Because of the seriousness of this flu season, Bishop Bartchak has asked that the Precious Blood of the Lord not be offered at Mass temporarily. It is the belief of the Catholic Church that the whole Body of Christ is present under either form of consecrated bread and wine. Also, the exchange of the sign of peace should avoid bodily contact. A reverent nod with eye contact and a smile will be a

temporary prac ce. These norms are in effect throughout the winter months or un l the flu season is over.

Pray For. . .

the repose of the souls of John Jordan and Lester Hoover (father of Larry Hoover) who have entered eternal life. May John and Lester rest in God’s peace and may the comfort of the Lord be with their families.

St. Benedict 2018 Winter/Spring Bible Study Schedule The le er of St. Paul that is heard more o en than any other as the Second Reading on Sundays in the three-year Catholic lec onary, is his Le er to the Romans. This le er is the longest, the most influen al and most rewarding of Paul’s undisputed le ers. The Le er to the Romans is a powerful exposi on of the doctrine of the supremacy of Christ and of faith in Christ as the source of salva on. It is an implicit plea to the Chris ans at Rome, and to all Chris ans, to hold fast to that faith. Deacon Michael will facilitate an in-depth study of St. Paul’s Le er to the Romans. ALL ARE WELCOME. Please bring your Bible. For addi onal informa on, contact Deacon Michael at 288-3036 or michael.russo@atlan cbb.net . There will be NO Bible Study this Saturday, January 20th. Where: School Music Room When: 9:30-11:30 am (Saturdays) January 27th, February 3rd and 24th March 3rd, 10th, 24th, April 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th May 12th, 19th

HIGH SCHOOL CCD SCHEDULES: High School CCD Schedules for Winter have begun. If you have not yet registered for your classes, please do so immediately.

Liturgical Reflec on. . .

In today’s Gospel, John the Bap st points out Jesus, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” At every Mass the invita on to receive the Body and Blood of Christ begins with, “Behold the Lamb of God.” When one of our members dies, the Church especially encourages the celebra on of the Mass. The funeral liturgy is the central liturgical celebra on of the Chris an community for the deceased. As the deceased gathered weekly with the faith community in life, so in death the Chris an is commemorated at the Sacred Mysteries, calling upon God’s mercy.

John 1:35-42

Jesus’ ques on in today’s gospel is s ll valid today: “What are you looking for?” What do you want from your spouse, children or parents? Families are populated with imperfect people. To expect perfec on is unreal. To expect and accept imperfec on is wisdom.

Olympic athletes spend several thousand hours a year training. Doctors, surgeons, and nurses spend several years training. Training is helpful to not only learn par cular skills, but to prac ce and refine skills that have already been learned. The Holy Mass is something sacred, so serving at the Mass also requires some training and prac ce. There will be training for all altar servers today, Sunday, January 14th at 7:00pm at the Church. This is required training for

all altar servers. If you have been serving several years, you are expected to a end. This is also training for new altar servers, so if you have never served before, now is your chance to begin. Please a end with at least one parent / legal guardian. Please contact Fr. Crowe with any ques ons: 266-9718, Ext. 507. If you cannot a end, please contact Fr.
