ayoral candiate chokwe lumumba reveals his plans to bring a boom to

Jackson’s economy and more.

EMOJ: what motivated you to run for mayor for the city of Jackson?

Councilman Lumumba: Jackson is at a crossroads. we have a predominantly black population and pre-dominantly black leader-ship. many cities with the same make up have stumbled due to declin-ing infrastructure, flight of tax payers from the city, and problems with crime and education. it is our time to demonstrate we can defeat this problem and build a prosperous and secure city for all who live here and all who migrate here. we must

councilman chokwe lumumba, candidate for mayor of the city of Jackson shares insights as to economic develop-ment, education, and how to crack down on crime.

revitalize our infrastructure. we must expand urban renewal districts to facilitate investments, lower interest rates on bonds and to allow other inducements for devel-opment. we have not seen this kind of development ‘around town’ opposed to ‘downtown.’

the national economy is mov-ing south. the north is being depopulated because of high prices - people are relocating to the south. for example, the automotive industry in the north is experiencing severe problems.

places like charlotte n. c. and atlanta are the biggest bene-factors of the new southern economy. Jackson is not get-ting its share because there is not an aggressive effort to capture business and people.

we must accomplish these things with an understand-ing of leadership. leadership is collective and responsive to the people. it is not the possession of a single indi-vidual or a “clique” of people. leadership arises from the

people and must be respon-sive to the people.

EMOJ: I have heard you speak about turning HWY 18 and HWY 49 into Urbon Empowerment Zones like Lakeland Drive. How do you plan to do that?

Councilman Lumumba: this requires the city council to look at credible evidence that hwY 18 is in decline and to vote it as urban renewal Zone. this would mean lower interest rates for investments.

there is a level of affluence in that area that would support the new development. there are several well off neighbor-hoods in that area that would support the new develop-ments (i.e. carriage hill, cedar hill, willow wood, brook hollow).

along hwY 49 there are affluent areas that are still populated by a lot of peo-ple who can support new development in that area (i.e. lakeover, woodhaven, woodlea, presidential hills, richwood estates, Valley north, northgate).

EMOJ: In terms of minority par-ticipation in City contracts, how would you do things differently and why?

Councilman Lumumba:i have already been doing things differently. You might have noticed that i am always asking the question of wheth-er the contracts meet the ebo minority requirements.

the population of Jackson is 80% black but the percent-age of minority participation required by city contracts is only 8%. that is ridiculous considering that Jackson is a population made of 80% of blacks. the requirement should be at least 50% of minority participation consid-ering that 80% of the taxes being paid in the city are paid by blacks.

out of 100% of the businesses in the city of Jackson only 15% are owned by blacks and black businesses receive less than 1% of the overall busi-ness profit being made by businesses in Jackson.

(continued from page 7)

EMOJ: What kinds of things could your administration do differently to fight crime?

Councilman Lumumba: take the economic life out of crime. in other words, take the economic incen-tive out of crime. when people do not have jobs or education, they are most likely to get involved in crime. we need an infrastructure revolution that creates jobs and training programs. we need to return vocational training to high schools. this will help prepare kids for jobs.

we also need to kill the culture of crime with the help of churches and commu-nity organizations to teach better values.

we also need the police department to focus on serious crimes rather than to use politics to make appearances of crime fighting such as excessive police check points on the streets.

EMOJ: What is your overall vision for Jackson? Councilman Lumumba:

my goal is to have one city, one aim, one Destiny. it is not my goal to just empower black people and make white people suffer. it is my goal to bring about a balance.

She has also written a book called “It All Starts From Something” set to debut in April of 2013.

Felicia’s life is pretty busy and she loves it that way. She always had a dream to succeed and to be something great. Though many obstacles got in her way early in her journey, she was able to indure, and with God’s help push through.

Ms. Tillman says she is looking to be ranked in the best of the best one day, seeing that she is her own competition most the times.

Her motto is: I will succeed, I will achieve, with God I can do anything. Gearing up for greatness is key for me.

althouth i predicted that thieir divorce was in the pipeline, porsha stewart claims that she did not see it coming.

porsha revealed that she had no idea cordell was going to file for divorce. however many people are not surprised due to cordell’s exe-treme controlling image on the show.

Apparently the divorce has taken a nasty turn. It was rumored that Cordell moved anther woman into the house. Porsha is petitioning the court to regain access to the upscale home.

back when porsha first joined the reality show, she appeared on the wendy williams show. at that time wendy asked porsha why she would be a part of the Housewives of Atlanta reality show which would eventu-ally break up her marriage. porsha seemed oblivious to the fact.

there have been several couples who have split up since appearing on rhoa. the problem is that if there are any problems in a couple’s marriage, those problems will be magnified a hundred times because everybody is watching and talking.

Other couples on the show who divorced:

Left: Former NBA baller Eric Snow & DeShawn Snow.

Right: Lisa Wu & former NFL baller Ed Hartwell
