So it is that time of year yet again, boots are being dusted off and players of all age

groups are preparing for the new season at Long Buckby Rugby Club.

Pre-season training has begun for the seniors and we have seen lots of faces at the

sessions (Tuesday and Thursday 7pm), both old and new. This year senior team coaches

Andy Milner and Deej Fair are spicing things

up slightly with some training sessions with a

difference, including the water battle of the

year and hay bale rolling at a local farm!

These different types of sessions have been

enjoyed by the players and put them through

their paces too.

The 1st XV have two pre-season games on the

29th August (Away at Rugby Lions) and 5th

September (Home to Northampton BBOBs).

Come along to support them in the run up to

the 2015-2016 season.

A huge congratulations to Rebecca and Tim Lewis who became man and wife last month!

On Saturday 27th July 2015, Rebecca made Tim an honest man in a beautiful ceremony held

at Olney Church. Rebecca looked stunning and Tim didn’t scrub up too badly either.

Following the ceremony, the party got underway at Cranford Hall in Kettering where the

first dance took place - who knew Tim could be so quick on his feet?!

Tim has been playing at LBRFC since he was 6 years old and has been a key member of the

club ever since, despite a small ‘break’ from the sport due to injury! He also is a coach for

the Under 16s and is a well respected, and well loved, member of the club.

All at LBRFC would like to wish them all the best in a long and happy future together.

Tag Rugby Comes to West Haddon Primary School

A massive thank you to Richard Funnell and Ben Stoneman for giving up their day (on the

hottest day of the year!) to teach children of West Haddon Primary School tag rugby

skills.

As part of National Sports week, the children of West Haddon were taking part in a whole

week of sports ranging from dance and aerobics, to cricket and tag rugby.

Richard and Ben ran sessions for children from 4 through to 11 to teach them basic skills,

movements and rules of tag rugby, before refereeing mini games.

All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and we even had a few requests to join

the club, hopefully we will see some of these young faces on a Sunday!

Thank you again to Richard and Ben for braving 35 degree heat outside all day!

The main bar refurbishment is nearing completion!

After many weeks planning and work, the pro-

ject is close to completion. The new bar has

been installed, with new beer lines for both the

main and presidents bar.

The next stage is to re decorate the main room

walls, which is presently in progress, if you wish

to help out, please email [email protected] with

you details and we will contact you, or alterna-

tively contact Steve Dickinson.

Hollowell Steam Rally 4th & 5th July

A team of club volunteers coordinated

by Graham Hughes once again pulled

together to manage the car parking,

refuse collection and dismantling of

security fencing at this year’s Hollow-

ell Steam Rally. Within excess of 40

team members contributing over the

weekend. The Rally helps raise money

for local charities and clubs, for this

hard work the Rally organisers con-

tribute a donation to the club, which

goes a long way towards the running

cost of the club. We also have a

LBRFC stand at the rally, which is run by Steve Harris & Jim Brodie, they help promote

the club, whilst also running fundraising activities on the stand. Therefore from all at

the club, we would like to thank Graham Hughes for organising the volunteers, and to all

the volunteers, namely:

Adrian Cox, Andrew Frankland, Andrew Tarplee, Andy Milner, Ben Walton, Chelsea

Comerford, Chris Davey, Colin Barr, Craig York, DJ Fair, Duncan Ball, Duncan Frankland,

Dylan Roberts, Graham Dixon, Gregg Barr, Howard Hughes, Ian Mawby, Ian Nixon, Jim

Brodie, Jonathan Nixon, Jonathan Palmer, Laura Billing, Laura Harries, Linda Palmer,

Mark Etches, Mark Valentine, Matt Stableford, Meg Palmer, Tonka, Mike Harries,

Mitch Barr, Nicholas Rice, Nick Palmer, Nigel Allcott, Pauline Barr, Peter Connor, Ricky

Nixon, Ross McPhillips, Sam Evans, Steve Harris, Steve Pearce, Sue Brodie, Sue Frank-

land, Tim Dixon & Victoria Frankland

The club needs volunteers, we are all part of a club, and together even when there is

dirty work it is fun, and will give all a sense of satisfaction in contributing to our

club. Please offer your help where you can, to help share the weight which sits on too

few shoulders within our club. In it together!

MUD SWEAT & BEER Run @ Shuckburgh Hall.

A LBRFC U7 & U8 coaches & players team was or-

ganised by Charlotte Ratcliffe to enter into the

recent Mud, Sweat & Beer run @ Shuckburgh

Hall.

A 5km course full of challenges, including swim-

ming across a cold muddy lake + many other obsta-

cles, was met head on by the team. This was all

done whilst having fun and raising money for War-

wickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambu-

lance. The next race will be in September, let’s see if we can increase the numbers of

the LBRFC team for the next event. More info to follow.

This month I caught up with Andy Oliver who has become one of our regular full backs in the 1st

XV. Let’s find out more about the speedy man behind the beard...

Name: Andy Oliver

DOB: 12/11/1987

Height: 6’0

Marital Status: Single

Rugby team you support: Newcastle Falcons / Tynedale

1) Which position do you play? Full Back

2) How many years have you played for LBRFC and how did you become a player? I have being around the club for about 2 and a half years but only really played over the last 12 months and then I was only able to play about half of the games. 3) Which team do you look forward to playing the most and why? Any team that are higher in the league than ourselves as it’s more of a challenge and we can prove ourselves to be the best team in the league. But if I was to pick one team, I would say Rushden and Higham. 4) Most embarrassing moment on a rugby field? It’s quite embarrassing when I try and pass the ball, so I’ve decided against doing it for next season. 5) Growing up who was your all-time favorite rugby player? Rob Andrew

6) Favorite food and drink? Favorite meal is Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and drink is Jameson's and ginger ale. 7) Favorite band or musician? Artic Monkeys

8) If you could be another teammate for a week who would it be and why? James Hare so I could eat steak every morning. 9) Who is the funniest teammate? The Dixons as a collective group. I just love those guys as they al-ways bring a smile to my face whenever I see them. 10) Who is your dream date? Emily Ratajkowski, Cara Delevinge or Emma Watson. 11) Who’s the best dressed in the squad? No-one is particularly good in this department but I would say Tom Evans. 12) Which teammate would be voted off Big Brother first and who would win? (and why!)

Out First – Myself as I wouldn’t want to be there in the first place. To Win – Timmy Dixon as he is always getting up to something entertaining. 13) What teammate is most likely to avoid paying for a round when you are out? Luke Foster as he doesn’t drink and has not gone Out, Out to buy me a round! 14) Describe yourself in 3 words: Patient, Confident and Chilled. 15) What one piece of advice would you give to children playing rugby? Enjoy it. 16) Who was your first ever coach and what do you remember about them? My first coach was my best friends dad when I was about 10. He was formerly a loose head prop and played veteran rugby for Tynedale when he coached me. I remember him teaching the front row all the dirty tricks they could play during games including the “dirty sanchez” and that rugby was a sport where it doesn’t matter the result (although its always better to win) drinks and socialising after the game is just as important. 17) If you could turn back time and witness one event what would it be? The day William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and effectively created our beloved Rugby. 18) What has been the best sporting event you have ever seen? Super Saturday at the Olympics 2012 followed by the Ashes Win in Australia 2010/2011. 19) If you could attend any sporting event in the world, what would it be? A Lions Tour. 20) What is your favorite thing about yourself? My Beard. 21) What is one thing you would change about yourself? My legs so I never got cramp again. 22) The one place I would never go on holiday is… Sunderland!!

It feels rather odd writing an introduction to my own interview, however many of you will just know me as ‘the girl

who takes photos and does the newsletter’! So here is a little more about me!

Name: Joanna

Place of birth: Northampton

Favourite food? All pasta. Also I’m vegetarian.

Favourite band or musician? Faithless, U2, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay.

Favourite drink? Juice.

What is the best sporting event you have ever been to? The Rugby World Cup Victory Parade through London

after England winning the World Cup in 2003. I stood on a pillar box with my dad and we threw a rugby ball onto the

player’s coach for Jonny Wilkinson to sign. His pen wouldn’t work and he threw it back (rather inaccurately for a

rugby player!). Later we sent it to Falcon’s and it arrived back on Christmas Eve signed with the message “Sorry

about the throw!” We even made it onto ITV and Sky News!!

If you could attend any sporting event in the world, what would it be? England in another world cup final, win-

ning again.

How did you get involved in LBRFC and become a supporter? I met Luke and ended up doing my girlfriend

duties and watching him play every weekend. I then started filming snippets of the game to keep me busy (and

warmer!) during games. Finally I invested in a DSLR camera and began taking photographs. Also I began the

newsletter last season too!

How many years have you supported or been involved with LBRFC? This will be the start of my third season.

What is your most embarrassing moment at the club? Making a totally innocent comment at tag rugby which

was then turned into a rude connotation by all of the players who were there! (Luke’s suggestion: missing most of his

tries because I am too busy chatting!)

Which rugby team do you support? Bath Rugby #BBWFamily

Growing up, who was your all-time favourite rugby player? I was a massive fan of Olly Barkley which ended up

with him giving me a pair of his game shorts after a match against Tigers! They are now framed (and washed!) and

signed!

Who is your favourite LBRFC player? Apart from the obvious bias of saying the very talented and speedy Luke

(ehm…), I would probably say Tom Haynes (aka Hayno!) A player with dedication and presence on the pitch as well

as being a good chap with a hilarious sense of humour off the pitch.

What is the best LBRFC game you have watched and why? Not necessarily the best game I have seen but I

really enjoyed the game in the 2014/15 season against BBOBs away. The sun was shining, it was one of the first

games with my DSLR camera and I got some pictures I am really proud of.

Who is your dream date? This was probably the trickiest question, but after much contemplation it’s a cheesy an-

swer... it is actually Luke! Can’t beat being treated to an evening out just you and the better half!

Three words to describe you: Short, organised and talkative.

What is one piece of ‘life advice’ you would give out? Don’t worry – it is like standing still with an umbrella,

waiting for it to rain.

If you could turn back time and witness one event, what would it be? The very first Ancient Olympic games in

Greece.

The one place I would never go on holiday is… On a cruise, I get sea sick!
