JANUARY 22, 2018 GRADE 2 UNIT OF INQUIRY NEWSLETTER WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME Key Vocabulary In this unit, students will inquire into how inventions from around the world have helped contribute to how we live in the present. We will also be looking into how places have changed over time, and how that has changed the opportunities available in those places. We will examine Shenzhen as an example of how a city can drastically change in a short amount of time and what effect those changes have. Students will create a visual representation of Shenzhen in the past and present, comparing the lives of people who lived here before and people who live here now. Students will also explain their own family’s journey to Shenzhen. Central Idea: Knowledge of the past can provide insight into the present. Key Concepts: Perspective (What are the points of view?) Change (How is it changing?) Reflection (How do we know?) Students will inquire into: 1. How inventions shape present day life 2.How the changes in a place aect opportunities 3. Key Vocabulary
