Chapter 1

Introduction:In Olongapo City, theres a lot of Colleges but Gordon College was known as the most famous college school in Olongapo City. Gordon College considered as one of the highest passing rates in LED and one of the highest literate when it comes to learning. Gordon College assimilate different macro skill that the instructor needed. They teach in many different ways and techniques to learned their students. Students have differences when it comes in learning, they have a different learning styles.

There are three ways of learning styles, first is Visual learners which is the students can learn a lot using sight. Visual learners use pictures, visual aids to learn easily. Second is Auditory Learners. The students that are visual learners can easily learn by getting information on what they hear, they also can easily do something whenever they listening music. And the last is the Tactile learners or Kinesthetic Learners. Those students that are kinesthetic learners are refer to touch as their primary mode for talking information. In traditional situations, they should write out important facts. They also create study sheets connected to vivid examples and last role-playing can help them learn and remember important facts.

Students preferentially take in and process information in different ways: by seeing and hearing, reflecting and acting, reasoning logically and intuitively, analyzing and visualizing, steadily and in fits and starts. Teaching methods also vary. Some instructors lecture, others demonstrate or lead students to self-discovery; some focus on principles and others on applications; some emphasize memory and others understanding.

When mismatches exist between learning styles of most students in a class and the teaching style of the professor, the students may become bored and inattentive in class, do poorly on tests, get discouraged about the courses, the curriculum, and themselves, and in some cases change to other curricula or drop out of school. Professors, confronted by low test grades, unresponsive or hostile classes, poor attendance and dropouts, know something is not working. They may become overly critical of their students (making things even worse) or begin to wonder if they are in the right profession. Most seriously, society loses potentially excellent professionals. To overcome these problems, professors should strive for a balance of instructional methods (as opposed to trying to teach each student exclusively according to his or her preferences.) If the balance is achieved, all students will be taught partly in a manner they prefer, which leads to an increased comfort level and willingness to learn, and partly in a less preferred manner, which provides practice and feedback in ways of thinking and solving problems which they may not initially be comfortable with but which they will have to use to be fully effective professionals.

This site contains resources for a model of learning styles generally referred to as the Felder-Silverman model. The model was originally formulated by Dr. Felder in collaboration with Dr. Linda K. Silverman, an educational psychologist, for use by college instructors and students in engineering and the sciences, although it has subsequently been applied in a broad range of disciplines.

In my research study, I will search the differences learning styles of BSED 1B in their English performance. This study also determine the performance of every students in BSED 1B Academic School Year 2015-2016.

History:Gordon College was an off-shoot of the Olongapo City training Center, then a training center for skilled man power for employment at the Naval facility of the United States. With the facilitys closure and the slowing down of demand for skilled workers, City residents shifted to professional courses. The unavailability of affordable tertiary institutions for urban poor sector of the population led the City Government of Olongapo, During the incumbency of Hon. Katherine H. Gordon, then City Mayor to open the Olongapo City Colleges through City Ordinance No. 9 Series of 1999.

Initially, the College offered Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Bachelor of Science in Computer Studies to 177 enrollees. Additional four-year programs were offered in the succeeding years to accommodate the demand of City residents for other programs.

City Ordinance No. 42, Series of 2002 was passed in may 2002, providing a change in the name of Olongapo City Colleges to Gordon College, its present name, in honor of the Gordon families who greatly contributed to the development of the City of Olongapo. In the same year, the college was officially accepted as a member of the Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU).

In 2004, a revision on the legal basis for the creation and operation of Gordon College was made through City Ordinance No. 36, Series of 2004. In the same year, the college was granted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Region III, and the certification to operate with autonomy as per provision of the Local Government Code of 1991.

Today, in addition to its undergraduate programs and TESDA accredited training programs, the College opened its graduate programs.
