• SME’s are eligible to take part in all these funding schemes
• Universities eligible for most schemes but some restrictions apply – for Invest NI funding a local Northern Ireland industrial partner is required

InterTradeIreland’s INNOVA
• All-island collaborative R&D programme. Companies must be based on the island of Ireland – either Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland.
• Funding will be available for eligible projects geared towards product, process and service development
• Minimum 2 partners, one North, one South
• Funding level up to 50% of eligible costs for SME’s – Maximum support up to £250,000 per partnership
• Two stage application process
• Continuously open for Expressions of Interest

Eurostars
• The Eurostars Programme aim is to provide funding for market-oriented research and development, specifically with the active participation of R&D-performing SME’s.
• Collaborative - must involve at least two partners from two different Eurostars Member States.
• Open to all thematic areas
• Funding level at 50% of eligible costs – up to €300,000 per UK partner (local rules apply for Republic of Ireland and France)
• Next Call Deadline 22nd September 2011

Research for the benefit of SME’s• The R4SME programme aims to strengthen the “innovation capacity” of
SMEs (and SME associations) in Europe and support their contribution to the development of new technology-based products and market
Consortium Requirements• At least 3 independent SMEs established in different Member States• At least 2 research providers independent from any other participant
Features • Project is defined by the consortium• IP belongs to the SMEs but research provider funded 100%

• Allows for European and International exchange • Schemes for individuals or organisations

• Industry and Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP) - encourage transnational knowledge transfer between industry and academia.

Criteria for evaluation
• The Commission will evaluate the proposals submitted according to the following main criteria:
• Relevance to the topic of the call
• Scientific and/or technological excellence
• Quality and efficiency of the implementation and management
• Potential impact of project results

Key factors for success
Competition is tough: only the best projects get funded
• The consortium of partners must be excellent and appropriate for the task and address the work programme topic fully
• The proposal must address all 3 evaluation criteria
• Convince the evaluators
• Respect the basic rules
