16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Entrance Chant: Gather Us In

Penitential Rite I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; Therefore I ask Blessed Mary, ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Gloria Refrain

Psalm Response

1. O Lord, you are good and forgiving, full of mercy to all who call to you. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer, and attend to my voice in supplication.

2. All the nations you have made shall come; they will bow down before you, O Lord, and glorify your name, for you are great and do marvelous deeds, you who alone are God.

3. But you, O God are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, O Lord, abundant in mercy and fidelity; turn and take pity on me. O give your strength to your servant.

Gospel Acclamation

Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made; For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prep. of the Gifts: For God So Loved the World

Page 3

Sanctus (Holy, Holy) Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts. Heav’n and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest! Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna...

Mystery of Faith

Amen

Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: Have mercy on us, have mercy on us. (repeat) / Grant us peace. Grant us peace.

Practicing Catholics (those at Mass each week and regular at confession) are invited to receive the Sacrament. Non practicing Catholics should go to confession before receiving Holy Communion. Non Catholics are welcome to come for a blessing (cross your arms over your chest).

Communion Chant: Take and Eat

We Give You Thanks 1. For the bread and wine we share here, for the friends that we embrace, for the peace we find in healing, for all who gather in this place, for the faith of those around us, for the dead and all those here, for the hope we find in mem’ry, for the love that draws us near:

Page 4

2. For the movement deep within us, for the stories that we bring, for the signs of God’s compassion, for the journey that we sing, for the Word that holds our promise, for the gifts that we can claim, for the wonders that surround us, for the songs that sing our name: Refrain

3. For the water bringing new life, for the fragrance of release, for the fire that blazes forward, for the call to bring forth peace, for the blindness now enlightened, for the bound that are now free, for the brightness of your new day, for the kingdom we will be: Refrain

Text and Tune: David Haas, b. 1957 Copyright 1998, GIA Publications, Inc.

Song of Praise: O God, You Search Me 1. O God, you search me and you know me. All my thoughts lie open to your gaze. When I walk or lie down you are before me: Ever them maker and keeper of my days.

2. You know my resting and my rising. You discern my purpose from afar, and with love everlasting you besiege me: In every moment of life or death, you are.

3. Before a word is on my tongue. Lord, you have known its meaning through and through. You are with me beyond my understanding: God of my present, my past and future, too.

4. Although your Spirit is upon me, still I search for shelter from your light. There is nowhere on earth I can escape you: Even the darkness is radiant in your sight.

Sending Forth: Holy, Holy, Holy

Pastor’s Page Page 7 Reading the Face of God XXIV Discernment Again God allows desolations to strengthen us and to put us in touch with our strength. A lack of self-knowledge can leave us vulnerable to the attack of the devil, who wants to separate us from God. While God may use the desolation to help us know ourselves, the devil’s tactic is to discourage and defeat us and to turn us aside from a godly path. Now the tactics of the devil, like any good military commander include studying the situation of our lifes and probing us to discover any weakness, then he attacks at the weakest point. He does not attack at our point of strength, but studying our character he searches for our Achilles’ heel. If we are quiet and timid, he might seek to make us into cowards. If we are vane, he will flatter us; if sentimental, he will encourage an emotional piety full of froth. Thus we need to know ourselves and our weaknesses in order to know where he will attack, and how to defend ourselves. Our enemy is a deceitful bully who works in secrecy and the dark. We are not however his true prey; his adversary is Jesus to whom we belong. When we cling to Jesus, even his wily deceits will become means for our sanctification and strengthening. The devil may mean it for our destruction, but God always means whatever testing we undergo for our good. Our faith makes it possible for us to live through the times of desolation knowing that Jesus will use them for his own good purposes.

IHM Pray for us Father Jerry

Stewardship Corner “Those who are just must be kind,” says today’s first

Reading. If our words and deeds are kind and selfless, we will be like the good seed in the Gospel parable and gathered as wheat in the Lord’s harvest.

Respect Human Life. True “compassion” brings one to share the suffering of the other, not to eliminate the one whose suffering he cannot tolerate. The Gospel of Life, 66.
