Dear KR Catholic Parishioners,

In today’s lesson Jesus heals the blind beggar Bartimaeus. Jesus has mercy on Bartimaeus,
as he requests, and he suddenly can see. Jesus says that his faith has saved him. There is
something greater happening in Jesus’ healing miracles that is demonstrated here and in
other miracles as well. What would that be?

It is clear to me that Jesus’s care and healing of people possesses a deeper concern. He is
always seeking to go beyond the physical aspect of healing and bring their faith and the condition of their
soul into the equation. Jesus uses the condition of their in(irmity to show them the power of faith in God
to heal them.

There have been times in my ministry that I have witnessed miracles. I wish I could say that each one of
those who received the miracles had a conversion of heart as Bartimaeus and others do in Scripture.
However, that is not the case. Many times there is momentary gratitude but before you know it the grace
of that blessing has been squandered away. I believe that this is why Jesus invited people to participate in
their healing and then emphasized how their faith played aa major part in it.

We frequently hear the phrase in today’s medical culture of “healing the whole person”. Turns out that is
an old concept that Jesus fervently practiced and proclaimed. Often times we pray for Jesus’s healing in
our own lives or those of whom we dearly love. Don’t forget to include in your prayer not just the
condition of the loved one’s physical health but also the condition of their faith and their soul. When our
faith is strong and our soul is healthy then we can handle anything because we have the strength and
vision of the Creator of the Universe to carry and guide us.
God bless, Fr. Russ

December 11th: “Signs of the Season,” During the secular Christmas season, we are
bombarded with messages on TV, on the Internet, in stores, in magazines and other sources that blare out the commercialism
of the holidays. What a perfect time to escape from the cacophony, go on retreat and look to scripture, prayer, and
reflection to discover the true meaning of Christmas—the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. This retreat explores the secular
and religious symbols of Christmas to reveal many surprising and challenging messages. Music, video, and meditation are
just a few ways to start the discussion. 11:00am -6:00pm at St. Robert Bellarmine. Mass and lunch provided. Sign Up at:
