Our Plans We have much to do in the years ahead. To support our vision, we are planning on many differ-

ent activities. Followings are the highlights:

Soccer Camps for Kids and Youths: By late 2011, opening and running week-end soccer

camps in San Jose areas. The camps would be free to low income families or at a very mini-

mal cost. It would be staffed by V/U players led by Coach Khoi and Asst. Coach Trung.

Local Community Services: Signing up for charity opportunities at local agencies and cen-

ters such as Second Harvest Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Bay, churches,

pagodas, etc... at least 4 times every year. Players will wear T-Shirts with VStars United logo

to expose the team to the community. Our first volunteer work is scheduled for December

18, 2010 at the Second Harvest Food Bank in San Mateo, California, USA.

Local League and Tournament Competitions: Signing up for at least 2 league sessions

every year; the goal is to qualify for the Peninsula Soccer League in 2012. Signing up for

tournaments locally and in nearby cities, which would enhance VStars United status as

truly representing Vietnamese soccer in the Bay Area.

Oversea Competition and Community Service: Taking team V/U to Vietnam for friendly

games and community work during the last 2 weeks of June 2011. The team will play 4

games interspersed with 4 community service days.

501(c)(3) Non-profit Status: Applications have been filed and are pending. An initial board

of directors have been elected to lead our newly established non-profit organization and

guide us in our future directions.

Open Letter to Our Fans and Sponsors

Dear Business Owners, Community Supporters and Sport Fans:

VStars United was established to promote fair, beautiful, creative and disciplined soccer among the Vietnamese community of the Bay Area. Although the team is less than 2 years old, it has proven itself with a united, friendly and mutually respected group of players, and a convincing two consecutive league champion-ships. Our next big challenge is to spread this synergy and success to the commu-nities around us, impacting them in a very positive way.

The managing staff is motivated, committed and well organized to pursue the visions and execute the plans laid out above. All of us volunteer our time and energy to ensure that Vietnamese soccer in the Bay Area earns back its positive standing with our supporters and fans, and we strongly believe that we can and will achieve our goals.

Our effort requires adequate resources in order to succeed. We need your help! Remember, your generous contribution shall change how Vietnamese soccer is played and perceived in the Bay Area. The staff will work with you on a variety of sponsorship packages to increase the profile of your businesses. Contributions to VStars United are tax deductible under the 501(c)(3) non-profit tax code.

We look forward to meeting and telling you more about VStars United.

Yours Truly,

“Simple but effective soccer”

In every issue, we will introduce a few of our team members so that the fans and sponsors can get to know us better. In this very

first issue, we chose to feature our team manager, captain and a talented young midfielder. Each has a different role within the

team, but they symbolize what VStars United is truly about: uniting experience, talent, youth, friendship, passion, and soccer into

one organization.

and Sai Gon. He joined All

Stars World, a soccer acad-

emy for gifted youth in Sai

Gon, for 2 years and helped

them win the District 1 tour-

nament championship. In

the USA, he played for Mer-

ritt College Soccer team for

one year before joining

VStars United. Nghia be-

lieves that V/U is a good

team for young players be-

cause he can improve his

skills by learning from other

good players in the team. He

One of VStars United young-

est players, Nghia has

quickly earned his spot—and

the number 10—on the start-

ing line-up. To Nghia, wear-

ing number 10 is not a privi-

lege; rather it is a challenge

to excel. He has proven his

soccer prowess by scoring

15 goals for VStars United

during the past three sea-

sons. Having started at an

early age, by 6 years old

Nghia was playing soccer all

over the streets of Hai Phong

also enjoys the friendship

and brotherhood that VStars

United offers. He is currently

attending Laney College,

Trung Le—Midfielder/Captain/Assistant Coach

developing the team’s at-

tacking strategy. One can

often find Trung passionately

explaining to his teammates

how soccer is like a puzzle,

with each player as a piece

on the game board. The

gaps between opposing

pieces are the passing lanes

that V/U players must con-

stantly visualize and exploit

in order to penetrate their

defense. His primary objec-

tive in co-founding VStars is

to take Vietnamese soccer to

the next level where we can

compete competently in the

Peninsula Soccer League,

which is the most competi-

tive amateur league in the

Bay Area. Besides soccer,

Trung enjoys playing volley-

ball and tennis as well.

The multiple titles that Trung

takes on speak volume to

not only his important contri-

butions in the team, but also

his passion for soccer and

success. On the field, he is a

brilliant playmaker and cap-

tain who can profoundly

impact the team’s tempo

and dynamic. During prac-

tices, Trung serves as the

team’s assistant coach,

Khoi Nguyen—Defender/Coach spent 10 years (1997-2007)

playing and managing team

Viet San, leading them to the

Bay Area Asian Soccer Asso-

ciation championship in

2007.

Founded team VSOP O-35

in 2006 and won the South

Bay United League in that

very same year.

Received many medals for

countless tournaments that

he has participated in.

As V/U coach, Khoi has been

instrumental in creating and

maintaining a disciplined,

supportive and cooperative

environment among the

players. One of his favorite

sayings says it all: “it’s easy

to find a better player; it’s a

lot harder to find a player

who makes the team better.”

In his free time, Khoi enjoys

playing the guitar, cooking,

and traveling the world with

his wife Cindy.

Khoi came to team V/U with

plenty of experience in play-

ing, managing and coaching.

His resume is filled with

accomplishments:

At age 12, picked up by

Nang Khieu Tao Dan (Tao

Dan Gifted Youth Soccer

Academy), helping them

capture the 1982 U-13 Re-

gional Championship of

Southern Vietnam.

After settling in the USA,

pursuing a Bachelor’s De-

gree in Mathematics. Nghia

is doing a tremendous job

juggling his school work, his

tutoring job

and his com-

mitment to

VStars United.

We look for-

ward to hear-

ing more of

his accom-

plishments.
