We are also pleased that Jackson students are demonstrating our values of learning, independence, safety, respect and responsibility. Last week year 7/8B were off site travel training. The class caught a train to Watergardens and then moved around the shopping centre. Jackson staff were stopped by a woman, who, praised our students for their excellent behaviour. We work hard to develop our students to independently travel train and to behave appropriately in public. Thank you Sarah and Liz for supporting your students in 7/8B to represent Jackson School successfully. A SCHOOL LUNCH PROBLEM All students are expected to bring their lunch to school daily. The lunch that they bring needs to be able to be eaten as it is. Staff are not able to leave the classroom to heat or toast a student’s lunch. The school has a few emergency frozen cheese sandwiches that can be heated if a student has forgotten to bring their lunch. Staff have shared that we have many students telling their families they do not need to bring lunch. The students then tell their teacher they are hungry. Would you please support us by assisting your child to bring lunch to school every day. We are not able to toast their sandwiches or cook noodles. Thank you for your support. FUN AT THE FAMILY FUN NIGHT On the 31 st May our school had a Family Games Night. Over 90 people came and joined in the fun of the night. Families and staff shared tables together in teams and played games to earn point. There was a Kiddies Corner for the younger children to play. Our Engagement and Wellbeing Team sold roast beef and gravy rolls for dinner which were very popular. Thank you to the Engagement team for organising the evening. This night was so successful it will be on our calendar in 2020 next year. SCHOOL FETE All classes were involved in volunteering at a stall today at our school fete. We were thrilled to see the enthusiasm and energy of the whole school community. Thank you to the families and carers who attended and the staff and students for their efforts. It was a wonderful day. Foundation Primary. On Thursday 30th May, Lower Primary hosted a morning tea for staff and parents. Everyone enjoyed lots of lovely cakes and special treats. All money raised was for The Cancer Council of Victoria. Amount raised was $180.00. Congratulations to everyone who helped organise the event.

Lower Primary. This term, 1/2 B have been learning about clouds and rain. We have gone for walks in the rain with our umbrellas, jumped in soapy puddles with gumboots and even made rain clouds with shaving cream, water and food colouring. After our adventures and experiments we write a story in our class book.

Upper Primary. We read the book “Jack and the Beanstalk”. We planted some beans into cups and predicted how long it will take our beans to reach the giants castle. 5/6 B

Lower Secondary. In Year 7/8 we have been busy preparing for our Winter Fete. Every class has made a decision about their contribution to the fete, and there will be stalls such as Lucky Dips, Tin Can Throwing, Slime and Orbeez balls to cater for sensory needs. Still there are heaps of jobs to do like creating products, making a roster, setting up the stalls, how to record the profits and most importantly advertising to sell our services or products. The year 7/8’s are looking forward to the fete and to have a successful business.

Applied Learning. Senior Secondary students are in their final years of school and will shortly be leaving Jackson to take on new challenges and pathways. Along with such significant change comes great stress. It is a time of information overload and weighty decisions. Each year, during second term, Senior Secondary E & F plan excursions to a variety of settings which provide relevant programs for our students. Parents and carers are welcome to attend. It is a great opportunity for our students and families to explore their options and gain an understanding of what may be in store in the next year or two. Students meet staff and other clients, view classes, facilities and examine program options. They are able to see what each program offers to help make the right decision for them. Students can be greatly reassured when they meet up with class-mates and friends from previous years, happy in their new settings.

Programs: Yooralla, St John Of God, Mambourin, YMCA, Scope, Distinctive Options, Inclusion Melbourne, Western Futures (Victoria Polytechnic)

If your child is absent on any school day, it is a DET requirement for you to explain your child’s absence. Xuno sends a text message to our families when your child is marked as an unexplained absence or arrives late to school or departs school early. If your child is going to be absent, please either call through to our student absence phone line on 03 9366 4322, selecting option one and leave a message with your child’s details or log into Xuno and approve your child’s absence or you can now reply to the SMS you receive from Xuno and provide a reason why your child is absent.

Jackson School Student’s Art. Continuing on from 2017, Jackson School is being represented once again by the artwork of four of our Secondary students at the biennial Footscray Art Prize: Young Artists exhibition. The students whose work will be exhibited are Pepe Muavaa, Richard Le, Ethan Noyce and Jayden Doan. The 2019 Footscray Arts Prize: Young Artists exhibition will take place between the dates of the 20th June – 20th July 2019. The opening night for the exhibition will be on Thursday 20th June at Victoria University MetroWest, 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray at 5pm. The winners of the Young Artists prize will be announced between 5pm and 5.30pm. This is an exciting opportunity for these students to have their artwork exposed to the wider community. They also could potentially win a cash prize of $500 if they are chosen as the winner for the Secondary section of the Young Artists Prize. Congratulations and good luck to our exhibiting students!
