Weight, weight, and weight… Even more crucial than for helicopters, why?

Additional components: wing and lateral rotors

Strong engines & power train

Aerodynamic efficiency: Also crucial!

Cruise: low drag, high Lift-to-Drag ratio

Hover/ vertical flight: efficiency & manoeuvrability

Cost efficiency: Must outperform helicopter

Operating cost (per kg payload/km)

Recurring cost

NB: images may not reflect actual demonstrator sizing & components (for illustration purpose only)

Unique opportunity to mature innovative technologies up to TRL 6 and showcase them for future compound and helicopter products

Sketches & Dimensions

Dimensions are indicative and will be specified after partner selection

Overview: The primary structure to be designed and produced constitutes the fuselage front section from radar-transparent nose and cockpit section to junction with the central fuselage. It does not include the doors (responsibility of partner selected through Call 1) and the windshields (other subject of the present call: FRC02-14). This structure will be integrated in the LifeRCraft rotorcraft flying demonstrator. Main challenges are to demonstrate light weight and bird strike resistance according to airworthiness requirement and to reach TRL6 at the end of the demonstration.

This fuselage module will interfaced with the main airframe developed by Core-Partner Romanian Cluster (INCAS + IAR Brasov) and the Cockpit doors developed by Austrian-German Cluster, as well as the windscreens.
