How Do You Handle Challenges/Stress? You can’t control everything in your work environment, but I handle stress and challenges by: taking responsibility for my physical and emotional well-being, avoiding negative attitudes and improving my communication skills.

Discover the wild kingdom of Mount Diablo. Bishop Ranch has teamed up with the Lindsay Wildlife Museum bring you a presentation about the amazing diversity of species that live on Mt. Diablo—which includes rattlesnakes, tarantulas, butterflies and even the occasional elusive mountain lion. Rising to nearly 4,000 feet, Mt. Diablo’s habitats vary from chaparral to oak woodlands, grassy meadows and pine forests that provide the food, water and shelter that allow mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and insects to meet their survival needs.

Join us outdoors at the Parklet at BR1 for a fascinating look at our wild neighbors while you enjoy lunch in the open air. The presentation by the Lindsay Wildlife Museum will incorporate live animals including: a bird of prey, a tarantula and a snake.

Join us in an artistic extravaganza! Celebrate art and beauty, tradition and culture at the annual Bishop Ranch Rangoli Art Walk.

An ancient form of Indian folk art, Rangoli are colorful decorative designs that are made on the floors of courtyards and living rooms during Hindu festivals to bring good luck. The patterns are typically created using colored rice, sand and flour, as well as flowers and flower petals. Natural colorings such as vermilion and turmeric are used to create vibrant geometric shapes, floral patterns or deity impressions depending upon the celebratory occasion.

Join us in making beautiful Rangoli patterns—it’s fun, creative and a wonderful way to bring in autumn at our campus.

Help Families Through Habitat for HumanityFriday, October 17, 2014, 8:30am – 4pm Martinez

Join the Bishop Ranch team of volunteers to work together to help build affordable housing for low-income families in Martinez. This project of 20 new homes will be starting up in September, so volunteers may work on framing the structures, building the foundation and other tasks at the construction site. There is no cost to you and Bishop Ranch will provide you with a healthy, hearty lunch to help keep your energy going strong.

CommunityFrom Pavement To ParkletA parklet is an open space or parking space temporarily converted to a park in order to provide enhanced amenities, such as green space or community seating. Designed for anyone to use and enjoy any time, parklets add beauty, greenery and oftentimes a bit of whimsy to the environment.

Earlier this summer, the “Bartlett Parklet” at Bishop Ranch originated when Sunset Development sponsored a contest for employees to design a unique and visually appealing parklet to be built by re-using everyday, or not-so-everyday, objects. When the votes were in, “Bartlett Parklet” emerged as the winner and the BASE landscape architecture group was hired to develop the design and work with employees during build week. (Continued in next column)

(Continued from previous column) The first parklet in San Ramon—or a corporate setting—Bartlett Parklet takes its name from the orchards that once flourished at Bishop Ranch and uses the (Barlett) pear shape as a design element. The parklet features community seating, a bike rack, a responsible waste station, a solar-powered outlet and sound system, pear trees and a birdhouse. Park your bike, plug in your iPod and enjoy a moment of respite!

Built from the ground up on a “drop-down” trailer originally intended to move ice shanties in Minnesota, the mobile Bartlett Parklet will be parked at various locations across the Bishop Ranch campus to delight tenants with a fun place to stop, sit, rest and gather with others from the Bishop Ranch community.
