Dear Worldwideans,
Season’s Greetings!
First of all, my best wishes to our highly accomplished Worldwide Warriors team! They
have made us proud once again for the 7th consecutive year, by winning the ACPL cup!! It’s a
matter of great pride for us and I am sure they will keep practicing more and more to win
the ACPL and other cups in the coming years too. I think it’s high time we construct a
separate room for displaying our cricket trophies to our guests.
We have just completed the 1st quarter of the financial year. I wish to congratulate the
Chennai team (TPM & Madhu), Majeed and Mayur, who have put in a tremendous show to
overachieve their targets. Coimbatore & Tuticorin have also come very closer. Overall, we
have achieved 96% of our Q1 target. I wish the same momentum continues for rest of the
year too.
This month, another feat has been achieved by Ponnappan & team in Chennai. They have
achieved a monthly tonnage of 200 Tonnes for the 1st time in our history (230 tonnes as of
30th July). I congratulate Ponnappan & his team for their relentless work, keep up the good
work!!
I also understand from our Finance dept that we have received long pending tax refunds of
Rs.1.06 crore after constant follow ups with the Govt authorities. Congratulations to
Srinivasan who was responsible for achieving this.
I request all HODs to give more importance to collection of outstandings which is essential
for us to protect our margins and be profitable.
Wish you all a happy month ahead, until we meet in this page next month.
Best wishes,
Bala

This is the first time WWL is signing a pan-India contract for Customs clearance with such a
large customer. The contract with them was signed recently by Mr Reynold at their Pune
office.
Kumar would be the one point contact for this contract who will oversee the entire
operations. We wish him the very best and look forward to many more such wins.
Centralized Filing Team’s Operations
In order to meet up with the changing environment in customs filing / compliance formalities
and also to ensure smooth, error-free and timely filing of Bill of Entries (Imports) and Shipping
Bills (Exports), we realized the need for setting up a Central Team to streamline the filing process
of All India TGL operations.
Accordingly a team was set up in November 2017, to handle Centralized Filing Solutions Team
(CFST) with a 7-member team headed by Sudhakar. A lot of ground has been covered since then
to make the system more efficient and error-free. Recently team has been extended to 12
members (including Sudhakar).
Currently, the documents are being filed electronically for Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru,
Coimbatore, Tuticorin and Vizag branches, for both Exports & Imports, except Hyderabad. Mr
Majeed has confirmed that Hyderabad branch will also join from Aug’19, for Central filing.
Sudhakar will be the ‘Go To person’ for all India Customs related queries. His major
responsibilities are:
Managing the functioning of Central Filing Solutions team
Ensuring 100% error-free and timely filing of Bill of Entries / Shipping Bills
To cover all branches of TGL under Central Filing for all Imports/Exports
Ensuring 100% compliance with Customs documentation/formalities
Knowledge transfer to all stations on latest Customs updates
Ensuring correct usage of Chapter / HS code for filing
A detailed SOP has been prepared for this and the same has been explained to all branch
Operation team employees through Skype presentation.
Documents filed from Apr’19 to Jul’19:
Exports - 1546 Shipping bills
Imports - 1659 Bill of Entries
Average bills 800 per month
New Key Accounts team:
We are happy to inform all Worldwideans that Mr Kumar has been redesignated as Deputy
Manager – Key Accounts.
We have several strategic corporate accounts, which has been providing us with regular
business and needs increased focus from our side. Such customers have been moved into a
separate business unit, so that we can deliver more value to them.
Kumar is the first employee in this business unit and would be handling Faurecia, Valspar
and Autoliv for now. Kumar is the first employee in this team. Going forward, as the
accounts grow in business volume, more accounts would get added to key accounts team,
which are to be directly handled and managed by them. Accordingly, the team strength
would also go up.
We take this opportunity to wish Kumar all the very best in his new assignment and request
everyone’s cooperation to him.

Inaugurating the India-Nepal Logistics Summit 2019 in Kathmandu, PM Oli said that at a time when
Nepal has been assuring a conducive environment for trade and investment in recent years, enhanced
investment and trade relationship with India is crucial not just because India is Nepal’s biggest trade
and investment partner, but also an important route for Nepal for third-country trade. Logistics play a
crucial role in enhancing the trade and investment relationship between Nepal and India. Thus, the
government is currently focusing on developing necessary roadways, waterways and railways
connecting the two nations.
At a time when Nepal is bracing for a multi-billion dollar bill for rail connectivity to Chinese ports
located over 4,000 km away, India is discussing the possibility of giving Bangladesh access to the west
coast ports of JNPT or Mundra, which can receive large mother vessels and are located a little over
2,000 km away from Dhaka.
In a significant development, an Indian cargo ship carrying 1,000 tonnes of stone aggregates from
Bhutan arrived in Bangladesh through India via the Brahmaputra river, greatly reducing travel time and
transportation cost. The ship sailed from Dhubri in Assam and travelled to Narayanganj in Bangladesh
over the Brahmaputra river.
Allcargo Logistics, India’s largest integrated, end-to-end logistics solutions provider is turning its
Kolkata container freight station (CFS) into a key driving force to boost exim trade in West Bengal. The
strategic location of West Bengal is a gateway to Eastern India as well as the neighboring countries of
Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. Allcargo’s Kolkata CFS is the perfect launch-pad to expand exim
businesses in these regions, said a release.

Shipping informed Parliament. He added that the Sahibganj MMT is strategically located in the
logistics chain of the Eastern Transport Corridor, and being close to both NH-80 and the Sakrigali

economic and industrial development of the region.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released the World Air Transport Statistics
(WATS) for 2018, an authoritative yearbook on the aviation industry. According to the Top 25 Cargo
Carriers list released by WATS, Emirates has retained its position at number 2, carrying 12,713 freight
tonne kilometers (FTK) (million) in 2018. Qatar Airways moved a position higher to the third spot with
12,695 FTK (million) during the same year. FedEx remained firm in its position as the No. 1 cargo
carrier with 17,499 FTK (million), with a 3.8 percent year-on-year increase. The big movers in the
WATS list were Turkish Airlines and United Airlines that moved three positions each to take spots 12
and 17, respectively.
Nearly five months after closing its airspace, Pakistan has reopened it for all civilian air traffic. The
move comes as a huge relief for Indian airlines, especially national airline Air India that suffered
massive financial loss to the tune of Rs.491 crore as it had to re-route its international flights as
Pakistani airspace was shut.

Air cargo rates distribution platform, IATA Net Rates, to manage their full air cargo rates spectrum.
IATA Net Rates serves airlines and GSAs to help them streamline the distribution of all their cargo
rates. Through it, freight forwarders can access a unique one-stop-shop for all their air cargo rates
needs. IATA Net Rates work closely with key industry groups, for the development of API standards
and the integration of the solution with other IATA standards such as ONE Record and Cargo XML.
Air cargo has slipped into the doldrums this year, with nothing in the economic indicators or market
trends suggesting demand will strengthen in the months ahead. While it may be too early to predict
with any accuracy whether air cargo will enjoy much of a peak season in the fourth quarter of this
year, the outlooks are not promising. For the air cargo business, the gloomy economic situation is
dragging down volume, and forcing some scheduled carriers to keep freighters on the ground. The
trends indicate that the demand for air capacity should grow drastically at the end of summer and
over the fourth quarter.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded its forecast, with global growth now
projected to drop from 3.6 percent in 2018 to 3.2 percent in 2019. IHS Markit China Business Outlook
survey data, says, “The latest business outlook data signals weaker business confidence in China
during June, with activity growth forecasts deteriorating to the lowest in the survey history.”
CH Robinson noted that the ongoing trade war was one of the biggest disruptors to air shipping this
year. The earlier tariff changes in 2018 did not make a huge impact on shipping by air, but demand for
air freight shifted significantly as greater numbers of shippers preemptively repositioned inventory
prior to the 1st June deadline.
Man behind Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission
Recently, India joined as the fourth country in the world to soft-land on the lunar surface, a
feat previously accomplished by only three other countries - the US, Russia, and China.
India’s second lunar journey and its first-ever mission to be spearheaded by two women got
a boost after the ambitious Chandrayaan-2 mission, headed to the moon’s South Pole,
achieved an orbit 6,000 km more than what was targeted.
In a remarkable bounce back a week after the Chandrayaan 2 moon mission was aborted, the
Indian Space Research Organisation launched the rocket and put the Chandrayaan 2 satellite
in a "better than expected orbit" on the afternoon of July 22. In addition, Chandrayaan 2 will
land on the moon as per the originally planned date.
The life travel of K Sivan, ISRO Chief is a matter of pride for all of us. It's very inspiring
to read about this man's humble background. Every one of us can take a leaf from his
story.
A rocket expert who loves gardening
The humble son of a farmer from Sarakkalvilai village in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari district,
Kailasavadivoo Sivan as Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman is currently
leading the Chandrayaan-2 mission to Moon.
Sivan studied at a Tamil medium government school. After graduating from ST Hindu
College in Nagercoil, Sivan completed aeronautical engineering from Madras Institute of
Technology (MIT) in 1980 and completed a Master's in engineering from IISc in 1982. In
2006, he received a PhD in aerospace engineering from IIT Bombay.
Sivan is the first graduate in his family. His brother and two sisters were unable to complete
higher education due to their poverty. "When I was in college, I used to help my father in the
field. That was the reason he got me admitted in a college near our house," Sivan told TOI.
"Only when I had completed my BSc (Mathematics) with 100% marks, his mind changed."
Sivan said he had spent his childhood days without a shoe or sandal. "I continued wearing
veshti (dhoti) till college. I wore pants for the first time when I entered MIT."
Barefoot Sivan
He joined ISRO in 1982 and worked on almost all rocket programmes. Before taking charge
as ISRO chairman in January 2018, he was the director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre
(VSSC), which develops rockets. He is known as ISRO's 'Rocket Man' for his contribution to
the development of cryogenic engine, PSLV, GSLV and reusable launch vehicle (RLV)
programmes. He had also played a key role in the launch of 104 satellites in one go on
February 15, 2017, a world record by ISRO. Though a rocket expert, Sivan loves listening to
Tamil classical songs and doing gardening in his past time. His favourite movie is Rajesh
Khanna-starrer 'Aradhana' of 1969. "When I was VSSC director, I grew a huge variety of roses
in my house garden in Thiruvananthapuram. Now in Bengaluru, I hardly get time," he said.
On July 15, when a glitch in GSLV-MkIII stalled the launch of the Chandrayaan-2 lunar
mission, Sivan quickly set up a high-level team to find the snag and got it fixed within 24
hours. On July 22, he & his team successfully launched the mission from Sriharikota. A few
days ago, PM Narendra Modi, in his 'Mann ki Baat' radio programme, praised ISRO scientists
for fixing the rocket glitch in record time and launching the lunar mission within seven days
of the first scheduled liftoff date.
As on 29th July, Third earth bound orbit raising maneuver for Chandryaan-2 spacecraft has
been performed successfully at 1512 hrs (IST) as planned, using the onboard propulsion
system for a firing duration of 989 seconds. The orbit achieved is 276 x 71792 km.
