A Prayer for the end of Term

At the end of this school term, we give thanks to God:For all the teaching and learning that have taken place in our school, both in and out of the classroom. We give thanks for the talents and gifts that have been shared and the challenges that have been faced,For the burdens that have been lifted and the hurts that have been healed,For the respect and care that have been given.

We give thanks for the friendships that have just begun and for those that have grown. For the faith that has been lived in our daily struggles,For the hope that has lifted our hearts on the dark daysAnd for the love that has kept us going.

We give thanks for the community that we are and we ask you Lord -Bless our students as this term ends: may your Spirit inspire them with confidence and calmness. Bless our families as we take our holidays.Pour out your love on us that we may return renewed and refreshedto continue our journey together .We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Students enjoyed coming to school in their onesie/PJ’s to raise funds for the Caritas Foundation.

Thank you to Steve MacDonald who came along to our assembly as a Duffy Role Model sponsored by the Government.

Kia Ora Parents and Caregivers,

We have had so much to celebrate this term, culminating in a wonderful fundraiser today for Caritas. It was awesome to see so many of your children in their Onesies/pyjama’s. Thank you to all who supported this amazing organisation.

Room 1 have been looking at parables this term. The question is why Jesus would let most people wonder about the meaning of His parables. It has been said that a parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Jesus frequently used parables as a means of illustrating profound, divine truths. Stories such as these are easily remembered, the characters bold, and the symbolism rich in meaning. Parables were a common form of teaching in Judaism. Before a certain point in His ministry, Jesus had employed many graphic analogies using common things that would be familiar to everyone (salt, bread, sheep, etc.)

and their meaning was fairly clear in the context of His teaching. Parables required more explanation, and at one point in His ministry, Jesus began to teach using parables exclusively.

The first instance of this is in His telling the parable of the seed and the soils. Before He interpreted this parable, He drew His disciples away from the crowd. They said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should

heal them.’ But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it" (Matthew 13:10-17).

Our next full school mass in Term 3 will be held at the end of week 3 (10th

August).

As we are a Mary MacKillop school, we will be spending Mary MacKillop Day (8th

August) at St. Joseph’s School in Fairlie. Our school mass on 10th

August will therefore have a Mary MacKillop theme. Again, this is a reminder that our celebration mass is a compulsory mass, which means ALL children are expected to attend and do so in full school uniform. I had such wonderful feedback from parishioners and the community after our last school mass, and hopefully we can leave the same mark in August.

Little Pat’s classroom is almost up and running and this will commence in week 3 next term. I was hoping to open this classroom in week 2, but unfortunately I will be on a course in Christchurch on 29th July, so Little Pats will begin in week 3. We look forward to welcoming Paige Smart and Tane MacDonald to Little Pats – I’m sure this will assist with their transition into Room 3 at

School News

Subway – Tuesday 29th

July. Forms are available from the school office or in the classroom.

Board of Trustees Meeting – the next meeting will be held on 7th July.

Miniball – The senior team has showed great improvement over the season and the last couple of games have proved this. With big losses to teams in the first round they have become much more competitive. They are currently in the top four and looking at making the semi finals. The juniors have also improved especially the Year 3’s. This could be a great team in the making. They currently stand 2nd of the bottom four.

Thank You

Little Pats – Thank you to the Friends at St Pats for their kind donation of $400 to go towards the set up of our new transition room – Little Pats. The donation was greatly appreciated by the staff and I’m sure our future St Patrick’s students will get plenty of use out of the purchased learning tools.

Library – We now have the library back up and running. This has been a long and tedious process but it would not have been possible without the help from the parishioners who were here continuously to help us out. Thank you to Doreen Greenlaw, Kristeen McLachlan and Trudy Foster. Also a big thanks to those parents that came in to help as well. Thank you also to Anne Pratt for the donation of the tents and tunnels for the kids to have fun while reading.

Marvellous Muffins

The Friends at St Pats have come across heaps of old Marvellous Muffin Recipe books from a previous fundraiser. They will be selling these for $2 each at the school office. Just for a wee teaser and something to do over the holidays with the kids try this recipe from the book.

Fudge-filled Peanut Butter Muffins

Ingredients: ½ cup choc chips1 Tbsp baking powder½ cup brown sugar½ cup peanut butter1 egg, beaten½ cup chopped peanuts1 Tbsp butter1 2/3 cups flour¾ cup milk1/3 cup oil1 ½ tsp vanilla essence

In a small saucepan melt choc chip and butter, put aside. Mix together flour, baking powder and sugar. In a bowl mix milk, peanut butter, oil, egg and vanilla essence. Add to dry ingredients, combine. Spoon half the mix into prepared muffin tins, and then put a spoonful of the choc mix on top. Cover with remaining mix. Sprinkle over chopped peanuts and bake at 200c for 15-20 minutes.
