Adverbs give information about the time, place and manner of the action.
Most adverbs are formed from adjectives by adding ‘’___LY ‘’ at the end of
adjectives.
We can place adverbs in many possible positions in a sentence.
We can use adverbs to compare actions;
We can use adverbs to modify adjectives;
1. Jack is a heavy drinker.
He is always drinking
heavily.
2. Mary is a patient woman.She waits for the bus
patiently.
3. George is a reckless driver.
He always drives
‘’heavy, patient,
reckless, hard, wise, slow and steady are all adjectives that are modifying
the nouns.Whereas
‘’heavily, patiently, recklessly,
hard, wisely, slowly,
and steadily are all adverbs
describing action of the verb.
4. Peter is a hard worker.
He works hard all day long.
5. Hodja was a wise man.
He always spoke wisely.
6. Tortoise is a slow animal.
It walks slowly but
steadily.
Adjectives are words that modify or describe nouns.Adverbs describe or modify verbs and adjectives. Adverbs give more information about the action of the verb. Here are some examples:
I saw Jenny three months ago. I haven’t seen her since.When
She went to London to study English.
I miss her badly.
She said, she will return to Turkey soon.
but she must be speaking English fluently
now.
