LEARNING KEYBOARDING

1. Keyboarding is the foundation of everything you will learn in ICT2. Good Keyboarding Techniques are crucial when learning to

keyboard3. You will learn 2 new keys a day4. Remember when learning the keyboard:

1. No regard to formatting (don’t worry about errors)2. Focus on accuracy (correctness) when all keys are learned3. Emphasis toward speed while using correct finger placement

5. Learn the applications for which the keyboard is used; for example: letter writing and spacing twice after periods at the end of sentences, spacing once after commas, etc.

6. Keyboarding is like learning to play a sport or a musical instrument; it takes practice to be successful at this skill

Gross words a minute (GWAM) Total words divided by total minutes keyed

Net words a minute (NWAM) Subtract number of errors from total number of

words and divide by minutes keyed
