CHURCH NEWS
Lac Marois Union Church really does say "Welcome to
All"! Returning families to summer homes, children and
young people a-plenty, and many visitors filled our
beautiful lakeside house of worship on Sunday, July
10th. Representing several of the Churches in the
Laurentian Area Ministries of the United Church, there
were folk from St. Mungo's Cushing, Know Church,
Grenville, and Shawbridge and Lachute United Churches
who had come to share with us their lead minister, the Rev. Cathy Hamilton. Cathy entranced the
large group of youngsters with a hands-on demonstration of the regenerative power of water, and
then challenged us all to "go for it" as people sent out to share the Good News in acts of kindness
and love. (Jesus, in Luke 10 sends out 72 - in pairs! There were more than that number present
Sunday.)
Much of Sunday's service, including Cathy's sermon, flowed easily between English and French, as
did Jane Wheeler, her Lay Assistant and the choir, ably led as usual by Georgia Copland, with Hedy
Edelstein at the organ and piano. Two brave members from Youth Club led the children merrily off for
a session of learning and play in the club following the children's story.
Many thanks are due Nicole Fauré and all who responded to her invitation to bring contributions to
the beautiful lunch served in the Club following the service. It provided a wonderful opportunity to
catch up with families who have just arrived for the summer.
Next Sunday is another "special", as we will gather on the shore at 5:00 p.m. for a hymn-sing, a
relatively new custom to mark the Sunday after PNO by moving from our usual morning hour.

Dear Membership,
So, for those of you who were at the Church service on Sunday, you heard the service offered bilingually, sometimes changing languages within one sentence. Despite not living in Quebec for the last 15 years, I am going to embrace the Reverend’s approach and just mix it up.
The first two days of the first session went very smoothly. Merci au soleil qui nous a bien accueilli. Les tout-petits on voulu aller dans l’eau and as we know, that is half the battle!
PNO est samedi prochain. S.V.P., S.V.P. contacter Maeve et Michael Lee pour acheter/reserver vos billets. Ça leur aide beaucoup à planifier. The last thing a Hipster needs is to run short on craft beer! For all of our lovely new families, PNO should actually be renamed Adult’s Night Out because it is an annual party hosted by a different family each year to give us an opportunity to hang out together, to have full conversations and where we do not need to dash off in pursuit of a child mid-sentence. Pendent notre soirée, les jeunes passant leur nuit en dormant au Club sous la surveillance du staff. I hope to see as many of you as possible at the Lee house Saturday night!
This weekend is also the Mixed-Doubles tennis tournament. If you have not signed up already, please reach out to Matt Mulcair. Even if you do not have a partner, he will pair you with someone to make it fun. C’est vraiment un tournoi amusant, alors inscrivez-vous per importe voter capacité. To make it even more fun, the final will be on Sunday, post PNO, so it promises to be something to watch!
Don’t forget about the Sunday Hymn sing lakeside at 5pm.
Peace Out , Your Prez

DIRECTOR’S LETTER
Hello everyone!
With beautiful weather and lots of enthusiastic kids and staff, we have had a great start to
the summer! It’s been great to see so many people on the beach everyday. With action packed days,
I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been sleeping very well!
This summer, we are adding time trials to swim team. Kids participating in swim team can
ask a staff member (at any point in the day) to time their different strokes. They are encouraged to
do this several times throughout the summer to see how they are progressing!
A reminder that the PNO sleepover is on Saturday! Please remember to sign up your kids on the
poster outside the clubhouse. If your child has any medical conditions or allergies that we should be
aware of, please let us know.
Looking forward to another great week of lessons!
Day at the Lake by Marianne Homsy

THE FOUR CORNERS
Hello fellow canoers! The past week has been amazing and
I have a feeling that the next few weeks will be too! As kids
start canoeing for the fi rst time, we go over the basics, such as
holding the paddle, sitting in the canoe, and stroking properly.
It has been pretty windy, but the challenge will only make
the kids better. Over the next two weeks, we will continue
to practice their canoeing skills as well as learn some basic
survival and camping skills in order to be more prepared for
the trips. The canoeing A trip (13-14 year olds) will be August
6th to 8th at Tremblant. The canoeing B trip (11-12 year olds)
will be August 16th to 17th in Papineau-Labelle.
Keep up the hard work!
Hi all!
The Parent-Child Tennis Tournament was held this weekend
and although there was on and off rain throughout the day, the
tournament was a huge success. I would like to congratulate the
winners of the event as well as the fi nalists in each division. In the
11 and under division, Sean and Harry Mulcair won the champion-
ship against Guy and Liam Faure in a come from behind victory.
In the 14 and under division, Caroline and Danny Miller took down
Graham and Brennan Campbell in a heavyweight battle. Thanks
to all the participants for participating and to Matt Mulcair and
Julia Vrentas for the help in organization.
Next weekend is the Mixed Doubles Tournament so don’t forget to
let Matt know if you are interested in playing.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the courts this week,
Tom
Hi everyone! I’m Sid, and I’m this summer’s Head of Sailing!
This summer, I will be trying to incorporate a little bit more
theory into the lessons because I feel that it is extremely
important to have a good understanding of the wind and the
boats before heading out on the water. Make sure you come
prepared to the lessons with a life jacket, sunscreen, and a
hat!
I’m really looking forward to a great two sessions on the
water!!

Hey LMCC!
I could not have asked for a more amazing fi rst week!
Swimming lessons are going super well and the weather
has been absolutely beautiful! Please remember to
apply sunscreen before going in the water. Just a
quick reminder that mid-season progress reports will
be handed out on Monday, July 11th. If you have any
questions, please feel free to speak to me. I hope
everyone has a great rest of the week!
Keep up the good work, swimmers!

Hi guys!
I could not have asked for a better way to start off an amazing summer – the weather was
beautiful and the activities this week were really big hits! Everyone in Junior Club had a great time
making their own Play Dough and decorating their containers. In addition, the kids in Arts and Drama
put together some “top secret” fun for the session. I cannot wait to see all the smiles that are in-store as
the session progresses! If you have any questions, please feel free to come speak to me! See you at the

Calling all photographers!!!
This week’s wonderful photo and story are brought to you by Peggy Hartwick.
Ed & Margie Knight just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June (June 23, 1956).
They were the first couple to be married at the LMUC! This photo features the new couple
leaving the church. Don’t they look wonderful?!
For those with sharp eyes: 1956 pre-dates the stained glass window that now faces the
Clubhouse. Does anyone know what year the window was installed or the story behind it?
You can have your own stories and photos featured in the Informer! Just be sure to send in your
photos to be added to the photo albums, updated weekly, to [email protected].
