IVÁN FERRER-OROZCO
Iván Ferrer-Orozco (Mexico City, 1976) is a composer, sound artist and arts
entrepreneur. His strong interest on new media and new technologies has led his
works and projects to evolve from a more narrative approach, to be conceived as
experiences in which elements as sound, territory, new media and space are shaped
to unveil concepts (not as ideas but as facts personally experienced) related with
memory, sensual reaction and intuition, to challenge our perception. His musical
pieces and installations are conceived as acoustic and physical spaces created to test
our senses, mind and subjectivity while they pretend to be meaningful experiences
for the public. Sound and space are carefully shaped within thoroughly planned
structures, to stir public’s intuition so it becomes a way in which the world is
consciously experienced beyond the language.
His music and sound art works have been presented at several concert series,
festivals and exhibitions in Mexico, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Chile, South Korea,
Germany, Italy, Cyprus and USA. He has been guest composer at the Conservatory of
Music of Montreal and resident composer of the Contemporary Ensemble of
Montreal. Since 2003 he has been artist in residence at MacDowell Colony, VCCA,
I-Park and Djerassi in USA; Camargo Foundation in France, Hooyong Performing Arts
Center in South Korea, Arts Center of San Luis Potosi in Mexico; Residencia de
Estudiantes in Spain, Schleswig-Holstein Artists Residency in Germany, and Conseil
des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec in Canada. Iván is director and producer of
InterAcciona, platform for art creation and new media; musician, producer and coder
at NEOPERCUSION ensemble; arts consultant at Acelerador de Artistas Consulting,
and lecturer on digital arts and experience design at IED Madrid, Spain.
