Dear families of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, “I am going fishing.” What an announcement! If asked who made it, and not told it was a Bible quote, we might guess “Grandpa” or “Uncle Fred,” or admit, “I said that last summer!” But it is a Bible quote, from today’s Gospel. The person who said it also once declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Yes, it’s Peter! So today’s announcement seems quite the comedown. Last Sunday Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” But Peter seems determined to return to his pre-apostolic occupation, until Jesus intervenes, making Peter’s later announcement deeper, “Lord, you know that I love you,” and Peter’s apostolic calling clearer, “Tend my sheep.” Peter does so. Acts presents the consequences: Peter declares, “We must obey God rather than men.” As Revelation proclaims, “Worthy is the Lamb”—to receive Peter’s lifelong service, and ours. Yesterday we had the First Holy Communions for the children in the English Faith Formation classes. As we told you last week, there were 150 who received the Sacrament. We now, as parents and as a parish, are responsible to continue to educate these young children to know and love the Lord. On next Saturday, May 11, the Catholic Daughters will be having their 2nd Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show. This year’s theme will be Mother’s Day! Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us. Father Quang

Queridas familias del Inmaculado Corazón de María, “Voy a pescar”. ¡Qué anuncio! Si preguntó quién lo dijo, pero no digo que es una frase que está en la Biblia, podríamos decir: “el abuelo o el tío Alfredo”, o admitir “¡lo dije yo el verano pasado!” Pero es una frase tomada de la Biblia, del Evangelio de hoy. La persona que lo dijo una vez afirmó “tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios vivo”. Así es, ¡fue Pedro! Así que la frase aparece al final. El domingo pasado Jesús dijo: “Así como el Padre me ha enviado, así los envío yo”. Pero Pedro parece determinado a regresar al oficio que tenía antes de ser apóstol, hasta que Jesús interviene, haciendo que Pedro diga ahora lo siguiente: “Señor, tú sabes que te quiero” y la llamada apostólica aparece más clara, “apacienta a mis ovejas”. Así lo hace Pedro. Los Hechos presentan las consecuencias: Pedro declara: “Debemos obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres”. Como el Apocalipsis dice: “Digno es el cordero”, para recibir el servicio de toda la vida de Pedro y las nuestras. For the Adoration during Fridays, from 7PM to 8PM, we encourage parents with little children to join us at the Chapel. We have found, from experience and the positive response we got from the recent 24 Hours of Adoration last March, that our parents with their little children will benefit a lot from having a dedicated time for them to be with the Blessed Sacrament at this particular time. We therefore encourage those who desire to have ample and dedicated quiet time at the Adoration Chapel to plan accordingly, and thus encourage diversity in prayer formats to be made available by and by, and as needed, to have music like Gregorian and Taize chants. We will also try to schedule specific hours for the recitation of the Holy Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet and other prayers to promote devotions and fuller participation during our regular Adoration on Fridays through Saturday before the 8AM Mass. These updates in liturgy are ultimately geared towards greater appreciation of the beauty and reverence of how we serve and worship at our most beloved church.

Además, para la Adoración durante los viernes de 7PM a 8PM, animamos a los padres con niños pequeños a unirse a nosotros en la capilla. Hemos encontrado por experiencia y por las respuestas positivas que nos dieron durante las últimas 24 horas de Adoración en marzo pasado, que nuestros padres con niños pequeños se beneficiarían mucho de tener un tiempo dedicado para ellos de estar con el Santísimo Sacramento en este momento en particular.
