IGEL Fall Newsletter 2011IGEL Fall Newsletter 2011Dear Friends of IGEL,

The new academic year is in full swing and IGEL has been hard at work since our last update! OurKnowledge@Wharton report CanVenture Capital Really Influence Environmental Sustainability reportwaspublished after our successful panel at the Wharton Global Alumni Forum, thanks to the generous support ofBank of America. We hosted, along with MBA Career Management and Wharton Program for Social Impact(WPSI), a Careers in Sustainabilityevent, with more than 100 students and several of our corporate adviso-ry board members in attendance. The field of sustainability metrics for busi-ness also got a push forward Sustainable Life Medias October 24th conference,, which was held at Wharton. Our student volunteers have been blogging andconducting video interviews for these events (see excerpts from the blog be-low). The extremely successful October 28th student-run Wharton Energy Con-ference was co-sponsored by IGEL, and is another feather in our cap. We alsokicked off a new WPSI/IGEL speaker series October 13th by inviting Roland

Van De Meer, Chairman at Bio-Logical Capital, to speak on campus about inte-gratingbusiness and conservation.

The spring is just as full with exciting new events and teaching opportunities. We are aiming to take sustainability leadership to a new level with the start of

the SAP/IGEL Executive Education Certificate Program on Business Sustaina-bility Leadership in June 2012 at Wharton San Francisco. Here at Penn, IGELhas been supporting an ongoing interdisciplinary case competition with theU.S. Department of Energy on public electric vehicle charging, as well as a newclean tech competition run by Penn International Sustainability Association(PISA). We have six speakers coming to campus over the next few months forthe IES/IGEL Seminar Series, including Craig Isakow of Johnson Controls(11/16), Jeff Bladen of the Mark Group (11/30) and Erin Meezen of Interface(12/7).We are also conducting research for a report on forest certification andeco-labels in anticipation of our next Environmental Leadership Speaker Se-ries with the Wharton Global Alumni Forum in Jakarta in June 2012. Also onour website under Research, you can find a new series of one pagers on specific

    sustainability topics.

Thank you for all of your support as we work to make Wharton and Penn theacademic driver for solving the most pressing environmental issues. Pleasecheck out our website, blog and social media, and dont hesitate to get in touchif youd like to be involved!

    Sincerely,
