Welcome to Christ Presbyterian Church

We’re so glad that you’re here. We hope that worshiping with us today nourishes your spirit and that you

will come back to worship with us again. Please be sure to sign the guest pad located at the end of your

pew so that we can follow up on your visit with us.

For our visitors with children: our Nursery (up to age 3) is open and available to you in our lower level

where our caring volunteers are ready to watch over your child. You can worship with peace of mind as

you will be given a pager so that you can be contacted immediately should you be needed.

Worship Activity Bags and activity sheets are located in the front of the Sanctuary for children to use.

An usher is able to help direct you if you need assistance.

Thank you for worshiping with us today.

The Order For Morning Worship

2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Prelude “Flute Sonata” Leonardo Vinci Dianne Williams, flute

Welcome & Worship Notes Call to Worship Leader: The one who calls you together this day yearns for each of you and for all people to hear and be blessed. People: Speak, Lord, for your servants are listening. 1 Samuel 3:9 Blessed is the One who comes bringing trustworthy words for the healing of the world. Speak, Lord, for your servants are listening. *Hymn in Procession No. 409 “God Is Here!”

*Prayer of the Day (in unison) You invite us, O God, to live in your ways, and you give us to each other to know and to love as we journey in this life. Show us your will for all creation. Help us to listen to your urgings with prayerful hearts so that we may honor what you have made, in the name of the holy Trinity, one God, now and forever. Amen. Call to Confession Assured that the One who calls us to hear and obey already knows the confessions of our hearts and is ready to forgive, let us confess our sin before God and before one another. Prayer of Confession (in unison) Holy God, you see into each of us and know us fully as creatures in need of your constant care. We confess that we have neither heard your word nor followed your will. We have failed our nation, neighbors, families, friends, and ourselves. Give us ears to hear your wisdom. Lead us to honesty and faith so that we may begin again with renewed strength; in Jesus name. Amen.

(Silence is observed for personal reflection.)

You have been made clean.

God strengthens you with freedom

You know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You trace my journeys and my resting-places and are acquainted with all my ways

REFRAIN

Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, but you, O Lord, know it altogether. You press upon me behind and before and lay your hand upon me.

REFRAIN

Where can I go then from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I climb up to heaven, you are there; if I make the grave my bed, you are there also.

REFRAIN

If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there your hand will lead me and your right hand hold me fast.

Training Update: Here is what our Stephen Ministers are studying

this week. Continue to pray for our Stephen Leaders and Stephen

Ministers as Stephen Minister training nears completion.

Session Sixteen——Bringing the Caring Relationship to a Close

Stephen Ministry relationships go on until the crisis is past, the need for care is diminished

(not necessarily completely over), and the care receiver is able to cope on his or her own. In

this session our Stephen Ministers explore how to know when it is time to bring closure to a

caring relationship—and how to do so in a healthy way.

News from Mission West: Mark your calendars! We have unfinished work on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Next summer’s dates for the drivers will be July 7-17 and flyers will be July 8-14. Please keep this ministry in your prayers. The Lord may be calling you to help in one of the many ways that is needed. Watch for more information in the coming weeks. If you already know you are planning to join the team to go, please contact Nancy Montgomery at 330-806-3288 or Becky Blackford at 330-575-0257. Last Chance to Purchase a Mission West Calendar! Thank you to everyone who has already purchased their 2018 Mission West calendars. Your continued support is greatly appreciated! Only a handful of calendars remain. If you are considering supporting Mission West by purchasing a 2018 calendar please visit Cloister Hall this Sunday. Calendars are only $15.00.

Scripture Readings for Sunday, January 21: Jonah 3:1-5, 10; Psalm 62:5-12; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31; Mark 1:14-20 Consider: Psalm 62 ends by saying, “God, you repay to all according to their work.” Some of us may find that statement unsettling. Would you rather have God treat you with the payment you deserve or with the grace that you hope for in Jesus Christ?

The Cathedral Hour broadcast on WHLO-640AM has many unsponsored Sundays. Its value to shut-ins, those unable to attend Church for various reasons, and also those without a Church home, has been invaluable over the years. Your continued support is needed to sponsor a complete program at a cost of $225.00 per Sunday. However, partial contributions are extremely important to the continued existence of this program, and it is to this end that we encourage you to consider contributions to the Cathedral Hour as part of your “above and beyond” support of our Church. Please call the Church office for available dates.

Tuesday, January 16, 11:30 am at Mulligan’s

For January and February, TAG is going out to eat! We will meet at

restaurants while the TAG chefs take a well deserved vaca,on. These lunches will also be easier to cancel in case it snows.

January’s TAG will be held at Mulligan’s Restaurant & Pub. Mulligan’s is located at 4118 Belden Village Street NW, across from Sears. Mulligan’s has quite a diverse menu, and you will

be able to order anything you’d like, and get an individual check. We will gather at 11:30 for a ,me of fellowship and gree,ng friends, with lunch at noon. In the event of bad weather, TAG will be cancelled if the Canton City Schools are closed for the day. Because

we will need to give the restaurant a headcount, please sign up no later than TODAY. Sign up at the kiosk or online. Thank you!

Saturday, January 27th 11:00am-1:00pm

Families are invited for a fun afternoon where parents (or grandparents or aunts or uncles or cousins or special grown up) and kids create a special project TOGETHER. Be sure to wear clothes that let you explore your artistic

side without worry! We’ll also be creating and naming our own sandwich creations for lunch and decorating cookie canvases for dessert! To confirm your attendance at this free event you must register by January 23rd either online, www.cantoncpc.org/eventregistration or by calling the church office at 330.456.8113. Invite your friends!

Salt Shakers—Round 3 Salt Shakers has a SOCIAL purpose of promoting fellowship at Christ Presbyterian Church. It seems that it is a success! People have said, “It was absolutely wonderful to get to know some people that I had previously just smiled at as they walked passed me.” Another member stated, “If we keep doing this I may really get to know more people!” So now we will start a new round! You can sign up at the kiosk or on line. Even if you have attended other events you have to sign up again! We found that CPC folks have busy schedules. So let’s sign up until Jan. 21. We will get the groups divided; you will have all of February for your group to meet. The only agenda for these dinners is to meet new people and strengthen our communal fellowship. We will come together with open minds and hearts in Christ to share in each other’s company. This is an opportunity to get to know each other. Don’t miss it!
