Слава Ісусу Христу! Glory be to Jesus Christ!
“Blessed are those that can give without
remembering and receive without forgetting.”
Dear Parishioners,
Whether it is south of the border or in our own country, have you noticed the type of
atmosphere that is currently surrounding political issues. It seems that “attacking” sells. In other
words, it appears that this style of communication catches the attention of many. Unfortunately, this
style might spill into our own lives and without even noticing, in both big and small ways, we may be
relating to each other in this way. It should go without saying that this does not please our Lord.
What can be done to counter such an atmosphere? A possible answer can be found in the quote above.
Just a few days ago, I came across this quote by the British poet, Elizabeth Bibesco. Reflecting
on her words this thought arose: the acts of “remembering” and “forgetting” are always guided by the
amount of importance (priority) we give to what we choose to remember and what we choose to
forget. Please consider the following thoughts to ponder. Do we allow our faith to guide our
priorities? Do we allow our faith to influence what we remember?
To remember in a way that pleases the Lord does take an effort. It must be worked upon over
and over again. Today, September 1st is the beginning of the Church New Year. Once again, we enter
into the sacred cycle of feast days of our Lord, the Mother of God, and saints. Within the Church year
there are times of celebrating, fasting, realizing our need for God’s healing forgiveness, and how to
love one another. The Church year through our worship helps us to remember what is important and
what is not.
Throughout our Divine Liturgy, we come across the word “remember”. This “liturgical”
remembering is meant not just to recall the past, but more importantly to make real, in the present
moment, what is being remembered. The ultimate result of this is that we are more aware of the
presence of God in our lives. And when we are more aware that God is with us, then it is easier to
remember what is important and to forget what is not.
Peace & Prayers,
Fr. Dmytro
Христос посеред нас! Christ is among us!
The Redemptorists and parishioners of St. Joseph’s extend a warm welcome to all our guests. Thank you for worshipping with us today.

forever and ever.
