For the first time, our Guy’s Cross
Country team competed in the 1A
State Championship meet held at
Sandhills Research Center. Out of 15
1A teams, our Phoenix Guys placed
4th in the State! And Alex Berg
placed 15th out of 112 runners to earn
a place on the All State team.
Our Ladies had to combine with the
other 1A and 2A teams in the state for
a qualifier to see who would be eligi-
ble for a 1A/2A State Championship.
This happened because there were
not enough 1A teams in our state to
host our own 1A State Championship.
While our ladies each had PRs, we
fell just a bit short.

MEET OUR COACHES
Zachary Vollertsen has played soccer
for most of his life, including high
school and travel. After graduating,
high school, he
went on to play
for Newberry
College. Coach
Z was the assis-
tant coach for
Goose Creek
High School,
the head coach for a U12 team for
Goose Creek United, and last year
coached PSA’s JV boys’ team. Out-
side of soccer, he works at 111 Cus-
tom Carts where he sells, builds and
services custom golf carts.
Reid Short joins the PSA coaching
staff as our Head Coach for JV Boys.
He was born
and raised in
Goose Creek
and played
high school
soccer for
Stratford. He
also played
club soccer for Goose Creek United
and Daniel Island Soccer Academy.
He is currently working on obtain-
ing a degree in cybersecurity.

Head Coach of our Varsity
Men’s Soccer team. Coach
Reid Short will take on the
role of the JV Boys Head
Coach role. Together, Coach Z
and Coach Short will lead our
guy’s soccer programs.

The SCHSL has determined that spring sports open season will be cancelled. This means
there will be NO TEAM PRACTICES for ANY spring sports over the winter.
The first practice date (tryout date) is February 1st.

If you are a spring sports athlete (baseball, softball, soccer, track & field), it is STRONGLY
RECOMMENDED, and in your best interest, to begin your own conditioning NOW, and begin
working on skills/drills BEFORE tryouts on February 1.
If you have not already done so, this is also a great time to GET YOUR PLANETHS PAPER-
WORK DONE! You have 9 weeks. Don’t procrastinate!
