How Does Caffeine in Coffee Affect the Blood Pressure of Athletes and Youngsters? Most people have an intimate relationship with caffeine. They love it, crave it and take it every day in different kinds of beverages such as coffee. Coffee is warm, reassuring and keeps people sharp. It is a brewed beverage prepared from the roasted or baked seeds of several species of an evergreen shrub of the genus Coffea. Caffeine is a bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid and a stimulant drug. Also, it is probably the most frequently ingested pharmacologically active substance in the world. Once in the blood stream, caffeine causes a number of responses in the body. One of which are short, but dramatic increases in blood pressure, even if a person doesn't have high blood pressure. Athletes and students use caffeine as a belief that it can boost their performances. This study was conducted in order to understand the relationship of caffeine in coffee and blood pressure as well as its effects on the performances of athletes and youngsters.
