develop himself through creative process apart from formal lectures.

According to Christian, the Artificial Tree works by absorb-ing the air and filtering it with a membrane mounted inside the air hose. This membrane will fil-ter out the carbon dioxide (CO2) with other incoming gases. The carbon dioxide will be converted by plasma technology into oxy-gen (O2) to be released out of the system and carbon monoxide (CO) gas which will be stored for subsequent conversion into al-ternative fuels.
