NOVEMBER 2015PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE IN NOVEMBER

.

The Power of Teamwork

I am thrilled to be able to say that our primary FDK room on the first floor in the south building is looking fantastic. It is amazing

what can happen when TDSB staff and the Bowmore community come together to provide students with an enriched classroom

environment. We now have a bathroom within the classroom. An archway was built between the classroom and the neighbouring space

where there was already an existing washroom. Walls have been painted, and both a drinking fountain and new teacher sink/cabinet were

installed in the foyer of the bathroom. A new child sink was also installed in the existing bathroom. In addition, we have purchased new

resources that reflect the FDK inquiry based learning curriculum. It is wonderful to see the power of teamwork when working towards a

common goal.

Although reorganization presented some challenges, I want to thank staff, families, and facilities staff for their timely, proactive

support and patience during that time. Reorganization is never an easy process, but when everyone works together it results in positive

outcomes. Teachers prepared students for the change and made the transitions as smooth as possible by taking them to visit their new

teachers and classmates in advance of the actual transition day. Teachers made arrangements to welcome their new students in different

ways. Activities included: welcome packages, classroom celebrations of welcome, individual and small group discussions. I am very

pleased and proud to share that our first day of transitioning was incredibly successful due to a strong home school partnership, trust in the

school that children will be well supported through the process of change, and the belief that students come first.

At our last council meeting, there was a concern raised about safety in our building. As I mentioned at this meeting, I have been

working with facilities since I started last September around making sure our building was safe. Recently, I walked around with a Toronto

Police Services expert to ensure that our building met his safety standards. He was pleased with the measures we put in place and was

satisfied that our building was safe. We also had Police Constable Germaine participate in our first lock down drill to provide feedback

about suggestions for improvement. In addition, I have consulted with the Fire Marshall regarding safety of the building. We are

constantly trying to balance a warm, welcoming community based environment with the measures necessary to ensure student safety. We

will continue to work with our community partners to provide the most secure and welcoming environment possible for students, staff,

and families.

I understand that these are challenging times in our schools. Bowmore administration, teachers and staff, continue to work

together to provide your children with quality programming and a safe environment. Please continue to monitor the Bowmore School

Council website and TDSB website for the most up to date information about job action.

Safety Alert!

Parent pick-up/drop-off

This is a kind reminder that parent pick-up and

drop-off before and after school must be done in

front of the pathway located on Wrenson Ave on

the south side of the school and west of the parking

lot.

We have approximately 50 cars that come in and

out of the parking lot thus making it dangerous

when dropping off children. The Bowmore parking

lot is solely used by staff and visitors.

Let’s work together to ensure that our students

remain safe by making safety our # 1 objective.

Attention all

Visitors!

In order to ensure continued safety at

Bowmore we ask that all visitors sign in

at the office. We appreciate your

continued cooperation.

Thank you on

behalf of the

Bowmore Road Staff!

QSP UPDATE

SUPPORT BOWMORE BY SUBSCRIBING TO YOUR FAVOURITE MAGAZINES!

Each year we hold our school's annual QSP magazine fundraiser to raise money to benefit our students. With your enthusiasm, last year we raised enough

money to support our enrichment programs at Bowmore! This year is different from other years because of the work-to-rule situation in the TDSB, which

means we will not be making announcements or issuing reminders through the school. Also, there will be no QSP prizes for the children.

We still need to raise funds for our children's enrichment programs and supporting the QSP program is one way for us to achieve this goal. So SHOP

NOW! It's easy and all your favourite magazines can be found online. There are FRENCH magazines available too !

This year, ORDER ONLINE or BY PHONE:

For online purchases, visit www.qsp.ca site and click on the SHOP NOW icon. Our school's GROUP ID is 3720844.

To shop by phone, call 1.800.667.2536. Our school's GROUP ID is 3720844.

There is no start or end date to this campaign. Purchases made through www.qsp.ca will be directed to Bowmore Parent Council all year long.

The NEW magazine brochures are available in the main school foyer. There will be a QSP poster with our school's GROUP ID 3720844. If you have any

questions about this campaign, please post questions to the Bowmore Council Facebook page: facebook.com/BowmoreSC. THANK YOU to the families

and friends of Bowmore who have already supported the 2015/2016 campaign. We will start a Bowmore thank you wall to show you our appreciation.

Thank you,

QSP Team
