ISSUE 6 - Spring Term 2018 This term has seen us taking to the water, the hills, and a paintball course as part of our busy youth-led programme. From tackling challenging snowy conditions in the Cairngorms, to undertaking 2* canoe and kayak assessments during the infamous 'Beast from the East', we certainly haven't let the winter get in the way of our adventures. ISSUE 6 - Spring Term 2018

WINTER CAMP ASCOUTING START TO2018

Right at the beginning of the year ourintrepid Explorers and Leadersbraved the winter cold to go andexplore the Peak District They spenttwo days engaged in a number ofadventurous activities abseiling off a50-foot high bridge travelling alongunderwater rivers in a dinghy andgetting some hillwalking trips undertheir belts

GLENMORE LODGE WINTER SKILLS COURSEIn the February half-term holiday twelve adventurous (insane) members of the Unit

took on the mountains of Scotland in some of the most intense weather WWESU hasever faced The week long winter skills course saw us doing ice-axe arrests usingcrampons and exploring the Cairngorms with the lovely guides at Glenmore Lodge

AMAZING AWARDS With such enthusiastic Explorers its no surprise that WWESU was well-represented at the recent Greater London North Awards Evening It was greatto see the achievements of all the countys young people being celebratedPlus the showing of one of the Units videos as a display of GLNs commitmentto adventurous activities provoked admiration from the audience and cries oflaughter from the WWESU Explorers in attendance

This term has seen our members receiving a number of awards most notablysix Queens Scout Awards seven Explorer Belts four Jack Petchey Awardsand - a first for the Unit - one Young Leader Belt Not bad going if we do say soourselves A huge well done to all our achievers
