Spring Newsletter 2013
MD‘s Message
2013 has already presented us with more than the usual
assortment of challenges.
The directors have worked closely with Stephen and Martin
to ensure that a smooth leadership transition for the rebranded Imtech Smith took place, allowing them both to leave the business at the end of March. I am sure that you, like me, wish them success and happiness for the future.
The move towards the new UK structure we spoke about earlier in the year sees us continue to facilitate the transfer of our FM team over to Inviron and to welcome the Imtech Inviron North Engineering Services offices under our management.
You may also have been aware that Imtech have been in the spotlight a little more than usual because of events in Poland and Germany – if you want to know the latest update on these issues please go to the Imtech NV website . On the whole, in the UK, we have managed the situation proactively and although there may be some cost savings to come in 2013, there is nothing of any major significance so it‘s business as usual.
Thanks to all of your efforts and, despite a very difficult marketplace, we have had great success in delivering our current projects and securing a good forward order book. There is a slight lull in our work whilst we wait for new projects to kick into action on site and we still have a small way to go to ensure that we secure our full years‘ turnover, but we have targeted projects that we are very close to that should help us achieve our goal.
It really is great to be part of a business that regularly gains accolade and praise from clients for our approach to Health & Safety and ―can do‖ attitude of our staff.
From the pictures in this edition of the newsletter, it is clear to see the enjoyment and pride felt by those getting together for social occasions and to support our nominated charities and I hope that this will continue with the events planned over the summer.
Thank you for your continued support.

The project is situated in the affectionately known area as
the "Square Mile" in the heart of the city of London's finan-
cial area, adjacent to the bank of England.
The works consist of the retention of the building existing
façade with a total new build internally consisting of two
basement levels with nine above ground floors.
The contract has a very high specification demand in
terms of quality and finishes incumbent with the location.
Major New Contracts
Prefabricated Case Study
As with most city centre projects nowadays, access in and out of the project is restricted by
adjacent buildings and roads to two elevations which provides for interesting logistics in
terms of deliveries with the added issues of storage being at a premium.
The works being carried cover a range of M&E services from main switchgear, generator
support, Chillers, Mechanical ventilation, specialist security installations, Access control,
CCTV and full sprinkler protection.
Plant areas are situated at roof level as well as the main equipment located within the
basement which is assigned in full to providing space to accommodate the heating
equipment, electrical distribution, tanks, generator and associated piped and distributed
services.
Major New Contracts
Prefabricated Case Study
The scope of installation is to a Cat A level with flexibility built in for future tenancy
occupation to sub divide office space in future.
The use of horizontal and vertical modular service distribution has been selected and
employed throughout the scheme which provides for a much tighter co-ordinated installation,
reducing space for installed services, less waste generated on site, reducing the requirement
to work at height and significantly reduce the installation time at site level.
The project is due for completion mid-November 2013.
Thanks goes to the team which consists of Chris Riley, Martin Loughlin and Mike Young as
the Contract Management team on site with the presence of Chris Bright and Lee Owen as
site supervision.
Here‘s a quick run down on the progress of our current projects:
Site Update
ESLA
Phase 1 handed over 18th March 2013.
Phase 2 currently underway with expected
completion August 2013.
Job has been completed to a high standard
and is a credit to Wayne Gregson, Adam
Martin, Mark Bell and Ross Blundell.
Kensington
The project involves 153 no high end exclusive
apartments, ranging from £850k for a Bedsit to
£14.4m for the Big Pent house.
The show apartment is now open to the public.
Site Update
Merepark—Liverpool
The Lewis‘s Building is a 9 storey
building located in the heart of Liverpool
and forms an integral part of Liverpool‘s
rich retailing history.
Part of this building is now open as a
126 bed Apart Hotel over 4 levels. There
is 80,000 Sq. ft. of office space and
160,00 Sq. ft. of retail area that Imtech
Smith have been responsible for the
design, installation and commissioning
of electrical and mechanical services.
The first Adagio Apart hotel in the
country was opened to the public on
March 28 2013.
Thanks goes to the project team for their
efforts in successfully completing the
project and handing over with zero
defects in conjunction with Mere Park
Construction.
Site Update
The new 7,946 sq ft, state of the art, purpose built academy took two years to build and
includes the best facilities in the city for design technology and engineering.
The new ST Alban‘s Academy has exceptional specialist accommodation for science,
art, music, ICT and physical education. As an inclusive Church of England school the academy
also hosts a new prayer room equipped for multi-faith worship with washing facilities suitable for
Muslim prayer.
Sports facilities include a four badminton court size sports hall and fitness suite and this month
work will begin on the construction of an all-weather floodlit sports pitch.
The building which has a solid fuel heating system using recycled wood chips complies with all
BREEAM assessment ratings for environmental performance.
Initiated within the Birmingham BSF programme, and complicated by its eventual cancellation,
the challenging budget led to an economic, yet inspiring design.
St Albans
St Alban's Academy opened
its £17.6 million state of the
art school building on
18th January 2013
Site Update
Inside, the academy is broken down into two
small schools, St Patrick‘s and St Peter‘s, each
with their own head teachers. This ensures that
all students are well known by teaching staff
and reflects our commitment to human scale
education.
The spacious, dramatic, central atrium,
technically an outdoor space, is unheated but
under cover, and has allowed us to maximise
the internal space, with large classrooms in
prime locations that have views out across the
city and into the atrium.
The new building allows St Albans to expand its
current roll from 440 students aged 11-16 to
800 students aged 11-18.
Thanks goes to the Project Management Team
Karl Voss and Warren Pearson and to the site
team for their hard work and commitment

Our own Sam Cole in Procurement cycled Arc to Arc, London to Paris in 3 days at the end of
March which worked out at just over 100 miles a day. There were 9 of them altogether who
took part and they raised money for Derian House, who look give care to parents and their
families before and after the death of a child. So far they have raised over £1,600 but there is
still time to donate through Sam‘s dad‘s just giving page.

And if that wasn‘t challenging enough they have decided to sign up for the coast to coast
challenge. An iconic route cycled by hundreds of people every year, usually over 4 or 5 days,
but these guys are doing it in just 1 day. A stunning 150 mile road ride with 4500 metres of
ascent from Seascale in the mountainous Western Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales,
across the flat Vale of York and finally the Northern Valleys of the North York Moors, finishing
by the sea in Whitby. More details on this event will follow in the next edition.

In association with Keepmoat we are helping raise funds with
donations of items for raffles that they are holding for a very
special boy. Sam, (then aged 3) had been diagnosed with
Neuroblastoma, a particularly severe form of cancer which has a
low survival rate.
Sam has bravely undergone a course of Chemo-therapy and
has just, on his 4th birthday, commenced a second course.
Subsequently he will need stem cell replacement. Even if the
stem cell treatment is successful, there is still a high probability
that the cancer will return. His best chance of preventing this is
a treatment that is only available in Philadelphia, but it comes at
a substantial cost of £250,000 and that is without the cost of
transport and accommodation for the family for what could be up
to 6 months Should you wish to make a donation, we have
created a Just Giving web-page for the mountain climb which
will feed into the main fund for Sam's treatment.

Peter Baines granddaughter has recently been
diagnosed with Bilateral Retino Blastoma (eye
cancer) which effects 1 in 20,000 children. She has
lost sight in her right eye and it was found that she
had two tumors in her left eye. Sophie started a
course of chemotherapy, she is now two thirds of the
way through her treatment and the treatment appears
to be having a positive impact in her left eye.
Various fundraising events have been scheduled to raise money for Sophie and the guys at
Lewis's donated £100 of their winnings from their Health & Safety Team of the Month award
for January to the Sophie Baines fund. Thank you it‘s greatly appreciated.
