MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

Last month we took over Te-Irirangi. Principally this was due to the Franchisee not meeting

expectations and our requirement to protect the Night ‘n Day brand. I have discussed the

need to maintain our standards many times as this has a direct impact on you all. While we

did not want the store back we assumed ownership and have run the store until a new

purchaser is found.

It is also a good time to welcome Jagwinder Singh and Sukhvinder Kaur who purchased the

Henderson store in Auckland. It’s farewell from the North Island to Matt and Alice but with the

Mornington store still owned by Matt and Alice they obviously remain in the group.

Also welcome to Vijnesh and Savita Lal who purchased New Lynn. New Lynn was a company

owned store leaving us with just three company owned store with Swanson the only store

remaining for sale.

It should also be noted Karina is no longer associated with Green Island with Antony

remaining the sole director and franchisee for the store.

In terms of personnel from the support centres there have been a couple of changes. Kamilla

is leaving for the bright lights of Auckland. Kamilla has been with us nearly 2 years and has

brought many marketing initiatives into play that we are very proud of. Lorraine McGuiness is

also moving on after 3 years with us. Lorraine was heavily involved in the roll out of the North

Island stores and in managing company owned stores. Both finish 30 May and we wish them

well with their next step.

It is pleasing to welcome Mike Lee who comes in as North Island Franchise Manager. Mike

has been learning the systems and about Night ‘n Day over the last month and will have met

all North Island franchisees by the end of this week. Mike brings a wealth of experience to the

group and we look forward to the contribution he will make.

Over the last month I have had some good discussions with franchisees and gained some

worthwhile perspectives on some of the issues that we all face. I will be working on some

further information and responses to questions over the next month but have really

appreciated the positive and constructive feedback.

My take on the Sundae’s was it provided a huge boost to the Night ‘n Day brand. I understood

and hopefully addressed the majority of the concerns as I did feel the majority really

embraced and saw the benefit in the promotion. Although the pie promotion did not get the

same reaction it is achieving the strategy of getting our products and brand out there. I

believe it is too early to judge the effect this will have but I certainly look forward to the future

promotions and a corresponding increase in sales. It would appear sales have increased and

even excluding the effect of Easter sales are up.

As always, I look forward to your feedback and responses to what we do and how we do it.

After Hour Calls

Due to the volume of non urgent calls being received after normal hours we have

drawn up the following guide to assist with what is deemed an urgent after hours call:

1. If your store is unable to trade – Gull for pumps, Night ‘n Day for POS

2. If there is a matter that will have severe consequences if it is not dealt with before

normal hours resume

3. To advise if there has been an armed hold up

It is always an advantage at store level to have after hour numbers available for

problems with suppliers or contractors to handle issues that are urgent after hours.

Example of an after hour call that was deemed to be urgent:

“My point of sale has been slow for a week can you help fix it at 10pm on a

Saturday evening”

Also please remember you should be aware of whom you should contact for urgent

after hour calls:

Denise B for North Island

Damon for South Island

If they are unable to assist they will contact the next person in line to assist. Also

remember they are unable to answer calls if they are travelling it might be out of zone

or dealing with another issue. If this happens where possible give the person a

reasonable time to ring back before taking another option. Recently we had five

people dealing with a store after hours on the same issue from leaving messages on

everyone’s phone without the store advising other were already assisting. Our team is

happy to assist any store with urgent after hour calls but consideration needs to be

given to if this is required as it is their personal time.

I’d like to take this opportunity to inform you that I have resigned from my position

with Night ‘n Day. My last day is 30th May. I’ll be moving to the big smoke the

following week. Thank you all for your support to the marketing department on the

last two years I have enjoyed working for Night ‘n Day. We created some great

promotions during my time here. I wish you all the best for your store and for the

Auckland stores I’ll make sure that I pop in from time to time to get a Sundae :-). If

you want to keep in touch you can find me on Linkedin.

Thank you very much for everything :-)
