Brandon has been a resident of Oak-Leyden since 1999. He started out in a 24hour family-style community integrated living arrangement (CILA) and with thehelp of dedicated staff was able to move to his very own apartment in 2007. Brandon states that all of the decisions and choices were always his and thatwhat he appreciates the most is being in the same building his niece lives in. Heenjoys having his own space, living close to family, and being as independent aspossible. Brandon also loves his job as a custodial assistant at Elmwood ParkHigh School.  He chose to reside in his Oak Park neighborhood because it wasthe most affordable location and close to a variety of restaurants.

Scott has been a resident of Oak-Leyden's for over 20 years. Like Brandon, Scottbegan in a 24 hour CILA. With the help of specialized training in the areasof cooking, cleaning, laundry, self-administration of medications, moneymanagement, assertiveness, and safety. Scott was able to move into his ownapartment, where he now lives with his wife of over 15 years. The couple enjoytaking neighborhood walks in the summer, attending a local church, and visitingarea restaurants. Scott is only a few blocks from his job at Lake Theatre ClassicCinemas, where he has worked for over 12 years. He enjoys a high quality of lifethrough the support of our Intermittent CILA program.

Prince has resided with Oak-Leyden since 1984. Like Scott and Brandon, Princewas interested in becoming more independent.  Dedicated Oak-Leyden staff took thetime to show Prince available apartments that he might like to live in. Prince wasable to choose to live with his sister under a family ICILA model. Oak-Leydenprovides Prince with 15 hours of support a week, assisting him with doctor'sappointments, getting groceries and supplies, filling his prescriptions, and doingother activities of Prince’s choice. Prince absolutely loves his apartment and enjoysattending our Oak Park Lifelong Learning Center a few days a week for socialization. He appreciates that the Center is within walking distance of his home.
