January Peace Council Spotlight News

Automatic Openers on the Front Entry

Donations have been given and memorials

received for the installation of the automatic

openers. This project is completed! Thank you!

2016 Budget

The 2016 budget will be finalized at the council

meeting on January 13th, 2016. A preliminary

draft was worked on prior to the December

meeting.

Peace Service Groups

When serving for the Sunday service groups,

our 2016 goal is for simplicity and work towards

self-serving. Do simple snacks, and have coffee

warmers full. Take this time to visit and enjoy

the fellowship hour with your church family. A

working automatic coffee maker is on order and

will be installed soon.

Pastoral Transition

The council has frequently met to assure the

ministries at Peace will continue as they have

when we had a full time Pastor. We are now in

the process of negotiating for the services of an

interim pastor. That process consists of

defining what our needs are at the present; how

they can be fulfilled with church members and

the amount of professional pastoral care needed

and who is available for the interim process.

Once an offer has been made to an interim

candidate, contracts completed and signed, the

contracts must then be approved by the

Northwest Synod’s Bishop’s office. During this

process, our church Administrator Sandy, will

schedule pulpit supply for worship on Sundays.

We have member volunteers for the Release

time, and confirmation class. These volunteers

have our heartfelt gratitude but also request

prayerful support as they take on these areas of

church teaching.

As this process unfolds, the congregation will be

informed if and when the Bishop approves this

plan. Our annual congregational meeting will be

held January 24th after the morning worship.

Consider attending and keep informed about

the happenings of the entire Peace Church’s

family.

Council Chairman, Tom Gardner, is the direct

contact person with the synod and with the in-

terim candidate. If you have questions or con-

cerns, contact any of the council members who

are listed on the front page of the newsletter.

They are your resources and will answer the

questions with the information we presently

have available to us.

Our goal is to have this interim process in place

within a month.

From Sally Tolifson’s December 27th message

and the passages from Luke: Search the

teachings for Wisdom and look for

Reassurance from the scriptures. Together

the Peace family will meet the challenges ahead

and grow from the experience.

Volunteers Requested

Tom Gardener would like representatives from

each of the functioning Peace groups to get a

brief in-service to learn how to use the audio-

visual and sound system. The training will help

them utilize the equipment with their programs.

Contact Tom @ 320-528-6278. He will

coordinate the brief in service/process.

Peace Lutheran Church Council Meeting November 11, 2015 6 p.m.

Call Meeting to Order—Jan absent.

Devotional Time----Pastor Matthew Acts 3 Miracles of the early church on a very normal day.

Secretary’s Report—Discussed November 4 special meeting minutes taken by Marilyn. There were no motions, just information

provided. Notes have been sent to council and Sandy. The call committee recommendation is for two present council members and

two who were on the call committee when Pastor Matthew was called. Betty DeClercq and Leon Johnson who were on the call

committee and have agreed to be on the committee and Tom Garner and Marilyn Frykman will represent the current council. MTA

Leon. 2nd Brenda. MCU

Treasurer’s Report—Discussed Pastor Matthew’s end of the year mileage submission. MTA Leon. 2nd Brenda. MCU

Pastor’s Report—Pastor is getting stuff together. He has had several visits with people who have chosen not to be known that they

have been getting visits. Pastor Matthew has asked those persons if they will want visits from an interim pastor or if they would like a

referral to a counselor such as Lutheran Social Services. Pastor had a great vacation with his friend. There has been some expres-

sion of interest in sharing the responsibility of leading youth group activities from 3 individuals and Pastor Matthew will be talking to

a fourth.

Old Business

Outside Clean Up—Leon talked to the person doing snow removal and they have agreed to continue this year. Discussed

thank you gift of appreciation. Leon has agreed to do a few spot fixes on the lawn bringing in dirt and some grass seed for

spots damaged by the parking lot installation. He will also do some spot cleaning of the outside of the building.

Funeral Foods Costs—Marilyn has met with both vendors and will be setting up a meeting with group leaders and develop

some new plans prior to the 2016 Annual meeting.

New Business

Building Committee report on Handicap accessible entry doors—Tom Perry presented a bid by Chad Moritz for the two

front doors for just over $5000. Will work with existing locks and doors. We have had a few individuals express that they

would wish to donate funds for this purpose. Marilyn will put notice in the Spotlight regarding the doors to notify members

if they wish to contribute. Motion by Jennifer to give those working on the project authority to move forward as funds are

received.

Pastor Matthew Resignation—Effective November 29, 2015. MTA Brenda. 2nd Marilyn. MCU with sadness and well wish-

es.

Release Time, Confirmation, plans forward—Pastor Matthew has stories prepared for the rest of the year. He has no spe-

cial curriculum. Release time could be led by an outgoing lay person. If someone is interested in heading the program Pas-

tor Matthew is willing to discuss recommendations with that person.

Web page updates, Coordination, plans forward—Sandy has the basics down. Facebook and the web page were set up for

the secretary to do updates. If someone is else tech savvy would like to volunteer, it may be beneficial for that person to

provide support to Sandy if things don’t run as smoothly as they are supposed to.

Pastor’s required paperwork to Synod—Will talk about with Pastor Erdal. Pastor Matthew received copies.

Portico health insurance; only to November 29. End of call report to Portico (Sandy K)—Completed.

Consideration of No Parking Zone out front to allow those with mobility issues easier access when parents are picking up

children from Sunday School—Yellow Painting has been done. Will revisit discussion after putting information in the

newsletter. Discussed sending out information to Sunday School Parents along with the Christmas Program Practice infor-

mation. Consideration of Time, Talents and Resources—Discussion about asking other churches to assist with Release

advised for discounts.

You are invited to join us for an unforgettable experience within a Christ-centered community at Luther Crest Bible Camp. Come experience God’s love and grace on the shores of Lake Carlos near Alexandria, Minnesota. We take pride in providing unique, fun, safe, and spiritual-ly-fulfilling summer camp experiences where our well-trained and outstanding summer minis-try team walks and grows together with you on your faith journey! Whether you are returning to camp or seeking new adventures, all are welcome as we dive into the Bible and explore

WHY CAMP? Because camps DO faith through service and community... Camps do an excellent job of developing young adult leaders. Most Pastors and Church Leaders trace their call to leadership back to a camp experience.

Families learn family faith activities at camp. They participate! They do faith.

Children, youth and families grow in faith and service because camp is service-oriented. We learn better through doing.

Camps are incubators for participants to learn to live in Christian community, because we are living in community while we are at camp.

Participants grow in "awe and wonder" at camp as they are "in" God's creation.
