FOUTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Theme: “You are the light of the world”
Is it not strange? We are surprised if we see someone hiding a lamp under a table
and yet we are not surprised at seeing a Christian who is not a light for others. I
ask you, is it not very strange?
In the first reading, Isaiah says: “Share your bread with the hungry. And shelter
the homeless poor, clothe the man you see to be naked and give relief to the op-
pressed.” And he adds, “then will your light shine like the dawn, your light will
rise in the darkness."
After hearing this reading, we responded with the words of psalm 111; “The good
man is a light in the darkness.” How? The psalm says, “he is generous, merciful
and just; he takes pity."
The message is clear and simple. But now I ask myself, does my life speak
clearly and simply that message? Am I generous, merciful and just? Do I take
pity on those around me? Perhaps I should ask myself questions that go even
deeper, questions that touch my life more closely still.
If a poor man knocks at my door, how do I receive him? If someone comes to me
saying he is hungry, do I welcome him at my table? If I meet someone truly in
need, do I do something to help him/her? If I see somebody unjustly treated, do I
stand to defend him/her? Whenever I am of help to anybody, I am a light in the
lives of those people. When I do not, I leave them the dark. The absent of good is
evil.

Tema: "Eres la luz del mundo"
¿No es extraño? Nos sorprende ver a alguien esconder una lámpara debajo de una
mesa y sin embargo no nos sorprende ver a un Cristiano que no es una luz para
otros. Te lo pregunto, ¿no es muy extraño?
En la primera lectura, Isaías dice: "Comparte tu pan con el hambriento. Y alber-
gue a los desamparados pobres, viste al hombre que ves desnudo y alivia a los
oprimidos. "Y añade:" entonces brillará tu luz como el alba, tu luz resucitará en
las tinieblas ".
Después de escuchar esta lectura, respondimos con las palabras del salmo 111;
"El hombre bueno es una luz en la oscuridad." ¿Cómo? El salmo dice: "Él es ge-
neroso, misericordioso y justo; Él tiene piedad. "
El mensaje es claro y simple. Pero ahora me pregunto, ¿mi vida habla claramente
y simplemente ese mensaje? ¿Soy generoso, misericordioso y justo? ¿Tengo pie-
dad de los que me rodean? Tal vez debería hacerme preguntas que van aún más
profundas, preguntas que tocan mi vida más de cerca todavía.
Si un pobre hombre toca a mi puerta, ¿cómo lo recibo? Si alguien viene a mí di-
ciendo que tiene hambre, ¿le doy la bienvenida a mi mesa? Si encuentro a alguien
realmente necesitado, ¿hago algo para ayudarlo? Si veo a alguien injustamente
tratado, ¿puedo defenderlo? Siempre que soy de ayuda a alguien, vidas de esas
personas. Cuando no lo hago, les dejo la oscuridad. Lo ausente del bien es malo.

A veces, miro hacia atrás en mi vida y puedo ver a las mu-
chas personas que han venido a mi manera en diferentes
períodos de mi vida. De todas las personas, he sabido, algu-
nas caras vuelven a mí muy claramente. Son las personas
que han sido una luz para mí. Puede ser esta o aquella cua-
lidad que me atrae. Puede ser esta o aquella actitud que tu-
vieron que fue una luz en mi camino. Quizás, éste fue gene-
roso conmigo. Otro era siempre honesto de esta manera. Un
tercero era realmente fiel, siempre podía contar con su ayu-
da. Cada vez que era, cada uno de ellos tenía algo que trajo
luz en mi vida. Algo que realmente apuntaba a Cristo. Mi-
rando a esa persona podría decir; "Así será Cristo".
Y esto es lo que un cristiano, lo que tú y yo estamos llama-
dos a ser para la gente que nos rodea. Jesús dice: "Tu luz
debe brillar a la vista de los hombres". Lo que decimos, lo
que hacemos, cómo somos, debemos iluminar el camino de
todos aquellos con quienes vivimos y trabajamos.
A medida que lee esto, tal vez usted se piensa a sí mismo:
¿no es esto jactancia, esto no está mostrando, a pensar que
puedo mostrar a otros lo que hacer y cómo vivir? A esto,
respondo., Algunas personas pueden mostrarse. Algunas
personas pueden tratar de ser vistas como piadosas o gene-
rosas. Pero, un cristiano se comporta de esta manera, no
para ganar las alabanzas de la gente por sí mismo. No. Si-
gue lo que dice Jesús y lo que hemos oído hoy. "Así que,
viendo vuestras buenas obras, pueden alabar a vuestro Pa-
dre."
¿Alguna vez has pensado en esto? Hay muchas personas
que viven en nuestro mundo que aún no han conocido a
Cristo. Su mensaje nunca se les ha hablado. A menos que
vean la luz de Cristo en ustedes, algunos de ellos nunca
llegarán a conocerlo. Ellos necesitan ver en su propia vida
lo que él puede traer a sus vidas.
Puede decir que he tratado de vivir una buena vida cristia-
na. He tratado de seguir a Jesús y hacer lo que él pide a un
cristiano, pero, parece que algunas personas alrededor no
han cambiado sus caminos. No se han convertido en mejo-
res cristianos, aunque trato de mostrarles por mi ejemplo lo
que Jesús espera de nosotros.
Déjame decirte esto, no te desanimes. Usted recuerda el
dicho; "Toda la oscuridad del mundo no puede apagar la
pequeña vela que arde en la noche". Tenga esto en cuenta
mientras trata de ser una luz para los demás.
Al salir de la iglesia hoy, vamos con un solo pensamiento:
"¿Dónde puedo, dónde debo, ser una luz en la próxima se-
mana?" Con mi familia ... con los miembros de OLGC ...
mis amigos ... vecinos ... visitantes ... extraños ... con
quienquiera Viene mi manera, deja mi luz brillar en su / su
manera.
FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
(Continued from page 1) At times, I look back at my life and I can see the many
people who have come my way at different periods of my
life. Of all the people, I have known, some faces come
back to me very clearly. They are the people who have
been a light for me. It may be this or that quality in them
that appeals to me. It may be this or that attitude they had
which was a light on my path. Perhaps, this one was gen-
erous to me. Another one was always honest in this way.
A third one was truly faithful, I could always count on
his/her help. Whenever it was, each one of them had
something that brought light into my life. Something that
really pointed to Christ. Looking at that person I could
say; “this is how Christ would be.”
And this is what a Christian, what you and I are called to
be for the people around us. Jesus says: “Your light must
shine in the sight of men.” What we say, what we do, how
we are, should throw light on the path of all those we live
and work with.
As you read this, perhaps you think to yourself: is this not
boasting, is this not showing off, to think that I can show
others what to do and how to live? To this, I answer.,
some people may be showing off. Some people may try to
be seen as pious or generous. But, a Christian behaves in
this way, not to gain the praises of people for himself/
herself. No. He follows what Jesus says and what we have
heard today. “So, that seeing your good works, they may
give praise to your Father.”
Have you ever thought of this? There are many people
living in our world who have yet to meet Christ. His mes-
sage has never been spoken to them. Unless they see the
light of Christ in you, some of them will never come to
know Him. They need to see in your own life what he can
bring to their lives.
You may say I have tried to live a good Christian life. I
have tried to follow Jesus and do what he asks from a
Christian, but, it seems some people around have not
changed their ways. They have not become better Chris-
tians, even if I try to show them by my example what Je-
sus expects from us.
Let me say this to you - do not get discouraged. You re-
member the saying; “All the darkness in the world cannot
blow out the one small candle burning in the night.” Keep
this in mind as you try to be a light for others.
As we leave the church today, let us go with one thought:
“Where can I, where should I, be a light this coming
week?” With my family… with OLGC members… my
friends… neighbors… visitors… stranger… with who-
ever comes my way, let my light shine on his/her way.

LA CANDELARIA – 2 DE FEBRERO BENDICIÓN DE LAS VELAS DURANTE LA MISA
Esta fiesta celebrada el 2 de Febrero, conmemora la pri-mera entrada de Jesús en el templo: la Luz del mundo. Este es el día tradicional cuando las familias traen la ima-gen del Niño Jesús a la iglesia para su bendición. Le invitamos a traer sus velas para celebrar la Candelaria en la Misa de las 7:30 PM el Martes 2 de Febrero. El sacer-dote también, estará bendiciendo las gargantas des-pués de finalizar las Misa.
FIESTA DE SAN BLAS, 3 DE FEBRERO BENDICIÓN DE LAS GARGANTAS
El 3 de Febrero es el día de San Blas, es el día tradicional para bendecir las gargantas. San Blas es el patrón de los médicos, del enfermo y en particular de aquellos que pa-decen enfermedades de la garganta. Damos gracias a Dios por nuestra salud. Pedimos a Dios su bendición pa-ra una buena salud. Recordamos que estamos llamados a cuidar nuestra salud y tener un cuidado especial con todos los que están enfermos. Los sacerdotes bende-cirán las gargantas el Viernes 3 de Enero en las Misa de las 7:30 , después de la misa del Sábado 4 a las 9:00 AM y después de finalizar la vigilia del Sábado y las misas del Domingo .

THE FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD, FEBRUARY 2
BLESSING OF CANDLES AT MASS This feast, celebrated on February 2, commemorates the first entrance of Jesus into the temple: The Light of the world, now borne in by Mary and Joseph to be offered to God. It is a feast of light. Candles for use throughout the year are traditionally blessed. On Tuesday, February 2nd at the 7:30 PM Spanish Mass, we invite you to bring candles to be blessed The priest will bless throats at the end of Mass also.
THE FEAST OF ST. BLAISE, FEBRUARY 3 BLESSING OF THE THROATS
February 3 is the Feast of Saint Blaise, the traditional day for the blessing of throats. Saint Blaise is the patron of physicians and the sick, in particular those with sicknesses of the throat. We thank God for the gift of our health. We ask God for the blessing of good health. We remem-ber that we are called to care for our health and to take special care of those who are ill. The priests will bless throats on Friday February 3 after the 7:30 AM mass, after the Saturday 9:00 AM mass and after the Saturday vigil and Sunday masses,

31, 2017. 2. Please bring a copy of your child’s Baptis-
mal and Birth Certificates which will be re-tained.
3. Please bring a copy of *proof of immuniza-tion which will be retained by the school. (*State law requires this information at the time of registration).
4. Parishioners are required to have their Par-ish Envelope Number. To be considered a parishioner for tuition purposes, you must be active and participating for the year be-fore Sept. 2017.
5. A $35.00 NON-REFUNDABLE application fee per new family is required for Pre-K.
