Sincesynchronousmotorscanbeoperatedatleadingpowerfactor,theyareusedtocorrectafacility’slaggingpowerfactorcreatedbyalltheotherinductionmotorsbeingoperated.

Single Step Rotor Control
Thesolid-statestarteriswiredtothemotorstatorcircuit,andtheresistorandshortingcontactorarewiredtothemotorrotorcircuit.Thesolidstatestarteracceleratesthemotortoslipspeed(determinedbytheresistancevalue)andthenactivatesthecontac-tortoshorttherotor.Thisallowsthemotortoacceleratetofullspeed.
Multiple Step Rotor Circuit
RBWseriesstarterscanbesuppliedwithmultiplestagesofrotorresistorandcontactorcombinations.Thisarrangementmaybenecessaryformultiplestepstartingofextremelyhighinertialoads,orforcontinuousopera-tionatmultiplespeeds.Multiplestepsofrotorresistancecanbecoordinatedtoachievethis.
