ABOUT THIS CALENDER This calendar is published by The Otago Muslim Association Inc (OMA) and The Muslim Students Association (MUSA). OMA and MUSA represent the Muslim community in the Otago area, operating mainly in the greater Dunedin area. OMA and MUSA have been in operation in this sacred and honourable work for the sake of Allah SWT, for the last 15years. The salat time in this calendar are produced by the Hilal committee of The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ), which represents the Muslims of New Zealand on the National level and work for the welfare of New Zealand Muslims (http://www.fianz.co.nz/). Iqamah, for congregation salat (Jama’ah), is held 10 minutes after Adhan except Fajr which is 45 minutes before shuruq (sunrise). Information about various activities in the mosque and those of the OMA and MUSA are contained in the calendar. The Hijri dates are calculated by MoonCalc version 6.0 (http://www.ummah.net/ildl/mooncalc.html) and may vary subject to actual moon sighting as announced by FIANZ Hilal committee.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION OMA and MUSA offer a wide range of services such as provision of Halal meat, daily salahs, Friday prayer, observation of Islamic events like Ramadhan and Eid, Sunday Islamic School for children, weekly lecture sessions, sports activities for both brothers and sisters, youth camps and Janazah prayers etc. The mosque needs your help, both in terms of time and money. Narrated One of the wives of the Prophet (PBUH): Hunaydah ibn Khalid narrated from his wife on the authority of one of the wives of the Prophet (PBUH) who said: The Apostle of Allah (PBUH) used to fast the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah, Ashura' and three days of every month. Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet (PBUH) came to Medina and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura. He asked them about that. They replied, "This is a good day, the day on which Allah rescued Bani Israel from their enemy. So, Moses fasted this day." The Prophet said, "We have more claim over Moses than you." So, the Prophet fasted on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to fast (on that day). (Bukhari Book #31, Hadith #222)

Abu Hurairah (RAA) and Ibn Umar (RAA) relate that they heard the prophet (PBUH) say from his wooden pulpit: “The people should not neglect the Friday prayer, otherwise, Allah (SWT) will seal their hearts and they will be counted among the negligent ones”. (Narrated by Muslim)

Narrated Salman-Al-Farsi (RAA): The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Juma’h prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven.". Ibn Umar (RAA) relates that the prophet (PBUH) said: “Recompense for the prayer offered along with congregation is twenty seven times more than the prayer offered in home or in bazaar”. (Bukhari and Muslim).

Narrated 'Aisha (RAA): The Prophet (PBUH) never fasted (voluntary fasts) in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban. He used to say, "Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired (of giving rewards) till you get bored and tired (of performing religious deeds)." The most beloved prayer to the Prophet was the one that was done regularly (throughout the life) even if it were little. And whenever the Prophet offered a prayer he used to offer it regularly. (Bukhari Book #31, Hadith #191)

Abu Huraira (RAA) reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Five (daily) prayers and from one Friday prayer to the (next) Friday prayer, and from Ramadhan to Ramadhan are expiations for the (sins) committed in between (their intervals) provided one shuns the major sins. Narrated Abu Huraira (RAA): The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah SWT, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven ."
