Thursday Oct 10, 2019 Captain Jack Hart’s Message
Captain Jack Hart
Commanding Officer
On this 30th Anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake, let us be more prepared today, than we were yesterday, for when the unimaginable strikes! Resilient neighborhoods are those that are prepared, connected, and capable of mobilizing to help ourselves, our neighbors, our blocks, and our communities. Here are a few things to consider in this journey from preparation to awareness to mobilization: 1) To enhance district knowledge, go to sfpdinglesidestation.com and signup for the station newsletter. 2) To enhance incident awareness, register for AlertSF notifications by texting your zip code to 888777. 3) To enhance capacity, gathering supplies and make a plan. Go to: www.sf72.org. 4) To enhance community: a. Go to sfsafe.org and consider joining/starting a neighborhood watch group. b. Go to sf-fire.org and consider becoming a NERT-Trained Volunteer. c. Go to sanfranciscopolice.org/alert and consider becoming an ALERT member. d. Go to empowersf.org and consider hosting a neighborhood block party with the Neighborhood Empowerment Network (NEN). e. Go to your local neighborhood meetings.

Ofc. Albert Tien was born and raised in Methuen, Massachusetts. He traveled extensively as an Infantry Service member of the United States Marine Corps., from Camp Pendleton to Indonesia, Sana’a, Yemen, Bucharest, and Romania. After his service, he moved to San Francisco and entered the Police Academy in 2017. He trained at Mission Station, completed his probationary year at Richmond Station, and now is at his permanent home: Ingleside. He is married and a father of one son (a second child is on the way!).
Currently, Ofc. Tien is assigned to the day shift where he is proactively addressing all of the traffic “hot spot” locations in the District. He can be seen conducting high visibility enforcement and traffic calming on the Mission, Alemany, Cortland, Geneva, Dolores, San Jose, Diamond Heights, Silver, Bayshore, and other high volume corridors, but also on the small streets that are overcrowded and dangerous. If you’ve ever sent an email to us on a traffic issue, Ofc. Tien has been there. If you see him out and about, check your speedometer and seat belt, then wave hello. We are grateful to have him at Ingleside serving our great community!

SF Native Rose Ann Harris was born at San Francisco General Hospital and raised in the Mission District. Rose at-tended St. Anthony’s, Le Conte, the Lytton School, and Mission High School. After living in Visitacion Valley, she moved to the Excelsior in 1989 where she now resides.
Rose is an exemplary community member and volunteer. Rose volunteers for dozens of groups that support neigh-borhood connection and wellness, including the Excelsior District Improvement Association, the Outer Mission Mer-chants and Residents Association, McLaren Park Collaborative, the Excelsior Action Group, the Wildlife Conserva-tion Network, Neighborhood Emergency Response Team, the District 11 Council, and others. Recently, she was hon-ored as the Grand Marshall of Sunday Streets & the New Mission Terrace’s July 4th Celebration, while also being a NEN Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. The late Hon. Mayor Ed Lee proclaimed October 28th, 2014 in her name for the City and County of San Francisco.
Rose’s service mindset knows no bounds. Rose transformed her working life experiences as a waitress at Playland at the Beach, Zims, Mel’s Diner, Ott’s Drive-In, Mr. Brown’s, The Cliff House, and PJ’s Oyster Bed into being a selfless provider of food and service to every event she attends by reminding everyone: “food brings everyone together.” This spirit was on full display at this year’s National Night Out and also behind the scenes as she performs everyday hero-ics for her neighbors by taking them to doctor’s appointments, shopping, and helping with their household tasks.
We are humbled by her generosity of spirit and are inspired by her to serve others regardless of cost or effort. For all of these reasons, Rose is our Featured Community Member of the Month.
