Over 100 Years ExperienceAs the UK’s leading manufacturer and importer of ceramic walland floor tiles, we’ve been advising and supplying homeowners,designers and architects for more than100 years. So you can trustthe quality and design of our products, and be sure to find theperfect tiles for any room or project.

Responsible ManufacturingIn bringing you the best possible range of tiles, we also workextremely hard to respect and protect the environment. Each yearwe recycle 20,000 tonnes of ceramic waste, both from our ownproduction line and from other local potteries. All productmanufactured at our Stoke on Trent base contains at least 20%recycled ceramic materials – a unique process worldwide.

As well as adjusting our practices to reduce energy consumption,save carbon dioxide and reuse water, we also use packaging madefrom 92% recycled material. These and other efforts have seen uslisted in The Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards sinceits formation in 2008, and we currently rank in the top 25.

Wall tiles Some wall tile glazes, particularly the more specialised effects used to create surface features and strong colours, are subject to crazing. This aspect is an inherent characteristic of the glazes and may occur after fixing but will not affect the performance of the tiles. Where round edge and bullnose tiles are used, tile trims are not required.

Non-spacer tiles should be spaced using regularly available spacer pegs. It is recommended that proprietary tile edging trims are used for all external corners and exposed edges.

Floor tiles Slight variation in overall size and shade of floor tiles occurs during the manufacturing process. Where possible, sufficient tiles for the area to be covered should be obtained in one consignment to ensure that a supply of compatible sizes and shades is received.

Floor tiles manufactured by Johnson Tiles are for internal use only and are generally suitable for light commercial and domestic applications, (e.g bathrooms, cloakrooms and en-suites).

Only porcelain floor tiles may be suitable for certain external situations. Please check the suitability before installing any floor tiles in areas subject to frost.

The correct floor tile adhesive and grout suitable for the installation must be used.

Tiles within this brochure have been labelled as wall or floor tiles as a guide only. When considering flooring usage in kitchens, hallways and conservatories, the PEI rating (abrasion resistance) should be taken into account. Tiles with a PEI rating 3 or 4 are suitable.

Glazed floor tiles tend to be more slippery when wet and due care should be taken. Spillages should be cleaned immediately to reduce any risk.

Natural stone borders and mosaics The colour of natural stone borders and mosaics will vary as the product is from naturally occurring material. This should be laid out to assess the degree of colour variation and to achieve an acceptable blend prior to fixing. All natural stone products require sealing with a proprietary stone sealer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Our mosaic sheets can be cut into strips to create a truly unique look, an example of which is shown on page 70.

Grouting and cleaning Care should be taken during installation, particularly when grouting, to avoid scratching the glazed surface. Abrasive cleansers and strong chemicals that may harm the decoration should not be used.

If coloured grouts are used then the manufacturer’s instructions should be carefully followed. A trial area should be grouted before proceeding with the whole tiled area to check whether any staining of the tiles occurs. Scored products are intended to be grouted.

Johnson Tiles accepts no liability for staining or damage to tile surfaces incurred during grouting of the tiles. Generally the use of such grouts is not recommended with satin or matt glazed products.

Tile sizes All sizes given in this brochure are nominal and are quoted as the nearest modular size. All dimensions are in millimetres along with a conversion to the nearest modular size in imperial. For details of actual work sizes please refer to the product details given on the carton.

Quality standards Johnson Tiles manufactures to strict levels of quality control to comply with the requirements of Product Standard BS EN 14411. Important Johnson Tiles cannot accept any liability for wall and floor tiles that have been fixed.

During the course of manufacture of all ceramic tiles some variation in shade or pattern can occur. Before fixing wall or floor tiles, several cartons should be opened and their contents mixed to provide an attractive natural finish, an acceptable colour blend and to observe the direction of patterning.

Nothing in these statements does or will affect the statutory rights of the consumer.

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information given in this brochure. The colours shown on the tile products in this brochure are as accurate as the limitations of the printing processes will allow. Please refer to actual product samples before purchasing.

Natural designs on our ceramic tiles can be intended to replicate natural stone and as a result a random effect in terms of design and shade will be visable.

Our environmental policy Johnson Tiles has a longstanding commitment to environmental management and has had a formal environmental policy since 1994.

Our environmental management system is certified against the ISO14001 standard.

We were the first ceramics company within the whitewares sector to gain certification against this standard in 1998 and have since successfully upgraded our certification to meet the latest requirements of ISO14001:2004.

The company has never been subject to any prosecutions or formal environmental regulatory action for any breaches of environmental legislation.

In 1997 Johnson Tiles were awarded The Queen’s Award for Environmental Achievement for our ceramic waste recycling scheme. To our knowledge Johnson Tiles are still the only manufacturer in the world to operate such a system.

Our recycling scheme uses our own ceramic waste material and that of other local ceramics companies. This scheme, which has been in continuous use since 1997, also enabled Johnson Tiles to win the Manufacturing Industry Achievement Award for Environmentalist of the Year in 1997 and to be listed in The Sunday Times Top 50 Best Green Companies Awards each year since it began in 2008.

Class IFloor coverings in areas that are walked on essentially with soft soledfootwear or bare feet without scratching dirt (for example residentialbathrooms or bedrooms without direct access from the outside).

Class IIFloor coverings in areas that are walked on by soft soled or normalfootwear with, at most, the occasional small amounts of scratchingdirt (for example rooms in living areas of homes but with the exceptionof kitchens, entrances and other rooms which may have a lot of traffic).This does not apply to abnormal footwear; for example hobnailed boots.

Class IIIFloor coverings in areas that, with normal footwear, are walked on moreoften with small amounts of scratching dirt (for example residentialkitchens, halls and corridors).This does not apply to abnormal footwear;for example hobnailed boots.

This classification is valid for the given applications in normalconditions. Consideration should be given to footwear, type of trafficand cleaning methods expected and the floors should be adequatelyprotected against scratching dirt at the entrance to the buildings byinterposing footwear cleaning devices.
