INT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - BATHROOM - DAY 1.

CLOSE ON A WOMAN’S LEG, covered with shaving cream. Surrounded by cascades of water and steam, A HAND holding a shaving razor reaches into frame and slowly, sensuously pulls it along the curves of the calf. “TAKE ME FOR LONGING” by Alison Krauss & Union Station plays softly on the radio in another room.

INT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - SOOKIE’S BEDROOM - LATER - DAY 1.

CLOSE ON A WOMAN’S FOOT, resting on the footboard of a bed. The toes are separated with cotton and half-painted a bright, fire engine red. A HAND reaches into frame and carefully applies a fresh layer of polish to the remaining toes.


CLOSE ON the back of a HEAD, wrapped in a towel. TWO HANDS, now painted with red nail polish, reach up and pull the towel free, releasing the owner’s still-wet hair to cascade down her back. Beads of water drip down her shoulders, and one of the hands reaches up and carefully pulls a comb through the hair.


CLOSE ON CLEAVAGE, covered with a towel. The omnipresent hands reach into frame and pull away the towel, revealing perfectly smooth, tanned skin. Shortly afterwards, the hands fasten a lacy white bra into place. Then they pull a sundress up to cover it.


CLOSE ON TWO LUSCIOUS LIPS, reflected in a mirror. They POUT, and the HAND reaches into frame to slowly apply a bright red lipstick. The mouth SMILES seductively.

PULL BACK TO REVEAL SOOKIE STACKHOUSE, looking sexy and ready for action. She’s hot and she knows it.

EXT. OLD COMPTON PLACE - NIGHT 1.

Sookie slowly saunters up to the grand old house, a small, knowing smile on her face and a certain glint in her eye. She fairly bounces with anticipation.

Sookie walks up the stairs and KNOCKS on the door, the edges of her mouth twitching.

Just then, the door OPENS, and she finally grins.

TRUE BLOOD - "Jealousy Unyielding as the Grave" 1.

But BILL COMPTON does not look nearly as pleased as she does. In fact, he looks mighty pissed off.

Sookie’s smile instantly fades.

SOOKIEWhat’s going on?

Suddenly, JESSICA pokes her head out over Bill’s shoulder. She smiles mischievously at Sookie and waves.

JESSICAHi.

CLOSE ON SOOKIE, as her eyes widen, taking in the hot young vampire.

Then her eyes narrow. She glares at Bill.

SMASH CUT TO:

MAIN TITLES

INT. OLD COMPTON PLACE - STAIRWAY - MOMENTS LATER - NIGHT 1.

Jessica sits on the stairs, analyzing her fingernails. They are painted the exact same shade as Sookie’s.

The tense voices of Sookie and Bill can be heard in the background.

SOOKIE (O.S.)What is she doing here?

BILL (O.S.)I need to watch Jessica for a while.

JESSICAGo ahead - pretend I’m not even here.

She rolls her eyes.

INT. OLD COMPTON PLACE - FOYER - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 1.

Sookie crosses her arms and stares at Bill with some disbelief.

SOOKIEWhy does she need to be “watched”?


BILLShe is still freshly made. I need to keep her out of trouble until she matures enough to go out on her own.

SOOKIEWhy you?

Bill can’t meet her eye.

BILLEric’s orders.

INT. OLD COMPTON PLACE - STAIRWAY - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 1.

ON JESSICA as she reacts with shock. Bill isn’t telling the whole truth. Her mouth forms a wry smile.


Sookie looks at Bill with some disbelief.

SOOKIECan’t he do it himself?

BILLHe finds Jessica to be too...temperamental... She tries his patience.

SOOKIEYou mean she’s a bitch?

JESSICA (O.S.)Hey! I can hear you!

Bill chooses not to respond. Sookie makes an exasperated sound.

SOOKIE (CONT’D)Stupid Eric! He takes advantage of you, you know.

(beat)How long will she have to stay?

BILLProbably several years.

Sookie’s mouth gapes open.


SOOKIEYou’re telling me this girl will be hanging around you for a good two to three years yet? That is definitely NOT okay.

BILLYou have to understand - it takes a while to learn all the rules involved in being a vampire.

Sookie raises an eyebrow.

SOOKIELike what?

BILL(shaking his head)

You don’t want to know.

Sookie watches him for a moment. Bill’s hiding something.

SOOKIEThere’s really nothing you can say to Eric about this?

BILLNot unless we want to let Jessica go off on her own and feed on half the population of northern Louisiana.

Sookie frowns. Bill watches her.

BILL (CONT'D)I do not want this.

He moves closer to her.

BILL (CONT'D)Sookie - I, too, was anticipating our date tonight.

He reaches out to touch her cheek. She softens and closes her eyes. Her arms come uncrossed.

BILL (CONT'D)You truly do look beautiful.

Sookie opens her eyes to look up at Bill.

SOOKIESo she isn’t actually some ex-girlfriend of yours or anything?


This makes Bill laugh. He leans down to kiss Sookie, and she smiles, kissing him back.

A THROAT CLEARS RUDELY in the background.

Sookie breaks free to turn and glare at--

JESSICA, who’s smirking at them from the doorway.

Bill pulls Sookie back close.

BILL (CONT'D)Tomorrow? Your place? Maybe I can get Pam to watch her.

Sookie nods and backs out the open doorway.

EXT. OLD COMPTON PLACE - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 1.

Bill kisses Sookie one more time, and as they break away she glances over his shoulder to see--

JESSICA, who makes a kissy face at her.

JESSICABye bye.

Then, before Sookie can respond, Jessica reaches in front of Bill and pushes the door shut in her face.

ON SOOKIE, as she reacts with surprise.


Bill reacts with anger.

BILLWhat are you doing?!

He moves to open the door, but Jessica stops him.

JESSICAWhy didn’t you tell her the truth?

ON BILL, as a FLASH OF GUILT crosses his face. Then he looks toward the door, sensing Sookie’s distress.

EXT. OLD COMPTON PLACE - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 1.

BACK ON SOOKIE, as her surprise transforms into anger. She obviously heard everything. She turns and storms away.


INT. FELLOWSHIP OF THE SUN CHURCH - SANCTUARY - DAY 2.

CLOSE ON A STAINED GLASS WINDOW, portraying the scene of the Crucifixion. In the scene, a shaft of light falls from heaven onto a repentant sinner, kneeling at the foot of the Cross.

A BEAM OF LIGHT gleams through the window and falls onto the luminous face of JASON STACKHOUSE. He is surrounded by OTHER CONGREGANTS, and they are joyfully singing hymns from their worship hymnals.

CLOSER ON JASON, as he gets distracted by the light shining in his eye. He holds up a hand to shield himself from it. AS HIS EYES WANDER TOWARD THE SOURCE OF THE LIGHT...

HIS POV: Standing beneath the window at the end of the pew is CHRISTY LEE DAWSON (mid-20s), singing heartily along with the congregation. Although dressed conservatively, Christy Lee is anything but virginal. She notices Jason watching her, and coyly looks away. But then, after a moment, she looks back and smiles.

ON JASON, slowly returning the smile. He’s smitten.

INT. FELLOWSHIP OF THE SUN CHURCH - FOYER - LATER - DAY 2.

People are milling about after the sermon, greeting each other with varying degrees of earnestness and self-satisfaction.

REVERSE ANGLE on JASON, searching the crowd, but trying to look nonchalant about it. Suddenly he lights up.

HIS POV: Christy Lee stands alone, waiting near the front doors.

BACK ON JASON as he begins his trek toward his prize.

When she notices him approaching, Christy Lee smiles.

JASONHi.

CHRISTY LEEHi.

JASONI’m Jason Stackhouse.

He holds out his hand, and she shakes it.

CHRISTY LEEChristy Lee.


Jason shifts and clears his throat. He’s not used to hitting on girls in a clean way.

Christy Lee smiles.

CHRISTY LEE (CONT'D)You new here?

JASON(nodding)

Been coming for a few weeks now. How ‘bout you?

CHRISTY LEEOh - I’ve been part of the Fellowship ever since it started.

She gives him her coy smile again.

CHRISTY LEE (CONT'D)So if you need me to show you the ropes, Mr. Stackhouse, I’d be more than willing.

ON JASON, mouth slightly agape. Is she saying what he thinks she’s saying?

Christy Lee smirks.

CHRISTY LEE (CONT'D)Like, maybe tomorrow? Over drinks?

ON JASON, as his eyes begin to shine with joy.

Just then, a HAND clamps down on Jason’s shoulder, and he turns around.

It’s ORRY DAWSON, grinning from ear to ear.

ORRYWhy, hello Jason!

JASONHi, Mr. Dawson.

ORRY(laughs)

Aw, come on! Call me Orry. “Mr. Dawson” makes me feel just too dang old.

Jason smiles carefully.

Orry beams at Christy Lee.


ORRY (CONT'D)(to Jason)

I see you’ve met my lovely daughter.

ON JASON, as he reacts with shock.

CHRISTY LEEYes, Daddy, we were just getting acquainted.

Orry puts his arm around her shoulders, and she holds her cheek up for him to kiss it.

Jason stands up just a tiny bit straighter.

Orry looks back to him. Suddenly his arm around Christy Lee seems like a much more protective gesture than it did a moment ago. He smiles, not unkindly, at Jason.

ORRY(to Christy Lee)

This young man’s the one I told you about, Christy Lee. He’s the one I met while he was in jail.

Christy Lee widens her eyes at Jason.

CHRISTY LEE(sugary sweet)

Gosh! You were the one they thought killed all those nasty fangbangers?

Jason shrugs uncomfortably and she giggles for her father’s benefit. Orry laughs, then looks at Jason’s lapel.

ORRYYou don’t have a pin yet?

JASONPin?

ORRYGoodness gracious - Sarah must be slacking. We usually give a pin as a sort of welcome to the Fellowship.

As he speaks, he removes his FELLOWSHIP OF THE SUN PIN from his own suit jacket.

ORRY (CONT’D)Here - you can have mine. I’ll just grab a new one from the office.


Jason obliges him by putting it on. He glances at Christy Lee.

JASONHow come Christy Lee’s not wearing one?

ORRYOh - she has a promise necklace instead.

He glances at her.

ORRY (CONT’D)Where’s it gone?

CHRISTY LEE(shrugging)

It must’ve fallen off the other night without me noticing it.

Orry gives her a significant look.

ORRYNow why didn’t you tell me, Sweet Pea?

CHRISTY LEEIt didn’t seem important at the time.

She shifts uncomfortably and glances toward Jason, who’s watching them with a confused look on his face.

Orry forces a laugh and waves a hand at her.

ORRYNo problem. I’ll get you a new one too.

She nods and smiles. Time to change the subject.

CHRISTY LEE (CONT’D)Daddy, Mr. Stackhouse and I were thinking of going to get a milkshake together tomorrow.

Orry looks at Jason, who smiles awkwardly.

ORRYIsn’t she just a precious jewel?

JASONYes sir.


ORRY (CONT'D)(to Christy Lee)

Well now, darlin’, what’s the rule?

Christy Lee smiles and sighs in an exaggerated way.

CHRISTY LEEI know, I know: first dates are group dates.

ORRYAnd?

CHRISTY LEEChurch dates are even better.

Orry grins back at Jason.

ORRYI’m sure my Christy Lee will be more than happy to get to know you better at tomorrow’s pre-dawn service first. Milkshakes can come later.

Christy Lee smiles suggestively at Jason, while Orry waits for him to respond.

JASONYes sir, Orry sir.

Orry relaxes slightly and his arm drops from Christy Lee’s shoulders.

ORRYWell then, I guess we’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning.

(to Christy Lee)I’ll just go see Sarah about that necklace now.

He gives Christy Lee another peck on the cheek, then nods at Jason. Jason nods back, and Orry leaves.

After he’s gone, Christy Lee drops the act and steps closer to Jason - closer than is socially acceptable within a church setting.

ANGLE ON JASON as he closes his eyes; he’s trying to be good, but she just smells so damn nice.


CHRISTY LEE (CONT'D)You should know - my Daddy really only likes suitors who are really active in the Fellowship.

She puts a FINGER on his chest and slowly drags it down his chest and stomach, lingering just below his belly button.

CHRISTY LEE (CONT'D)So I suggest you bring a friend or two along tomorrow.

He opens his eyes, perturbed. She laughs.

CHRISTY LEE (CONT'D)(whispering)

Plus they’ll be a good distraction for him while you and I get to know each other better.

She tugs slightly on his belt buckle. Jason swallows hard and nods.

EXT. MERLOTTE’S - DAY 2.

SAM MERLOTTE carries a bag of trash to the dumpster next to the bar. But as he closes the lid, there’s the sound of CRUNCHING GRAVEL, and Sam glances up to see who’s arriving.

HIS POV: MARYANN FORRESTER’S blood-red CONVERTIBLE pulls up to a stop in front of the bar. TARA THORNTON jumps out of the passenger-side door and slams it shut. She waves goodbye as the car pulls away.

BACK ON SAM, as he narrows his eyes and frowns. He walks back inside, avoiding Tara.

INT. MERLOTTE’S - SERVICE ALLEY/KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS - DAY 2.

Sam enters just as SOOKIE walks in from the back, hurriedly tying on her apron.

Sam watches Tara take her place behind the bar, then turns to Sookie.

SAM(sharper than intended)

You’re late. We’re packed.

Sookie glares at him.

SOOKIESorry.


Just as she grabs a pad of paper and a pen, ARLENE FOWLER approaches.

ARLENEWhere have you been? Your section was gettin’ antsy, so I took their orders. And table six wants more water.

Sookie smiles gratefully at her.

SOOKIEThank you, Arlene. That was kind of you.

She grabs a PITCHER of WATER from the bar.

But then, just as she turns back around to bring it to the table, Sookie bumps into--

HOYT FORTENBERRY, and the water SPILLS all down the front of her uniform.

Hoyt steps back in shock.

HOYTI am so sorry, Sookie! I was just on my way to use the facilities, and I didn’t see you there.

HOYT (V.O.)...don’t look at her chest see through her shirt oh God oh God she has such nice--

ON SOOKIE as she shakes her head angrily.

SOOKIEHoyt Fortenberry, you clumsy oaf!

HOYTI’m sorry! I’m sorry!

She glares at him until he just turns back around and skulks out of the bar.

Arlene approaches her carefully.

ARLENESookie? Doll?

Sookie bursts into TEARS. She runs back down the hallway she just came from.

Sam moves to follow her, but Arlene holds a hand up to stop him.


ARLENE (CONT'D)Let me handle this.

She moves to follow Sookie.

INT. MERLOTTE’S - LADIES’ ROOM - MOMENTS LATER - DAY 2.

Sookie stands in front of the sink, blotting at her shirt with a paper towel. Arlene walks in and stands beside her.

ARLENENow what was all that?

Sookie shakes her head.

SOOKIEDon’t worry about it. I was just being stupid.

Arlene gives Sookie a pointed look in the mirror.

ARLENEDoes this have to do with that vampire?

Sookie stiffens and looks away.

SOOKIEIf you mean Bill, my boyfriend, then it is none of your business one way or the other, Arlene Fowler.

Arlene gives her a sharp look.

ARLENELook, I’m trying to help here.

SOOKIEWell, you’re not!

Arlene gives an exasperated sigh and reaches out to push a stray lock of Sookie’s hair behind her ear.

ARLENE (V.O.)...used to be so close don’t understand anymore...

Sookie suddenly becomes ashamed. She takes Arlene’s hand and pats it awkwardly.

SOOKIEBut thank you for trying.


Arlene relaxes.

ARLENEYou can talk to me, you know.

Sookie nods and sighs.

SOOKIEI know, I know.

ARLENEYou wouldn’t believe half the crazy shit I’ve heard in my lifetime. I know more than you think.

Sookie gives her a skeptical look.

ARLENE (CONT’D)I mean, after three husbands and one fiancé, you come to know a lot about men and relationships.

Sookie nods, fighting not to smile. She gives Arlene a hug.

SOOKIEThank you, Arlene. I feel much better.

ARLENEIt‘s okay, Sook.

There’s a KNOCK on the door.

SAM (O.S.)Ladies? We really need you working your tables.

ARLENEBe right there!

(to Sookie)I’ve got an extra shirt in my bag in Sam’s office. You can borrow it for today.

Sookie nods. Arlene hesitates.

ARLENE (CONT’D)And Sookie?

SOOKIEHmm?


ARLENEI know you don’t wanna hear it, but... have you ever thought that maybe vampires and humans really aren’t meant to mix? I mean - there just seems to be a lot of drama between you and Bill all the time...

SOOKIEHe’s the only man I’ve ever met who just accepts me the way I am, Arlene.

Arlene backs away and opens the ladies’ room door.

ARLENE‘Kay. Forget it. I just worry about you.

Sookie finds Arlene’s eyes in the mirror and forces a smile. Arlene smiles back, then steps out the door.

ARLENE(yelling)

Coming Sam!

ON SOOKIE’S REFLECTION as she watches the door swing shut. She stares herself in the eye for a moment, then suddenly throws away her paper towel in frustration.

INT. MERLOTTE’S - SAM’S OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER - DAY 2.

Sookie enters the empty room and closes the door. Then, going directly for the CUBBY where the waitresses keep their things, she finds ARLENE’S BAG. Sure enough, there’s a WHITE MERLOTTE’S T-SHIRT inside.

She stops and gives a quick glance around. She listens for a second. No one’s coming. In a flash, she PULLS OFF her wet T-shirt, standing in just a bra for a moment. Then she quickly PUTS ON the dry shirt and tucks it into her shorts.

Smiling in a self-satisfied sort of way, she hangs the wet T-shirt over the edge of her shelf to dry.

Just then, the door OPENS and she jumps. It’s Sam.

SAMHey Sook - you alright?

Sookie turns and smiles at him. She nods.


SOOKIEJust fine, thank you. Sorry about that little scene earlier.

SAMNo problem. Hoyt’s used to women yelling at him.

Sookie laughs. Sam notices the wet T-shirt and gives her a funny look.

SAM (CONT’D)Did you just change in here?

Sookie raises an eyebrow and Sam blushes. She moves toward the door where he’s standing, as if to leave, but then stops.

SOOKIESam?

SAMYeah?

SOOKIEHave you ever had someone you loved lie to you?

Sam looks at her carefully.

SAMWhat do you mean?

SOOKIEJust, have you ever known that someone wasn’t telling you something, but didn’t know how to get them to tell it to you?

Sam becomes angry.

SAMWhat has Bill done to you?

She turns beet red.

SOOKIENothing!

(beat)Answer my question.

Sam crosses his arms.


SAMSookie, someone who really loves you would tell you the truth. No matter what.

Sookie looks away, crestfallen. After a moment, Sam finally sighs.

SAM (CONT’D)But if you really love him, you also have to trust him. Give him time.

Sookie turns back to him, her face full of hope.

SOOKIEYou think so?

SAM(nodding)

He probably wants to tell you, but just hasn’t found the right words for it yet.

Sookie gives him a big hug. ON SAM, as he closes his eyes wistfully. Sookie pulls away and smiles.

SOOKIEThanks. Now, you gonna let me through? So I can get to work?

Sam realizes he’s blocking the door and moves out of the way.

SAM(quietly)

Oh - sure. But Sook? Please don’t use my office as a change room anymore, okay?

Sookie laughs and moves past him. Sam SIGHS after her longingly.

INT. MERLOTTE’S - DINING ROOM - LATER - DAY 2.

The crowd has died down a bit, but is still good enough. JASON walks in the door and gives a glance around the room, a determined look on his face.

HIS POV: TERRY BELLEFLEUR stands near the bar, unloading clean glasses he just washed. TARA is busy nearby.

BACK ON JASON as he puts on a salesman’s smile and moves toward the bar.


INT. MERLOTTE’S - BAR - CONTINUOUS - DAY 2.

ON TERRY as he looks up with surprise.

Jason stands in front of him, undaunted.

JASONHey Terry!

He reaches out to shake Terry’s hand, but Terry just furrows his brow and doesn’t reciprocate. After a moment, Jason just awkwardly pulls his hand back.

JASON (CONT’D)What’s up?

TERRYJust working.

Jason nods like that’s fascinating.

JASONHow’ve you been?

TERRYOkay.

He stares at Jason, getting a little suspicious.

TERRY (CONT’D)Why?

JASONOh, nothing, nothing.

Terry relaxes and gives him a bashful smile.

TERRYOkay then. Sorry.

He returns to putting away the clean glasses.

JASONHey Terry?

TERRYHuh?

JASONYou go to church?

TERRYYeah. With my Mama. First Baptist every Sunday.


Jason nods again, searching for words.

JASONSo how would you feel about going to a pre-dawn church service with me tomorrow morning?

Terry looks at Jason like he’s the crazy one.

TERRYMe?

JASON (CONT’D)Yeah - of course you. We’re buddies right?

Terry shrugs.

TERRYSure.

Jason forces a big grin.

JASON (CONT’D)So yeah, the Fellowship’s having a special service, and they want us to bring our friends...

Terry puts down his glasses and stands up to his full height.

TERRYOh. Well. No, thank you, Jason. I am not interested in attending your meeting.

JASONHow come?

TERRYI like Bill Compton.

JASONSo?

TERRYThat Fellowship of the Sun there - well, they preach that vampires are creatures of darkness. But I think Bill Compton’s a nice fella. He understands what it’s like to be a vet.


ON JASON, as he reacts with shock: these are more words than he has ever heard Terry Bellefleur say at once. He’s astounded.

TERRY (CONT’D)(coldly)

So, thank you kindly for your invitation, but I respectfully decline.

Jason just nods dumbly as Terry walks away.

Suddenly, there’s a BURST OF LAUGHTER, and Jason looks over to see--

HIS POV: TARA. Laughing. At him.

BACK ON JASON, now offended.

JASONWhat?

Tara shakes her head.

TARA(still laughing)

That’s probably the most hilarious thing I have ever seen.

Jason narrows his eyes at her.

TARA (CONT’D)The way Terry “respectfully declined!” You should’ve seen your face!

JASONSo?

Tara calms down. She can tell Jason’s hurt.

TARA(gentler now)

You went about it all wrong, is all. What you did was basically jump out of the bushes at a paranoid war veteran. No wonder he bit your head off.

JASONWhat do you mean?

Tara sighs and rolls her eyes.


TARAListen: Terry’s a quiet guy who doesn’t appreciate any sort of surprises. He’s too paranoid. You can’t just burst out with stuff around him - it makes him uneasy.

JASON(haughtily)

I’ve known Terry Bellefleur all my life, Tara. I think I know how to talk to him.

Tara shakes her head. Sam stands behind her, quietly listening now.

TARASee - no you don’t. You just think you do. I’ve learned from Maryann that there’s a difference between talking at someone and communicating with them.

She gives him a pointed look.

TARA (CONT’D)What you just did was talk at Terry. And it sure as hell didn’t work, did it?

Jason finally sighs and shakes his head.

TARA (CONT’D)Maryann says you need to consider the other person in your conversation first, and try to determine what it is that they need to hear - rather than just what you want to say. That way, communication will be much more fulfilling for the both of you.

Jason nods, a light dawning over his face.

Just then, Sam grabs Tara’s arm, and she jumps with surprise.

SAM(quietly)

Can I speak to you in my office? Now.

She doesn’t really have the chance to respond before Sam pulls her out of the room.


INT. MERLOTTE’S - SAM’S OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER - DAY 2.

Tara walks in ahead of Sam then turns back to face him, her hands on her hips, as he closes the door.

TARAWhat?

SAMI don’t really appreciate you giving tips on proselytizing to my customers.

Tara bursts out laughing.

TARAYou mean what I said to Jason? I mean, sure, it’ll help him with that, I guess - but it’s just good advice in general, I thought.

Sam shrugs.

TARA (CONT’D)Something else?

This is hard for Sam. He can’t look at her.

SAMWould you please stop quoting Maryann all the time?

TARA(laughs)

Why? You jealous?

SAMShe’s not a good person, Tara.

Tara’s jaw hardens.

TARAWhat the hell are you talking about?

SAMI just hate to hear you worshipping her so much when I know there’s a side of her you’ve yet to see that you’re not gonna like.


TARAHow the hell do you know? The two of you only just met a couple weeks ago.

Sam finally looks at her.

SAMNo. We’ve met before.

Tara’s eyes widen.

TARA (CONT’D)No. Nuh-uh. You’re lying.

SAMNo. I’m finally telling you the truth.

And she walks out the door, slamming it behind her.

INT. MERLOTTE’S - BAR - MOMENTS LATER - DAY 2.

Jason sits at the bar, nursing his beer. He slowly turns and scans the room.

HIS POV: A few random, MIDDLE-AGED COUPLES sit in different booths, preoccupied with their food.


BACK ON JASON, as he wrinkles his nose with distaste.

But just then, we hear the door open, and the sunlight flashes on Jason’s face as he looks up to see who came in.

HIS POV: HOYT stands silhouetted in the doorway, peering around to make sure Sookie’s gone.

BACK ON JASON as he grins with delight.

INT. MERLOTTE’S - DINING ROOM - LATER - DAY 2.

Jason now sits at a table across from Hoyt. He’s laying on the charm as thick as he possibly can, and Hoyt’s eating it up almost as hungrily as he’s eating his cheeseburger.

JASONYou just seem like you’re looking for some sort of direction, you know? And I think the Fellowship could help you find it.

Hoyt smiles. Usually he and Jason don’t talk about him - he likes this change.

HOYTI have been sort of searching for a purpose lately. I don’t wanna do construction forever, after all.

Jason beams.

JASONWell there you go! Maybe that’s God calling you.

(re: Hoyt’s empty glass)You want another?

He signals the WAITRESS for two more beers.

HOYTYeah! Maybe you’re right...

(he thinks, then nods)Okay. I’ll come.

Jason grins.

JASONGreat! I’ll pick you up at four-thirty so we can get a good seat.

ON HOYT, as his smile falters a bit at the mention of that ungodly hour.


HOYTIn the morning?

But his hero’s smiling at him, so he nods.

HOYT (CONT’D)Sounds good.

Jason grins and sighs contentedly. Hoyt grins back as the waitress sets their beers in front of them.

EXT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - NIGHT 2.

Sookie’s beat-up old car sits in front of the house.

INT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT 2.

Candles are everywhere. Various bottles of lotion and massage oil sit on the table, ready to be used. A pile of fresh, clean towels sits nearby, folded and waiting. “TILL I GET IT RIGHT” by John Doe & The Sadies plays gently on the iPod dock.

THE DOORBELL RINGS.

INT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - FOYER - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 2.

Sookie, dressed in nothing but a short, satin robe, runs to the door and pulls it open, a smile on her face.

But, again, Bill stands at the door and does not look happy.

BILLI am so sorry.

SOOKIEWhat?

Just then, both Jessica and ERIC NORTHMAN appear behind Bill. Eric looks at Sookie appreciatively, while Jessica shakes her head smugly.

ERICMiss Stackhouse. You’re looking quite delectable this evening.

ON ERIC, as he smiles, a tiny bit of FANG showing.

ON SOOKIE, as she pulls her robe tighter around herself.

SOOKIEWhat the hell is going on?!


When no one answers, she makes an exasperated noise and stalks away from the door. Bill quickly follows her. Jessica and Eric are left standing at the threshold, unable to enter since they haven’t been invited in.

INT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - LIVING ROOM - CONT. - NIGHT 2.

Sookie starts picking up the bottles of lotion and massage oils.

Bill stops and looks around.

BILLOh. My. You had everything planned.

Sookie turns and throws a bottle at him, which he catches with lightning speed.

SOOKIENot that you deserved it.

He moves to her, quick as a flash, and takes her in his arms.

BILL (CONT’D)Sookie, I’m sorry. There’s nothing I can do.

JESSICA (O.S.)Bi-ill! I’m bo-ored!

ERIC (O.S.)Can’t you just stop whining for even ONE hour?

Sookie pulls away from Bill.

SOOKIEJust tell me the truth - what is going on?

Bill makes a frustrated noise.

BILLIt’s not my place.

Sookie sighs and pushes him away.

INT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - FOYER - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 2.

Sookie walks to the door to open it.


SOOKIEFine. You can come in. But any funny business, and I’ll totally rescind my invitation.

But they’ve already found their way to the living room.

INT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - LIVING ROOM - LATER - NIGHT 2.

All the massage paraphernalia has disappeared, although the candles still remain in place. Sookie has changed into jeans and a T-shirt, and now sits on the sofa, facing Eric, who stands in front of her. Meanwhile, Jessica stands behind him, while Bill sits in an armchair, watching carefully.

SOOKIESo what’s going on?

Now comes the part Eric hates.

ERICI need your help.

This is hilarious to Jessica, who has to cover her mouth to keep from guffawing too loudly.

ON SOOKIE, as her eyebrows rise.

ERIC (CONT’D)Pam’s missing.

SOOKIE(gasps)

Since when?

ERIC (CONT’D)A few nights ago. But I wasn’t sure until tonight.

JESSICAHe had to be sure before he could come to a human for help.

Both Bill and Eric glare at her.

SOOKIESo...how am I supposed to help?

ERICBy using your ability to see if any of Fangtasia’s staff or patrons know where she’s gone.


SOOKIEBut I’m supposed to work tomorrow.

Jessica laughs. Eric gets annoyed.

ERICWhat does that matter? I require your services.

Sookie stands.

SOOKIEIt matters because I can’t afford to take time off work.

Bill stands and approaches Eric. Jessica inches closer to the other vampires, trying to be included.

BILLHave we exhausted every other way of finding her?

Eric ignores him and looks directly at Sookie.

ERICI will pay you.

Sookie looks at him, incredulous. Jessica reacts in pretty much the same way.

SOOKIEYeah, right.

ERICI will pay you well.

ON SOOKIE: she’s tempted. She glances at Bill.

Jessica stands next to him. She makes a face at Sookie and edges closer to Bill.

BACK ON SOOKIE as she narrows her eyes. She steps closer to Eric and smiles coyly.

SOOKIEAlright. I’ll do it. But only if you also agree to find someone else to baby-sit Jessica after this.

JESSICAEXCUSE me?


ERIC(confused)

But that doesn’t make sense.

SOOKIEWhy?

ON BILL, who is shocked and somewhat ashamed.

BILLSookie - Jessica is my responsibility. I appreciate the thought, but that should not be of your concern.

Sookie blushes, humiliated.

ERICI will pay you very well for your efforts, but we must start searching immediately.

He holds out his arm to her. She hesitates, but takes it.

Bill looks at Sookie, concerned.

BILLSookie, I insist on accompanying you. This could be dangerous.

Sookie glares at him, but then sighs and looks at Eric.

SOOKIEHe’s got a point.

Eric raises an eyebrow at Bill.

ERICWhat about Jessica? You can’t leave her here alone.

Jessica SQUEALS and JUMPS up and down.

JESSICAOooh! Can I come? Please?

Bill and Eric look at each other, dreading the inevitable.

BILLIf it’s alright with Eric.

ERICFine.


Jessica CLAPS her hands, while Sookie looks daggers at her. Eric notices this and laughs.

ERIC (CONT’D)Now, won’t we just be the happy foursome? Come - we’ll take my car.

EXT. OLD STACKHOUSE PLACE - NIGHT 2.

The group walks toward Eric’s shiny little ASTON MARTIN V12 VANTAGE TWO-DOOR COUPE.

JESSICAShotgun!

BILLWhat do you mean?

SOOKIEShe’s claiming the front seat.

Eric stops short when he hears this. He looks Jessica over with distaste, then turns to Sookie. His lustful look is not lost on anyone.

ERICActually, Sookie, you need to take the passenger seat so we can go over the details of what happened. Jessica can sit in back with Bill.

ON BILL, as his powerless frustration shows on his face.

INT. ERIC’S CAR - NIGHT 2.

Eric drives, while Sookie sits in the passenger seat. Bill and Jessica sit in the back. Bill is obviously not pleased with the arrangement; he sits behind Eric, who has pushed his seat back so Bill has very little leg room.

ERIC(cheerfully)

Comfortable back there?

Bill just glares at him.

Eric then turns to Sookie.

ERIC(pouring on the charm)

And you, Miss Stackhouse?

She nods politely. Eric’s smile fades.


ERIC (CONT’D)Now for the business at hand.

Sookie nods and turns her full attention to him.

ERIC (CONT’D)Like I said, Pam has been missing for several nights. I didn’t think anything of it at first, because she’s free to come and go as she pleases. But then tonight, I took a look at the surveillance video from that night at the bar.

SOOKIEAnd?

ERICPam was last seen entering the restroom with a vampire I do not recognize. She did not return after that, and no one has seen her since.

In the back seat, Jessica removes her seatbelt and leans close to Bill’s ear.

JESSICA(barely breathing)

You still haven’t told me - why haven’t you told Sookie the truth about us?

Eric, who of course can still hear everything Jessica has said, perks up. He glances at Bill in the rearview mirror. Bill looks back at him. Eric smiles.

Sookie, who didn’t hear anything, notices Eric smiling and glances at the backseat, narrowing her eyes when she sees Jessica so close to Bill.

SOOKIEWhat’s going on?

Bill pushes Jessica away.

BILLNothing.

(to Eric)Go on.


ERICThat’s it. No one else seems to know this vampire, and he hasn’t been seen in Shreveport since.

Eric turns to Sookie.

ERIC (CONT’D)That’s why I need you - to use your powers to find out if anyone at Fangtasia secretly knows anything about this vampire they’re not telling me.

He glances in the rearview mirror.

ERIC(to Bill and Jessica)

You two can just go search for clues the old-fashioned way.

Bill shakes his head at him, but says nothing.

EXT. FANGTASIA - PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 2.

Eric’s shiny sports car pulls up and parks by the entrance, where a LINE OF FANGBANGERS and TOURISTS snakes out the door. Eric and Sookie jump out first, then put their seats forward so Bill and Jessica can climb out.

CLOSE ON ERIC AND BILL, as Eric helps Bill out of the car, smiling smugly. Bill just shakes his head again.

SOOKIE(re: line)

The club’s still open then, even though Pam’s missing?

ERIC(nodding)

I thought it would be better to have the patrons here so you could read their minds.

(to Bill)Why don’t you and Jessica search around the alley? Maybe you’ll find something there.

Bill nods. He’s pissed, but there’s nothing he can say, since Eric’s his boss. Jessica grabs his arm.

JESSICALet’s go.


ON SOOKIE, frowning at them as they leave.

ERICCome, Sookie - let’s look at that surveillance tape.

He motions for her to go into the club ahead of him. She complies.

INT. JASON’S HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT 2.

Jason, ready for bed, makes sure to set his alarm for the morning. Then he kneels next to his bed, folds his hands, and closes his eyes.

JASONDear Jesus, I know you were a man, so I know you understand. If you could just let me get a little friendly action with Christy Lee tomorrow, I would much appreciate it. Thanks.

He opens his eyes and smiles up at the ceiling. Then he climbs into bed and turns out the light.

His eyes stay wide open. It’s going to be a long night.

INT. FANGTASIA - ERIC’S OFFICE - LATER - NIGHT 2.

Sookie sits at Eric’s desk, which is cluttered with papers. He hovers over her, his arm around the back of her chair. They are watching a small TV monitor. He points at the screen.

ERICThere! There she is.

ON SCREEN: Stop-motion footage of the bar. A tall, blonde vampire who can only be PAM, walks diagonally across the frame and stops halfway.

Eric’s hand comes into frame, pointing at the VAMPIRE she now stands talking to.

ERIC (CONT’D)And that is the vampire she disappeared with.

CLOSER ON SCREEN: All that can be made out about this vampire is that he is small, has LONG HAIR, and has FADED BLUE TATTOOS ON HIS ARMS.


ON SOOKIE, as she looks up to discover Eric’s face right next to hers. His dark eyes are looking right into hers. He smiles. He is very handsome.

ERICYou really can’t be glamored?

Sookie smiles and shakes her head, no. She points back to the screen.

SOOKIEWhat are those tattoos?

Eric shrugs, gazing longingly at Sookie’s neck.

ERICThey look ancient. I think the vampire must be very old.

Sookie nods, taking a deep breath as Eric moves closer.

ERIC (CONT’D)Sookie?

SOOKIEHmm?

ERICWhen are you going to leave Bill and come to me? It’s only inevitable, you know.

SOOKIEWell, Eric, Bill’s my boyfriend and I love him.

ERICLove? I’m just talking about sex, Miss Stackhouse. Nothing else. Just pure, unadulterated sex.

He smiles. His FANGS are fully extended now.

Sookie blushes.

Just then, there’s a KNOCK at the door, and Eric looks up, annoyed.

ERIC (CONT’D)Yes?

GINGER peeks her head in the door.


GINGERMaster? There’s a delivery truck just arrived.

ERICSo?

Ginger becomes uncomfortable.

GINGER (CONT’D)Mistress Pam usually handles the invoice.

Eric sighs and nods. He turns to Sookie.

ERIC (CONT’D)I’ll just be a few minutes. Don’t go too far.

Sookie nods and watches him leave. Then she lets out her breath, which she was apparently holding, and looks back at the surveillance screen.

EXT. MARYANN FORRESTER’S MANSION - NIGHT 2.

It’s a clear, quiet night around the big, fancy house. Sam’s pickup pulls up near the driveway entrance and parks.

INT. SAM’S PICKUP - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 2.

Sam takes a deep breath and sits for a minute, listening to the ticking of his engine cooling. Then he begins to UNBUTTON his SHIRT.

EXT. MARYANN FORRESTER’S MANSION - MOMENTS LATER - NIGHT 2.

Sam’s truck is empty. The engine still ticks, cooling off. Suddenly, A COLLIE DOG appears from behind it and trots off in the direction of Maryann’s house.

EXT. FANGTASIA - ALLEYWAY - NIGHT 2.

Bill and Jessica walk through the dumpsters, looking carefully at the ground for any possible clue. Jessica stops and watches Bill for a moment.

JESSICAYour girlfriend’s REALLY annoying, but I still have to ask: why is it such a big secret?

BILLPardon me?


JESSICAThat you made me. Why can’t you tell her?

Bill just shakes his head and keeps looking at the ground. A smile dawns over Jessica’s face as she realizes the truth.

JESSICAIt’s because I was your first, wasn’t I?

Bill stares at her. She laughs.

JESSICA (CONT’D)How sweet! You were a virgin before me!

BILLYou are getting your terminology mixed up. What we have is more like a parent-child relationship than a sexual one. But, no, I had never turned anyone before I turned you.

JESSICAWhy not?

BILLI had never wanted to. And as you recall, I was forced to turn you.

Jessica becomes quiet.

JESSICABut why can’t you tell her that?

BILLIt’s complicated.

Jessica lets out an exasperated sigh.

JESSICABoys always say that! And it’s always because they don’t trust you enough to tell you the truth.

BILLIt would devastate her. She would feel responsible.

Jessica shakes her head.


JESSICAShe’s going to find out the truth somehow - and if it’s not from you, THEN she’ll be devastated. And so will you. She’ll never trust you after that.

Bill looks at her, surprised.

BILLHow’d you learn all this while you were still so young?

She smiles sadly.

JESSICAIt’s complicated.

Bill returns the smile.

INT. FANGTASIA - MAIN BAR AREA - NIGHT 2.

Sookie emerges from Eric’s office to a crowded joint. She looks around, but Eric isn’t anywhere to be seen. She does, however, notice CHOW, the tough new Asian vampire bartender, whose arms are covered with YAKUZA TATTOOS. She approaches the bar and sits down.

CHOWDrink?

Sookie can’t take her eyes off of Chow’s arms.

SOOKIECoke please.

Chow nods and gets her the drink. When he notices her staring, he waits expectantly.

SOOKIE (CONT’D)I’m sorry, I couldn’t help but notice your tattoos.

Chow nods.

CHOWI was a member of the Yakuza before I turned.

SOOKIEYakuza?

CHOWJapanese gang.


Sookie nods.

SOOKIEYou’ve taken over for Longshadow?

Chow nods again.

CHOWI took over his part of the business after he was staked.

Sookie looks down.

CHOW (CONT’D)And you’re Sookie Stackhouse. Eric talks about you.

ON SOOKIE as her head shoots right back up. She opens her mouth to speak, but then reconsiders.

Chow smiles coldly.

CHOW (CONT’D)They call me Chow.

Sookie smiles back. She turns on the charm.

SOOKIESo, Mr. Chow-

CHOWJust Chow.

SOOKIESo, Chow, has Eric shown you the surveillance video?

Chow shrugs.

SOOKIE (CONT’D)And you didn’t recognize the tattoos?

CHOWNo. They’re very different from mine. Very, very old. That fucker’s probably at least a couple thousand years old.

Sookie’s eyes widen.

SOOKIESo he’s very strong then.


Chow just nods. Then he turns and walks away, not saying anything more. Sookie shakes her head.

SOOKIE (CONT’D)(under her breath)

Just because you’re dead doesn’t mean you don’t have to be polite.


Jessica stands with her arms crossed, watching Bill while he searches the alleyway.

JESSICAIt stinks out here.

BILLYes.

JESSICACan’t we just go? We can tell Eric we couldn’t find anything.

Bill gives her a look.

BILLWe haven’t made a thorough search yet.

He looks at the dumpsters and sighs.

JESSICAWhat?

BILLWe have no other choice.

JESSICADo I have to?

Bill just looks at her. Jessica groans.

INT. FANGTASIA - MAIN BAR AREA - NIGHT 2.

CLOSE ON SOOKIE as she turns around on her stool to face the room, taking a sip from her soda. Her face becomes intent.

HER POV: A FEMALE FANGBANGER, all dressed in BLACK with FAKE FANGS and PAINTED ON BITE MARKS, bows in front of a HOT MALE VAMPIRE dressed like a PIRATE.

FEMALE FANGBANGER (V.O.)...like every fantasy I ever had if he’d just look at me...


ON SOOKIE, as she frowns sympathetically. Then she looks away.

HER POV: A CHUBBY FAMILY OF TOURISTS stands in a corner, afraid, but surreptitiously snapping photos of what they see.

FATHER (V.O.)...Jim will never believe me when I tell him about this place...

ON SOOKIE, as she tries not to laugh. She glances around one more time.

HER POV: A MALE FANGBANGER, homely in a way that makes him seem interesting, sits at the other end of the bar, nursing a beer.

MALE FANGBANGER (V.O.)...been coming back every night wonder why I haven’t seen him tattoos are so hot...maybe he’s straight did take off with that blonde but I definitely sensed a vibe from him...

ON SOOKIE, as her eyes widen with surprise.

She picks up her drink and moves to the seat next to the Fangbanger. He looks up, startled. Sookie smiles.

SOOKIEHi.

The Fangbanger looks away.

MALE FANGBANGERSorry honey. I’m into dicks, not chicks.

Sookie almost chokes on her drink.

SOOKIECome here often?

He gives her an odd look.

MALE FANGBANGER (V.O.)...is she retarded?

Sookie just grins back.

SOOKIEI’m Sookie.


MALE FANGBANGERDarren.

SOOKIENice to meet you, Darren. Have you met Chow, the bartender?

Darren looks puzzled.

MALE FANGBANGERWhy?

SOOKIEI just figured you were a tattoo kinda guy.

(over her shoulder)Chow, can you come hang with my friend Darren here ‘til I find Eric?

CHOWSure thing.

Darren looks over Sookie’s shoulder, only to meet eyes with the handsome bartender - who is quite obviously glamoring him. He smiles dreamily.

SOOKIE(to Chow)

Where do the delivery trucks park?

CHOWBy the employee entrance in the back. But if they’re unloading, it’s better to go around from outside.

SOOKIE(nodding)

I’ll be right back.

Chow nods.


Bill and Jessica dig through the dumpster. Jessica gags.

JESSICAThis is so gross!

But then Bill holds a up a triumphant fist and jumps out. He helps Jessica out after him.


JESSICA (CONT’D)What did you find?

He opens his hand, and in his palm lies a FELLOWSHIP OF THE SUN PROMISE NECKLACE. But it’s silver - so his palm is smoking. He quickly drops it to the ground.

BILLSomeone from the Fellowship of the Sun was here.

JESSICAYou think they took Pam?

Bill nods.

BILLNow just to find where they went.

He takes a step closer to where Jessica stands, and she backs away with repulsion.

JESSICAPee-uuu! No offense, but you stink. You need to get out of those clothes ASAP. And I do, too.

Bill looks down at his clothing, covered with sickening smears of liquid from the trash bin.

Without a further thought, Jessica starts stripping off her clothes.

JESSICA (CONT’D)At least take off your shirt. It’s disgusting.

EXT. FANGTASIA - PARKING LOT - NIGHT 2.

Sookie emerges from the bar, looking around. She heads toward the alleyway.

EXT. FANGTASIA - ALLEYWAY - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 2.

Jessica stands in her underwear, and Bill is now shirtless.

JESSICAYou sure you don’t want to take off your pants too?

Bill looks up and freezes.

HIS POV: SOOKIE stands frozen at the entrance to the alley.


SOOKIEWhat is going on here?

Bill shakes his head at Sookie and glares at Jessica.

BILLSookie, it’s not what you think.

Just then Eric shows up at the other end of the alley. When he takes in the scene, he smiles broadly.

ERICWell, well, well, Bill! A little unorthodox, having sex with the one you sired, but obviously not unheard of.

Sookie glares at Bill.

SOOKIEExplain.

BILLWe were not having sex. Our clothes were dirty--

SOOKIEI mean the whole “sired” thing. YOU made her? Why didn’t you tell me?

Bill sighs.

BILLI will explain everything. Soon.

He takes a piece of trash and uses it to pick the necklace off the ground and show it to Eric.

BILL (CONT’D)Jessica and I were searching in the dumpster and found this.

Eric is surprised. He obviously didn’t expect them to actually find anything in the alley.

Sookie shakes her head and, without a word, turns and leaves.

BILLSookie!

He and Eric follow her, while Jessica slowly follows them.


INT. FANGTASIA - MAIN BAR AREA - MOMENTS LATER - NIGHT 2.

Bill and Eric find Sookie standing with Chow in front of the glamored Fangbanger, who is totally out of it.

Sookie makes a point of turning her back to Bill. She looks at Eric, all business now.

Jessica watches quietly from the door.

SOOKIEDarren was here that night and was totally obsessed with that mysterious vampire. He watched him the whole time. We can ask him for details.

Eric looks at Chow.

ERICYou overdid it a bit on the glamoring, didn’t you? We’re going to have to wait until tomorrow evening now before we’ll be able to get anything out of him.

Chow shrugs.

CHOWYou guys took a long time to get here.

SOOKIE(to Eric)

Now please - just take me home now.

Eric sighs.

ERICUnfortunately, I can’t do that. Not until we actually find Pam and bring her back. Especially since the Fellowship’s apparently involved.

SOOKIEBut it’s almost dawn anyway!

ERICExactly - and someone needs to watch the fangbanger to make sure he doesn’t get away while we rest.

Sookie is crestfallen.


SOOKIEAnd that someone is me?

ERICYou’re the only human I trust. And that I’m paying to do this.

Sookie shifts uncomfortably.

ERIC (CONT’D)We need this lead. I will put you up in the finest hotel in Shreveport.

Bill turns and walks out the door. Jessica follows him.

EXT. FANGTASIA - PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT 2.

Jessica catches up to Bill and grabs his arm. He yanks it away.

JESSICAWhere are you going?

BILLTo the finest hotel in Shreveport. I will find a way to talk to Sookie.

JESSICAWhat about me? It’s almost dawn.

BILLStay here. Fangtasia has a spare room for emergencies like this.

Jessica nods.

JESSICA(hesitantly)

I’m sorry.

BILLFor what?

JESSICAFor whatever role I played in this. At first, I thought it’d be fun - but it’s not.

Bill just nods and turns away. In a flash, he’s gone.



The COLLIE is tiptoeing through the tulips, sniffing around for something. But, not finding what he wants, he looks up.

HIS POV: the full yard, complete with swimming pool, sits before him, with plenty of trees and furniture.

The collie moves toward one of the trees to sniff at its base.

Suddenly, there’s a SNAPPING OF A TWIG, and the collie freezes, its ears straight up.

Then there’s the sound of HEAVY BREATHING.

The collie lets out a small WHINE.

The next moment, MARYANN’S PIG ATTACKS THE COLLIE!

INT. MARYANN FORRESTER’S MANSION - TARA’S ROOM - NIGHT 2.

TARA suddenly sits up in bed, awakened from a deep sleep by the sounds of GROWLING AND YELPING coming from outside. She sits still for a moment, but then there’s the distinctive sound of a MAN’S YELL OF PAIN.

She switches on her bedside lamp and jumps out of bed, throwing on her robe. Then she runs out of the room.

INT. MARYANN FORRESTER’S MANSION - HALLWAY - CONT. - NIGHT 2.

Tara bursts out of her room, only to find MARYANN FORRESTER calmly whispering with a SERVANT.

MARYANN(to Tara)

What are you doing?

TARAChecking to see what’s going on. It sounds like someone’s hurt.

Maryann tries to wave it off.

MARYANNIt’s just wild animals fighting. Nothing to concern yourself with.

TARABut I heard a man yell.

ON MARYANN, as a flash of concern crosses her face.


MARYANNIf I have the butler go out and see, will that be enough for you?

Tara nods suspiciously.

TARAOkay.

Maryann glides down the hallway, and the RINGING OF A SMALL BELL can be heard in the distance. We then hear some MURMURING between Maryann and her butler, before she returns.

MARYANNHe already checked.

TARAAnd?

MARYANNNothing but a wild boar and a dog.

Tara looks disappointed.

MARYANN (CONT’D)Sometimes dogs can sound like men when they’re hurt.

Tara nods and turns back to her room.

INT. MARYANN FORRESTER’S MANSION - TARA’S ROOM - NIGHT 2.

Tara climbs into bed and lies down. But she has an uneasy expression on her face.


The BUTLER drags an unconscious - and naked - SAM toward his truck. With amazing strength, the Butler then loads Sam into the truck, climbs inside, and drives away.

INT. F.O.S. CHURCH - SANCTUARY - PRE-DAWN 3.

JASON and HOYT, dressed in their church finest, and with Jason wearing his new pin, arrive in the midst of a fresh-faced crowd for the pre-dawn service. Jason scans the people, searching until...

HIS POV: CHRISTY LEE sits with her father in the front row.

BACK ON JASON AND HOYT, as Jason grins and pulls on Hoyt’s elbow.


JASONCome on!

They approach Orry and his daughter. Jason clears his throat, and Orry looks up.

JASON (CONT’D)Good morning sir! I’d like you to meet my friend, Hoyt Fortenberry.

(to Hoyt)Hoyt, this is Mr. Orry Dawson.

Orry looks to Hoyt and smiles. Hoyt nods.

JASON (CONT’D)May we sit with you?

Orry nods. Christy Lee looks pleased as punch. Jason takes the seat next to her, while Hoyt sits on the other side of him.

Christy Lee leans over Jason to shake Hoyt’s hand, giving a full view down her shirt.

CHRISTY LEEHi Hoyt! I’m Christy Lee.

Hoyt just smiles back, tongue-tied.

Christy Lee innocently brushes against Jason as she leans back. She also manages to shift her leg so their thighs are touching. Jason swallows hard.

CHRISTY LEE (CONT’D)Y’all are just in time.

Just then, STEVE NEWLIN, the young man we recognize as the leader of the Fellowship from their TV ads, steps up to the pulpit.

ANGLE ON THE CONGREGATION, as they applaud him enthusiastically.

BACK ON STEVE, as he waves for them to quiet down.

STEVENow, I appreciate that. I really do. Especially after recent circumstances.

Hoyt leans over to Jason.


HOYTIs he the one whose Daddy and Mama and little baby sister were killed in that car crash?

Jason just nods and hushes him.

BACK ON STEVE:

STEVEWe live in a dark time, church. Just as dark as the nighttime sky outside.

A chorus of AMEN’s rises from the congregation.

STEVE (CONT’D)Our freedom is being challenged - in fact, there are some that are trying with all their might to take it away.

Beat. He waits for the AMEN’s to quiet down.

STEVE (CONT’D)But we need to fight for our rights. We need to do what we can to keep our freedom. We will not let them call darkness light and light darkness!

ON HOYT, as he leans over again.

HOYT(to Jason)

What’s he talking about?

Orry gives Jason a look, like he should shut Hoyt up.

Jason just looks at Hoyt and shrugs.

BACK ON STEVE, as he raises his arms.

STEVEThis is why we, the faithful, have gathered today. This is why we, God’s soldiers, have come together for battle. We have come to reveal the truth - and the truth will set the world free!

ANGLE ON THE CONGREGATION as they go wild.


CLOSE ON JASON, who actually looks just as confused as Hoyt now. But then Christy Lee turns to him, smiling enthusiastically, and he smiles back.

JASON(to Christy Lee)

What is he talking about?

Christy Lee shakes her head patronizingly, as if Jason is a four-year-old who’s forgotten what he learned only yesterday.

CHRISTY LEEOnly the whole reason why we’re here this morning! To celebrate the repentance of a mass murderer who is now choosing to leave our earth for good and take another with him.

JASONWhat?

INT. F.O.S. CHURCH - BASEMENT CELL - PRE-DAWN 3.

In the depths of the church is a holding cell. In it sits a PRISONER, wearing a clean, white, shirt and pants.

CLOSE ON THE PRISONER, as he looks up at the sound of CHEERING coming from upstairs. He is the SAME VAMPIRE FROM ERIC’S SURVEILLANCE VIDEO - complete with LONG HAIR and FADED BLUE TATTOOS on his arms. He looks defeated.

PAM (O.S.)Your fans must be cheering for you.

The vampire slumps with shame.

INT. F.O.S. CHURCH - PAM’S CELL - PRE-DAWN 3.

Pam, in the same white shirt and pants, sits bound and shackled. She hisses toward the other cell.

PAMWhat a hero you are.

Another wave of CHEERING comes from upstairs.

INT. F.O.S. CHURCH - SANCTUARY - CONT. - PRE-DAWN 3.

Christy Lee grins eagerly at Jason while the rest of the congregation bursts into worship. As she leans in, Hoyt does too.


CHRISTY LEEWe’ve got two vampires. And, on the Summer Solstice next week, in celebration of the longest day of the year, we’re going to help them meet the dawn.

CLOSE ON JASON AND HOYT as their eyes widen with understanding.

INT. HOTEL - ROOM - LATER - PRE-DAWN 3.

Standard room with two queen beds. Suddenly, the door kicks open, and Eric and Sookie guide the dazed Fangbanger inside to sit on one of the beds. Sookie begins to cry.

Eric glances at the window. It’s not dawn yet, but it will be soon. Finally, he pushes the Fangbanger into a lying position, then turns to Sookie, sighing.

ERICTell me.

Sookie stops crying and looks at him, an eyebrow raised. He nods.

She opens her mouth to speak.

SOOKIEI just - why didn’t he tell me?

ERICBill? About what?

SOOKIEAbout being the one who made Jessica.

Eric gives her a look.

ERICHe probably thought you’d act like this.

Sookie glares at him.

ERIC (CONT’D)And he probably didn’t want you to know he was required to do it for Longshadow’s staking.

Sookie sits down on the bed in shock. Eric sits beside her and puts his arm around her shoulders. She shrugs him off and moves away slightly.


SOOKIEOh.

Just then, the Fangbanger sits up, alert. Sookie jumps.

ERIC(laughs)

Don’t worry - that’s just a side effect of his being over-glamored. It’s pretty hilarious, actually. And completely harmless. He’ll lie back down eventually.

The Fangbanger looks at them without seeing them. Sookie shudders and stands up.

SOOKIEYou should go. It’s almost morning.

Eric smiles, his FANGS fully bared.

ERICYou sure, Sookie? Now seems like a pretty perfect time for us to follow through on our potential.

ON SOOKIE, her eyes widened with horror.

SOOKIEEric Northman! You put those things away! Right now!

He laughs. Sookie pushes him toward the door.

SOOKIE (CONT’D)Come on - get out of here before you burn to a crisp right in front of me.

Eric stands in the hallway, looking back at Sookie with an amused look on his face.

ERICWorried for me, Miss Stackhouse?

SOOKIEMore like I’m not in the mood for a show right now.

And she closes the door in his face.

Then she moves back to the bed and flops down, quietly beginning to cry again.


CLOSE ON SOOKIE as a shadow suddenly passes over her face and her eyes widen in fear.

INT. HOTEL - HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS - PRE-DAWN 3.

Eric flashes away from the door. After he’s gone, Bill steps out from around the corner and KNOCKS.

BILLSookie? I must speak with you.

There’s no response - just the sound of muffled moans.

BILL (CONT’D)Please. I can feel that you’re agitated, but you must know that I wanted to tell you the truth.

Nothing. Bill glances at the window. The first glimpses of purple are starting to appear in the sky - he has to go. Now.

BILL (CONT’D)I must leave - but I will return in the evening. I must talk to you.

He hesitates, but still doesn’t get an answer. Then he turns to leave.

INT. HOTEL - ROOM - CONTINUOUS - PRE-DAWN 3.

Meanwhile, inside, the glamored Fangbanger has his hands wrapped around Sookie’s throat. He chokes her mercilessly. She is quickly losing consciousness...
