hannon Brown is an accomplised entrepreneur of many talents. Not only

is she an extraordinary busi-ness woman, she is also active in helping the community. She has taken the time to grace the cover of the magazine as well as give us an enchanting interview.

Jackson Expose: Shannon, tell us about your upbringing.

Shannon: I am originally from Charleston, SC and was raised by my grandparents. Attended South Carolina State University and received my B.S. in Psychology. I Received a M. ED in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Jackson Expose: Tell us, what inspired you to open Laces By Lexi.

Shannon: I decided to open my boutique because I love the fashion industry and dreamed of having my own business one day. I decided upon opening a lingerie shop because I simply love lingerie. I just love the way lingerie makes me feel. It makes me feel beautiful, sexy, empowered and confident all

s

InTerVIewwITh shannon brownowner of Laces by Lexi

at the same time. It allows me to embrace my curves for what they are. Lingerie has the abil-ity to allow a women to feel pampered and special. When you are in this mental space your self-esteem becomes elevated, which allows you to accept and love you for who you are.

Coming from the counsel-ing field, I have worked with numerous women who felt worthless due to physical, sex-ual and emotional abuse as well as other negative circum-stances and hardships. Some women find it hard to see beauty within themselves.

As women we are constantly burdened with the idea to look and be a certain way by the media. I wanted to create an experience with Laces by Lexi where women can embrace themselves and accept their differences. To feel confident and beautiful.

The Laces by Lexi experience includes personalized bra siz-ing, plus sizes, lingerie parties, private after hour shopping, special bridal party shopping day and bridal registry.

Jackson Expose: Define the Laces By Lexi Woman.

Mrs. Brown: The Laces by Lexi women is one who has a passion for life. She is beauti-ful, intelligent, bold and con-fident. She is classy, sophisti-cated and elegant. The Laces by Lexi woman comes in all shapes, sizes and races. She is universal. The Laces by Lexi woman is one that is driven.

Although she may have had some setbacks and challenges in life, she never gives up but keeps on striving to be her optimal best.

She is a mother, a wife, a sis-ter. She is an entrepreneur, home maker, teacher, stu-dent, doctor, an executive, and even a first lady. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it.

She is admired. She is a role model. The Laces by Lexi woman is a Godly woman with strong morals and val-ues. She loves and loves to be loved. She is me. She is you.

Jackson Expose: Describe the meaning of the Butterfly Logo.

Shannon: The Butterfly logo represents a transformation. It is the metamorphosis of a women who puts on Laces by Lexi. She sees her true beauty through unfamiliar eyes and now she is a very confident new woman ready to take on the world.

Jackson Expose: Introduce your models:

Shannon: I held a casting call to select the 2013-2014 Laces by Lexi Butterfly models to repre-sent the Laces by Lexi woman. In being a Butterfly, they attend Laces by Lexi events and industry functions. They also are given the opportunity to participate in the company’s ad campaign which includes a professional photo shoot, bill-board exposure (County Line Rd and Ridgewood Rd) and being featured in this maga-zine.

The Butterflies will also give back to the community and focus on issuses which affect women such as Breast Cancer awareness. We are also pro-viding Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to two local women and children’s shelters for the holidays.

It is so important to give back and help our sister’s who are experiencing unfortunate cir-cumstances. Our Spokes Model is Allayna Marie Streeter. She is an international model in her own right and a beauti-ful young lady with a beauti-ful spirit. She lives by Mark 9:23 “If you can? Said Jesus?

“Everything is possible for one who believes.”

We also have the beauti-ful and the lovely Angel Lee, Maura Moed, Zeporah Williams, Sherrell Jones, Jamelda Taylor, Ella Bennet, Angelique Woodard, Marika Ross and Victoria Johnson. I am so blessed to have such loyal and dedicated ladies to represent Laces by Lexi. I am very proud of them and am most grateful.

My strength and drives comes from God my Father.”

Jackson Expose’: Shannon, tell us about your drive and motivation dispite your per-sonal obstacles. (Lupus)

Shannon: My strength and drives comes from God my Father. It was Him who gave me the vision and the word that said move. I was not initially obedient trying to do my own thing without pray-ing about it. He kept nudging me to stop what I had chosen to do and be obedient to him and so I did.

Indeed I was afraid especially with having the diagnosis of Lupus. I did not want to run the risk of getting sick and being hospitalized but because of His stripes I am healed! I walked out on faith and he has blessed my every step.

My family has been my rock. I am so thankful to my husband for the support, my three chil-dren who bring me joy, and my mother, Delores Knight,

who has given me the image of a strong, driven woman with the utmost professional-ism.

As a child I would spend my summers in New York with her and I would watch her get dressed in the morning in her business suits and heels and head out to work in that jungle, brief case in hand with her hair and makeup fierce. She gave me my since of style, fashion and savvy that I carry today.

Jackson Expose’: Tell us about some of the organiza-tions you are a part of.

Shannon: I am a member of the Madison-Gluckstadt Rotary Club, New Jerusalem Church Counseling Ministy Leader and founder, Yoga and Pilates instructor for the She-Deciples Girls Club for inner city girls, Mrs. Madison America 2009 and Mrs. Madison County America 2010, Who’s Who in Black Mississippi 2012 sec-ond Edition and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Beta Delta Omega Chapter. In addition, I have given countless hours and years serving the Cure Sickle Cell Foundation.

Jackson Expose’: Tell me about your family.

Shannon: I am Married to Dr. Samuel F. Brown, I have a son, Samuel, who is 16, my daugh-ter, Alexia, is 13 & Antonio 2yrs old.. Laces by Lexi is named after my daughter Alexia. We call her Lexi.

The Facts aboutobama Care

from the editor

Jackson Expose’: Now that Obama Care is here to stay, do you think that it will be helpful to the residents of Mississippi?

Jeffrey Chance: It has already been helpful. People from Mississippi with Medicare have already saved nearly $58 million on prescription drugs because of the Affordable Care Act. In addition, up to 37,000 young adults have been able to stay on their parents health insurance until they are 26 years old.

Jackson Expose’: Are their any new benefits to Mississippians?

Jeffrey Chance: Obama Care will be trans-formative. Over 500,000 uninsured and eligible Mississippians will now have access to affordable health care. Even if they have preexisting conditions like cancer, diabetes, or kidney disease. And the cov-erage will have no insurance caps; meaning that the insur-ance companies cannot stop funding treatment because of some predetermined cash allot-ment that has been exhausted. This protects families from going bankrupt just because they get sick.

Jackson Expose’: Will preven-tive care be part of the pro-gram?

Jeffrey Chance: Absolutely. Preventive care will be includ-ed in Obama Care. Children will even have access to dental care with Obama Care?

Jackson Expose’: How will applicants be able to apply?

Jeffrey Chance: Applicants will be able to apply by mail, by phone, or by internet.

Jackson Expose’: Will insur-ance agents be able assist applicants in obtaining Obama Care, and how does it work?

Jeffrey Chance: Sure. Most insurance agents will assist applicants through the internet application process. Health Insurance premiums will be based on the median nation-al income for individuals and families. The electronic appli-cation will verify the applicants identity, income and eligibility for subsidies and tax credits. Then it will list the applicant’s premium amount, if any.“)
