The last event of the Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth promises to be a true “grand fi nale” – sort of like those gala balls, where, even if you danced a score of “strong” pieces over the evening, you are still hoping to spend the last of your energies in a fi nal waltz. And speaking of energy, all F4 competitors have showed to have incredible stamina all year long and with their professionalism they have added prestige to a series that over a single season has already become one of the nicest and most promising competitions of international motorsport .So let the “last dance” begin, with trumpets resounding mightily and the fi rst violins leading the orchestra. The curtain is about to go down on the 2014 season, but behind the scenes everyone is already busy at work to produce an even sweeter music for many more protagonists next year. Music, maestro!

L’ultimo appuntamento con l’F4 Italian Championship Powered by Abarth si preannuncia come un “gran fi nale”. Un po’ come quei balli di gala in cui, nonostante si siano ballati un’infi nità di “pezzi forti” durante la serata, si aspetta sempre l’ultimo giro di valzer per dar fondo a tutte le proprie energie rimaste. E di energie, durante l’anno, tutti i protagonisti dell’F4 hanno dimostrato di averne una gran riserva, nobilitando con la loro professionalità quella che, nell’arco di una sola stagione, si è già affermata come una delle realtà più belle e promettenti del motorsport internazionale.E, allora, che “ultimo giro di valzer” sia. Con le trombe a squillare potenti e i primi violini a condurre l’orchestra. Il sipario è pronto a calare sulla stagione 2014, ma dietro le quinte si sta già lavorando alacremente per proporre una musica ancora migliore e con più protagonisti al prossimo anno. In the fi rst race of the Monza weekend, Mattia Drudi takes a fantastic win ahead of Stroll and Russo. At the start, it is Brandon Maisano (Prema Power Team) who surprises everyone, with teammate Lance Stroll behind him, after a pass on Mattia Drudi (Adria Raceway by Malta). The Italian then hands two more places to rookie Sennan Fielding (Euronova Racing by Fortec Italian Motorsport) and Andrea Russo (Antonelli Motorsport). Shortly after the race gets “neutralized” by Takashi Kasai (Prema Power Team), who rear-ends Leonardo Pulcini (DAV Racing) and Robert Shwartzman (Cram Motorsport) and ends up in the hospital (thankfully without severe injuries). When the race resumes, Russo slides in third ahead of Fielding and Stroll takes the lead from Maisano. For the rest of the race the Canadian resists up front, until Russo manages a limit pass. Yet, it’s not all said and done. In fact, 2 laps from the end Stroll attacks, touches Russo and... Drudi on the rebound gets past and wins!

Mattia Drudi vince una fantastica gara 1 a Monza, davanti a Stroll e Russo. Al via è Brandon Maisano (Prema Power Team) che sorprende tutti, con il compagno Lance Stroll dietro, dopo aver infi lato Mattia Drudi (Adria Raceway by Malta). L’italiano cede poi altre due posizioni all’esordiente Sennan Fielding (Euronova Racing by Fortec Italian Motorsport) e ad Andrea Russo (Antonelli Motorsport). La gara, però, viene poi neutralizzata per via di Takashi Kasai (Prema Power Team) che tampona il rimontante Leonardo Pulcini (DAV Racing) e Robert Shwartzman (Cram Motorsport) e fi nisce all’ospedale, per fortuna senza conseguenze gravi. Quando la gara riprende, Russo s’infi la subito terzo su Fielding e Stroll prende il comando su Maisano. Per il resto della gara il canadese resiste gli attacchi da chi lo segue, fi nchè Russo riesce in un sorpasso al limite. Non è detto tutto, però. Infatti, a 2 giri dalla fi ne Stroll piazza l’affondo, si tocca con Russo... e tra i due litiganti è il terzo Drudi, in rimonta che gode!

Drudi continues to dominate in Race 2, surviving the fl urry of contacts and accidents that took out 6 rivals at the go (including Brandon Maisano, Andrea Russo and Leonardo Pulcini). In fact, despite starting from P10 (the second race starts with the grid inversion of the Top 10 of Race 1), Drudi steers clear of chaos in lap 1 and catches up to Sennan Fielding, who competes for the F4 Trophy, and Andrea Fontana (both Euronova Racing by Fortec Italia Motorsport). As the race continues, Lance Stroll (Prema Power Team) gets “dragged” along by Drudi, but fails to catch Fielding’s slipstream to attempt a pass, so he closes second. Alain Valente (Jenzer Motorsport) rounds off the podium, doing a great job of fending off the attacks of hard-charging Robert Shwartzman (Cram Motorsport). The Russian started from the rear, after his Race 1 withdrawal, but rose nicely past Indian rival Mahaveer Raghunathan (F&M) and his followers, Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) and Edi Haxhiu (Cram Motorsport).

È sempre Drudi il dominatore di Monza, in una gara 2 contraddistinta dai contatti e dagli incidenti che mettono fuori pista ben 6 piloti subito dopo il via (tra cui Brandon Maisano, Andrea Russo and Leonardo Pulcini). Nonostante la partenza dalla decima piazza (dovuta alla griglia invertita per la top 10 di gara 1), l’italiano sta lontano dal caos del primo giro e riprende il duo di Sennan Fielding, che corre per il Trofeo F4, e Andrea Fontana (entrambi Euronova Racing by Fortec Italia Motorsport). Drudi si “trascina” dietro Stroll (Prema Power Team) che però non riesce a prendere la scia di Fielding per provare un attacco e chiude così secondo. Alain Valente (Jenzer Motorsport) completa il podio, contenendo gli attacchi di uno scatenato Robert Shwartzman (Cram Motorsport). Il russo, eliminato in gara 1, partiva dal fondo e riesce in una grande rimonta, mettendosi alle spalle l’indiano Mahaveer Raghunathan (F&M) e gli inseguitori Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) ed Edi Haxhiu (Cram Motorsport).

Mattia Drudi (Adria Raceway by Malta) proves to be simply unbeatable in Monza and sweeps his third victory of the weekend. At the start, Lance Stroll (Prema Power Team) and Sennan Fielding (Euronova Racing by Fortec Italia Motorsport) clash and are forced to retire. When the safety car leaves the track, Drudi snatches the lead from Brandon Maisano (Prema Power Team) and pulls away, leaving him to fi ght with Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) and Andrea Fontana (Euronova Racing by Fortec). In the end, Fontana is the one who gets the worst of it: a contact forces him to pull out to replace his nose panel. In the meantime, Andrea Russo (Antonelli Motorsport) has come up like a madman from the rear: when the race re-started he quickly charged up to fourth place behind the pack of Drudi, Maisano, Vieira and Alain Valente (Jenzer Motorsport) and this is where he stays until the end. Teammate Matteo Desideri follows him at the fi nish-line, with Ivan Matveev (SMP Racing by Euronova) and Robert Shwartzman (Cram Motorsport) in tow.

Mattia Drudi a Monza è imbattibile e vince anche in gara 3. Allo start Lance Stroll (Prema Power Team) entra in contatto con Sennan Fielding (Euronova Racing by Fortec Italia Motorsport). Risultato? Gara fi nita per entrambi e safety car in pista. Alla ripartenza Mattia Drudi (Adria Raceway by Malta) sorpassa Brandon Maisano (Prema Power Team), sfi la via e allunga. Dietro è bagarre tra Maisano, Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) e Andrea Fontana (Euronova Racing by Fortec). Tra questi è l’ultimo ad avere la peggio: fa contatto con un avversario e deve rientrare ai box per sostituire il musetto. Nel frattempo Andrea Russo (Antonelli Motorsport) ha fatto una bella rimonta dal fondo: alla ripartenza si era subito portato in quarta posizione dietro a Drudi, Maisano, Vieira e Alain Valente (Jenzer Motorsport) ed è qui che rimane fi no al termine della gara. Alle spalle la spuntano il compagno di squadra Matteo Desideri, seguito da Ivan Matveev (SMP Racing by Euronova) e Robert Shwartzman (Cram Motorsport).

The Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth has wrapped up in the best of all possible ways, true; but it’s no time to stand still. On the November 2nd weekend, in conjunction with the international WSK Final Cup (which is set to take place in a brand new facility), the Adria International Raceway will host the Adria Winter Cup, a one-off challenge to show, once again, how fast the F4 is!

L’Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth è fi nito nei migliori dei modi, è vero, ma non è certo tempo di stare fermi. Nel week end del 2 novembre, in concomitanza con l’evento internazionale di karting WSK Final Cup (che si correrà in un nuovissimo kartodromo), l’Adria International Raceway ospiterà l’Adria Winter Cup. Una manifestazione a gara unica per far capire, ancora una volta, quanto va veloce questa F4!

IL PRIMO RE DELLA STORIA331 punti è il bottino che ha totalizzato nell’arco di sei round. Lance Stroll è riuscito nell’impresa, non facile, di vincere il campionato con ben due week end d’anticipo. Il canadese è il primo campione dell’Italian F4 Powered by Abarth. Pronosticato da molti come il pilota da battere, il quindicenne della Prema Power Team è riuscito a confermare le voci di chi lo voleva favorito. Sin dall’esordio in questa competizione il ragazzo ha dimostrato di avere qualcosa in più e questo riconoscimento, a conti fatti, sembrerebbe qualcosa di quanto mai meritato. Sulle fi n qui 18 gare disputate Lance Stroll è riuscito a vincerne 10 e per 2 volte ha raggiunto la piazza d’onore. Numeri da fenomeno? Forse, per ora sono bastati a farlo trionfare e primeggiare contro tutti gli avversari. Complimenti!

THE FIRST KING IN HISTORYHe collected a full bounty of 331 points after six rounds. Lance Stroll succeeded in the challenging feat of winning the championship two weekends before the end. The Canadian is the fi rst champion of the Italian F4 Powered by Abarth. Given by many as the man to beat, the fi fteen year old Prema Power Team driver confi rmed the predictions of those who named him as favorite. Ever since his debut in the race series, the kid proved to have something more than his opponents and, results at hand, his triumph speaks of a well-deserved accomplishment. Out of 18 races contended so far, Lance Stroll took 10 wins and closed second 2 times. Can we announce a phenomenon on the rise? Perhaps, so far he has been able to triumph and beat the competition. Congratulations!

Un’innovativa ed interessante apparecchiatura ha debuttato nel penultimo turno dell’Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth. Predisposto dal responsabile di Panta Racing Fuel Giovanni Cristofanelli, il gas-cromatografo è uno strumento in grado di analizzare il carburante a fondo. Dai campioni prelevati da ciascuna vettura, al termine di ogni sessione uffi ciale, il carburante viene fatto passare attraverso i condotti del gas-cromatografo, capace di separare i vari elementi chimici di cui è composta la benzina. In questa operazione vengono analizzate le evaporazioni dei singoli composti, per defi nire la composizione della miscela con assoluta certezza. La percentuale degli elementi presenti, riportata su un grafi co, deve corrispondere esattamente al campione di riferimento della fornitura Panta, che per la F.4 rende disponibili sui circuiti, in ogni appuntamento, quantità di carburante tra 1500 e 2500 litri. Il regolamento ammette solo il carburante uffi ciale fornito dall’azienda di Bagnolo Cremasco. Perciò ogni variazione delle componenti dà l’avvio a una procedura di non conformità. I motori forniti da Abarth sono stati sviluppati con il carburante Panta 102 ottani, con aggiunta dei componenti necessari per i motori turbo. Benzine differenti possono provocare un calo di rendimento del propulsore, fi no a renderne necessaria la sostituzione. L’ispezione permette di evidenziare l’utilizzo di benzine differenti, con rischio di costi o anche sanzioni verso il team che se ne fosse reso responsabile.

Lo strumento gas-cromatografi co per l’analisi del carburante visto a Monza è stato introdotto da Panta, fornitore uffi ciale del campionato, per garantire l’uniformità tecnica.

On the penultimate round of the season, the Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth introduced an innovative and interesting fuel inspection instrument, made available by the manager of Panta Racing Fuel Giovanni Cristofanelli. The gas chromatography tool we saw in Monza allows to analyze fuel composition in depth. Samples are collected from each vehicle at the end of each offi cial race session and are then processed through the instrument, which breaks down the fuel mix into its different chemical components. An analysis of the evaporation fumes of each compound element allows to establish the exact composition of the mix. The percentages of all elements is recorded and “translated” into a graph and then compared with the values of the offi cial sample of Panta fuel prescribed by championship regulations. The series, in fact, requires competitors to rely strictly on the fuel supplies provided by the Italian company (based in Bagnolo Cremasco), which range between 1500 and 2500 liters for each race weekend. Any variation registered through the gas chromatography analysis process thus automatically justifi es a case of non-compliance. The Abarth engines that power the series have been developed based on 102 octane Panta fuel mixed with additional components required for turbo motors and any composition that varies from this can compromise engine performance and even cause breakdowns. The inspection process thus verifi es if any team is deviating from prescribed behavior, foreseeing fees and sanctions in case of non-compliance.

The value in euros of the prize purse: 40,000 are destined to the F4 Champion and 10,000 to the winner of the F4 Trophy, the “series inside the series” dedicated to competitors who are over 18.

Solo due piloti sono riusciti, fi no ad ora, a dominare un round dall’ inizio alla fi ne. Questi incredibili tris l’hanno compiuti Lance Stroll a Vallelunga e Mattia Drudi a Monza. Non a caso i due sono primo e secondo nella classifi ca di campionato entrando in quest’ ultima tappa.

So far, only two drivers have managed to sweep a full round from start to fi nish. The triple-whammy setters are Lance Stroll (Vallelunga) and Mattia Drudi (Monza). Not perchance the two are also the fi rst and second in the title hunt coming into this last round.

Like the minimum age required to race in the Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth. The age limit, instead, is set at 18, because the new open-wheel series aims to “attract” young karting talents and help them step into the world of formula racing.
