RE: Invitation to the International Training Course on Research and Capacity Building on

Collaborative Governance

Dear Sir/Madame,

I am pleased to inform you that the La Salle Institute of Governance, in partnership with the University of

British Columbias Centre for Human Settlements through the UBC-UN Habitat Exchange, and with thesupport from the DLSU-Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Zonal Research Center, is organizing an

international training course called Research and Capacity Building on Collaborative Governance. This

would be held on August 5, 2010, Thursday, 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., at De La Salle University-Manila.

The course would enable the participants to achieve the following: (1) to understand the role of the university

in delivering capacity building programs to various clients; (2) to determine how to establish research teams;

(3) to see the need to integrate teaching, research and community service learning programs; (4) to learn how

to conduct research with non-profit organizations; (5) to appreciate the use of surveys in doing research andgovernance assessments; and (6) to realize the challenges in developing collaborative governance research

partnerships.

Lectures would be delivered by resource speakers from the University of British Columbia (Canada),

Florida State University (United States), and De La Salle University - Manila. Collaboration exercises andaction planning activities to be facilitated through the use of interactive learning tools would be conducted.

There would also be a sharing session on how to apply for research assistance and other grant opportunitiesfrom CHED. Training certificates will be awarded at the end of the program.
