Pride and satisfaction, these are the emotions that surround the new international motorsport inititative by the Italian Automobile Club. I am proud that the Italian federation, which I preside, was the fi rst in the world to develop the Formula 4 project. Not only, we are also extremely satisfi ed for the great number of teams and drivers that are taking part in this inaugural edition. This great turn-out is as much fruit of the efforts of the federation’s sporting division as of the professional expertise guaranteed by Luca De Donno and WSK. I also want to thank Jean Todt, Gerhard Berger and all their FIA colleagues, as well as the key partners in this adventure, Abarth, Pirelli and Tatuus. The time has now come now to let engines rumble and make the track alive with excitement.

Orgoglio e soddisfazione sono i sentimenti che accompagnano la nuova iniziativa dell’Automobile Club nel motorsport internazionale. Come Presidente della federazione italiana dell’automobilismo sportivo sono orgoglioso che siamo stati i primi a realizzare il progetto Formula 4. A questo legittimo orgoglio va aggiunta la soddisfazione di essere riusciti a mettere in pista un numero straordinario di piloti e team. Merito del grande lavoro dell’uffi cio sportivo della federazione, così come della professionalità di Luca De Donno e di WSK. Doveroso poi è ringraziare Jean Todt, Gerhard Berger e tutti gli uomini della FIA, così come Abarth, Pirelli e Tatuus, partner fondamentali di questa impresa. Un nuovo, fantastico, inizio. È quello che celebriamo oggi, al primo appuntamento di una serie che, per tutte le persone coinvolte, è un sogno che prende forma. Lo è per la WSK, che, dalle prime gare del 2006, è cresciuta fi no ad organizzare le competizioni CIK-FIA e, ora, si affaccia al mondo delle monoposto. The only round outside of Italy, this marks the grand fi nale. Opened in ‘91, the circuit is home to both Moto GP and F1 races. Barcelona is about 20 km north-east: a must-see destination for anyone who wants some “off track” thrills.

DESIGNER FORMULABY TATUUSThe new single-seater is a creation of the Concorezzo (MB) based “studio” where the Italian company has been designing and creating race vehicles since 1980. The new F4 car by Tatuus is a FIA-homologated carbon-fi ber monocoque with anti-intrusion panels “dressed” in a glass-fi ber body. Una monoposto ideata dall’ “atelier” di Concorezzo (MB) dove dal 1980 l’azienda italiana realizza veicoli dedicati al motorsport. RULES AND PRIZES

The Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth was created to help young drivers take their fi rst steps from karting into the world of real formula racing. The Championship is reserved to athletes who are 15 to 18 years old, with no limitation in terms of nationality. Participation on track is also open to drivers who are 18 and over, but they will contend a dedicated ttitle: the ACI-CSAI Formula 4 Trophy.The inaugural edition of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth runs over 7 rounds (6 in Italy and 1 in Spain), each of which features 2 qualifying sessions and 3 races: the fi rst and third race each last 28 minutes + 1 lap, while the middle race will be 18 minutes + 1 lap long. The fi rst qualifying session will defi ne the starting line-up for Race 1. The order of arrival in this race will, in turn, determine the grid for Race 2, with the inversion of the top 10 drivers. The second qualifying session will, instead, decide the start order for Race 3.

At each round, championship points will be assigned to the top 10 drivers of the “long” races (the fi rst and third) and the top 8 drivers of the “short” race (the second), according to the scale reported in the table to the side. In addition, fi ve points will be assigned to the overall fastest driver of the qualifying phase and one point will go to the author of the best lap of each race. The title winner of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth will be awarded 40,000 euro and, along with the vice-champion, will be participate to the High Speed Supercourse at the ACI CSAI Federal School in Vallelunga at the end of the season. A prize of 10,000 euro, instead, awaits the “18 and over” winner of the F4 Trophy. In short, the series gurantaees an intense format and a rich prize purse fi t for its ambitious mission, that of supporting young talents in their transition from the world of international karting to the challenging universe of single-seaters.

L’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth è un campionato per giovani piloti che, fi nita l’esperienza nel karting, vogliono provare a cimentarsi in un contesto di monoposto vere. Il campionato è riservato ai piloti nella fascia di età tra i 15 e i 18 anni, senza limitazione alcuna per quanto riguarda la nazionalità. La partecipazione in campo è aperta anche ai piloti “over 18”, ma per loro è in lizza un titolo dedicato: il Trofeo ACI-CSAI Formula 4.L’edizione inaugurale dell’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth si articola su 7 round (6 in Italia e uno in Spagna), ognuno caratterizzato da 2 sessioni di qualifi ca e 3 gare: la prima e la terza avranno la durata di 28’ + 1 giro, mentre la gara intermedia sarà di 18’ + 1 giro. Sarà il primo turno di prove uffi ciali ad esprimere la griglia di partenza di Gara 1. L’ordine di arrivo di questa, a sua volta, deciderà la griglia di Gara 2, con l’inversione dei primi 10 piloti. Il secondo turno di qualifi che detterà, invece, l’ordine di partenza di Gara 3.

Ad ogni round, saranno i primi 10 piloti delle gare “lunghe” (la prima e terza) e i primi 8 piloti della gara “corta” (la seconda) a ricevere punti verso il campionato, secondo la scala riportata nella tabella qui di seguito. Cinque punti saranno, inoltre, assegnati all’autore del miglior tempo assoluto delle prove uffi ciali e un punto andrà al pilota che fa registrare il giro veloce in ogni gara.Il campione dell’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth riceverà un premio di 40.000 euro e, insieme al vice-campione, a fi ne stagione parteciperà al Supercorso di Alta Velocità della Scuola Federale di Vallelunga. Sarà, invece, di 10.000 euro il premio del vincitore “18 and over” del Trofeo F4. Insomma, il campionato offre un format intenso e un ricco montepremi che mirano a rifl ettere l’ambiziosa missione di accompagnare i giovani talenti nel delicato passaggio dal mondo del karting internazionale all’universo competitivo delle monoposto.

Born close to Lecce, Italy, where he founded WSK Promotion, with his organizational talent he has revolutionized the world of international karting. He is now looking forward to sharing all his “know how” through this new racing adventure called F4.

A capo della WSK Promotion grazie al suo senso dell’organizzazione è riuscito a rivoluzionare il mondo del karting internazionale. Nato in provincia di Lecce ora, grazie a questa nuova avventura marchiata F4 di cui è promotore, vuole provare a trasmettere tutto il suo “mestiere” al mondo delle monoposto.

LUCA DE DONNOWSK PROMOTION

Born in Sternatia, close to Lecce, Italy, he is the President of the Italian Automobile Club. A civil engineer, his resume includes prestigious roles with other national sporting institutions like ANAS, CONI and FIA.

Nato a Sternatia vicino a Lecce è Presidente dell’Automobil Club Italia. Laureato in ingegneria civile ha ricoperto incarichi di prestigio in contesti come ANAS, CONI e FIA.

ANGELO STICCHI DAMIANIACI

Born in Pierrefort, France in 1946, he is President of the FIA. Before this important role, he was CEO and Managing Director of the Scuderia Ferrari team. He also has past experience as a rally co-driver.

Nato a Pierrefort in Francia nel 1946 è il Presidente della FIA. Vanta esperienze in orbita Ferrari, dove è stato amministratore delegato e direttore generale della Scuderia Ferrari. Nel suo passato anche il mondo dei rally, ma come copilota.

JEAN TODTFIA

Ex F1 driver (Arrows, Ferrari, McLaren, Benetton), he is the FIA Single Seater Commission President and the FIA referent for the F4 project. As he explains: “This year is an important fi rst step. We are following its development attentively and the FIA will lend all its support to the CSAI, especially where sporting and technical equity and communication are concerned.”

Ex pilota di F1 di Arrows, Ferrari, McLaren e Benetton. In FIA è “Single Seater Commission President” e persona chiave del progetto F4. Ha dichiarato: “Quest’anno è la prima importante fase. Stiamo seguendo il suo sviluppo attentamente e la FIA darà supporto alla CSAI”.

Today he is the general Product Manager of Pirelli’s Motorsport division, but he joined the famous Italian tire company back 1996 as manager of the rally sector, a role he covered until 2008.

In Pirelli ricopre il ruolo di Product Manager Motorsport. Nell’azienda italiana collabora dal 1996 quando è stato il principale responsabile nel contesto pneumatici legate al mondo del rally. Ruolo che ha coperto fi no al 2008.

CEO of Tatuus, an iconic name when it comes to the development and creation of chassis for motorsport vehicles.

È il CEO della Tatuus, azienda icona per quanto riguarda la produzione e la vendita di telai destinati all’industria del motorsport.

His title is “Head of Brand ABARTH EMEA Region” and in the past he worked for Maserati. He joined Abarth in 2012 as “Marketing Director 500 & Brand’s New Strategy Initiative” when he was in Ferrari’s “orbit”.

È “Head of Brand ABARTH EMEA Region”, ha lavorato in passato in Maserati. Il suo legame con Abarth è iniziato nel 2012 quando in orbita Fiat ha assunto la carica di “Marketing Director 500 & Brand’s New Strategy Initiative”.

Director of the ACI CSAI Michele Alboreto Federal School. His debut as a driver was in 1989 in the 60 Minikart category. In 1995 he achieved his fi rst title: Italian Karting Champion in the100 ICA. His professional history includes diverse experiences, including the role of offi cial tester.

In meno di dieci anni (8 per l’esattezza) la WSK Promotion è cresciuta sempre di più, tanto ad arrivare a “far suo”, dal punto di vista organizzativo, l’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth. Ripercorriamo la sua storia fatta di numeri, gare, comunicazione e, ovviamente, successi.

2006 WSK International Series 4 gare races

The fi rst step in the racing industry and quality is already a guarantee. For instance, in the WSK International Series the top two categories (Formula A and Super-ICC) are won by Valtteri Bottas and Jules Bianchi, both of whom today race in Formula 1.

Il primo passo nel mondo delle competizioni ed è subito all’insegna della qualità. Il perché è, ad esempio, nella WSK International Series dove a trionfare nelle due categorie di vertice (Formula A e Super-ICC) sono Valtteri Bottas e Jules Bianchi. In 2007, in fact, the WSK message starts to reach fans also through a dedicated magazine (1000 gift copies at each race event). At the end of 2014, WSK will reach a grand total of over 90,000 copies distributed, packed with race reports, stats, news, photo galleries in the name of one passion, the love for karting.

The year marks the second edition of the Driver of the Year Award, dedicated to the driver who most stands out throughout the season for skill and talent. The inaugural winner of the prestigious prize assigned by WSK Promotion was rising motorsport star Nyck De Vries.
