WHAT IS CEMS ?

CEMS MASTER IN INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

CEMS AT SGH

CEMS is a strategic alliance of leading business schools and multinational companies. Its first mission is to set a global standard of excellence for pre-experience Master’s in management. Founded in 1988 in Europe, the network has grown steadily, largely due to the success and popularity of the CEMS Master’s in International Management: the MIM Programme. Today, CEMS is the global league of leaders on the pre-experience Master’s market and it cannot be equalled in terms of reputation of its members: 29 world-class academic institutions collaborate together with over 60 corporate and 4 social partners to offer international, postgraduate students a unique blend of high quality education and professional experience.

The major initiative developed within CEMS network is the CEMS MIM (M.Sc. in International Management), a prestigious supranational business degree that can be acknowledged as the best passport for an international career. This one-year joint degree programme is exclusively open to the Master’s students of the CEMS schools who meet very strict selection criteria, and receive the CEMS degree in conjunction with their home degree. In 2009 CEMS MIM was ranked #1 pre-experienced M.Sc . Programme in Management in the World! In 2013 Ranking CEMS MIM is still in TOP 10, leading in several important categories. CEMS also fosters faculty cooperation for joint teaching, research and doctoral education.

SGH has joined CEMS in 1996 as a candidate member and started to send SGH student within CEMS Master Programme already in Spring Semester 1996. Following the implementation of CEMS curriculum and governance, SGH has been admitted to CEMS as full member in 1998 during the Annual Meeting in Vienna. Since then, SGH is recruiting regularly from 35 to over 50 students and is hosting currently 10+ students per year. We would love to host more incoming students at SGH and that is why we are open to accept students beyond existing slots and those who wish to pursue their Multi Country Track. The number of alumni (as of January 2013) has reached quite significant number of 415 graduates (5% of overall CEMS population) who are active around the World.

“STUDY HARD – PLAY HARD”

This is a motto that is the essence of our idea of delivering CEMS MIM Programme at SGH. We believe that studies in International management should be a combination of challenging and practice- oriented courses, seminars and projects combined with well integrated leisure time activities that expose MIM students to local (and regional) cultures, tradition and everyday life. Interaction in highly diversified group of students (recruited globally) in dynamically developing and vibrant city of Warsaw means only one – satisfaction guaranteed! “STUDY HARD” means that CEMS MIM courses we offer are carefully selected in terms of quality of contents and teaching. It means that they are international, interactive, practice-oriented (even if they are based on extensive theoretical foundation) and challenging to develop your personal and intellectual competencies. We are very open to strong cooperation between faculty members and company representatives. As the result we offer, or currently develop four courses that are designed and co-delivered by practitioners representing such corporations as: McKinsey and Company, Procter & Gamble, l’Oreal, Deloitte, DB Schenker or A.T. Kearney. The highest academic standard means that class size is moderate (up to 35 or 40 students), the workload is adequate to distinguish CEMS MIM courses among our regular offer, and each course is subject to regular quality assessment that provides lecturers with feedback on how their classes are perceived by students. We realise, that despite all efforts, it is impossible to satisfy everybody, especially demanding students interested in a variety of topics. That is why, we have prepared to you a relatively wide selection of diversified (in terms of topics) courses: functional ones, for those who take at SGH courses they are required at home university, specific ones, to those more interested in the process of systemic transition or economies and business of Central and Eastern Europe, and finally “hot-topic” courses that tackle recent developments in theory and practice. All of them, are enriched in company-delivered courses, that focus on development of various managerial skills. Similar approach is taken when selecting Business Projects and skill seminars, which by definition are very much practical in contents and develop your practical skills or just let you apply them in real-life business situation.

“PLAY HARD”

In Poland, people quite often refer to study times as the best period in their life. For sure there are several reasons for that, and definitely not all of them are referred to hours spent in class. Any activity we perform should be a fun (ideally) and our PLAY HARD motto wants to emphasise that studying at SGH is a perfect match of learning and fun. Our extracurricular offer starts from the assistance of your buddies who are not only assigned to you to assist you in the first weeks of your stay in Warsaw, but also are a source of information on what to do at SGH after classes. From that perspective both SGH and Warsaw offer almost unlimited opportunities:

• Participation in activities of student organisations, scientific associations and sports clubs.

• Exploration of numerous Warsaw’s clubs, cafe’s and discos. • Organised trips around Poland and to neighbourhood countries • International days, etc.

Such a variety of activities is a specificity of SGH resulting from the high level of SGH students involvement in organised life and cooperation of CEMS Student Club Warsaw, Erasmus Student Network at SGH and other students organisations (student union, AIESEC, student associations, etc.) who are passionate in keeping you busy in a way that brings to you a lot of fun! It would be silly not to explore that, so if you have doubts or if you are demanding person, definitely you should take SGH high if not on the top of your preferences to spend your MIM term abroad.
