Teacher’s Message

Our character focus for the month of March is TEAMWORK. People who work well in a team are able to cooperate with others, compromise when needed, take turns to share responsibilities, and are able to lead and follow. Being a good teammate is not just about playing sports, but also how you relate to your teacher, your classmates, and your family. Let’s spend the month of March working together as a team to accomplish all of our goals. Thank you to all the families who completed an additional Media Release form. This information is very important and I want to respect your child’s privacy but also share all of the wonderful work we are doing in Room 3 with people outside our classroom with your written permission! Please remember to sign the weekly homework sheet and the reading log daily. In addition to the daily homework assigned, students are being assigned practice in their math flashcards. Practice should be done nightly and recorded on the weekly homework sheet. For those students who are on their Subtraction Math Races, subtraction flash cards will begin to be sent home. Curriculum

We have published our Personal Narratives and the students have had some wonderful stories to share! Please be on the lookout for an invitation to a Publishing Party we are going to have so we can share our writing with our families. We are beginning to write our “I Am” poems where the students are going to write the poem from the perspective of either Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Barack Obama, or Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will also be taking our second round of benchmarks for literacy and math the second week of March. The second reporting period for report cards ends this month as well.

Read Across America March 2nd is Read Across America day as well as Dr. Seuss’ birthday! To celebrate both these events we have pledged to read 240 books as a class! We will also be celebrating by reading some of our favorite Dr. Seuss books and wearing hats like The Cat in the Hat that show the books we have read. We are really looking forward to celebrating! The 100th Day of School is March 4th! I can’t believe we have been in school for 100 days already! We will be working with the number 100 throughout the entire day. Students are also going to present their poster containing 100 things that morning. Information and directions were sent home with the Monday homework, but if there are additional questions please contact me and I will assist with a more detailed explanation.
